Another 16 Million Can Get Home Depot Discount

| January 7, 2022

The Home Depot has just expanded its program for veteran discounts.

Another 16 million veterans can get Home Depot’s new military discount year-round

If you’re seeking the 10 percent military discount at The Home Depot, be prepared for a new policy.

The national home improvement retailer has expanded its year-round discount to all veterans — potentially 16 million more veterans plus spouses — and the company has also tightened up its verification process for that discount.

Here’s how it works.

  • The military discount program is now open year-round to all veterans with other-than-dishonorable discharges. Previously, only currently serving members, retirees, service-connected disabled veterans and their dependents with ID cards could use it year-round. Other veterans could only use it around certain holidays.
  • The discount can now be used for Home Depot online purchases; previously it was limited to in-store purchases.
  • There are stricter verification requirements. Rather than showing your ID card at checkout, or some proof of other veteran status each time, you now must be verified through SheerID. That’s a one-time process, where you’ll create an account that will allow the discount to be automatically applied when shopping online, and a QR code to be scanned in-store at checkout. This will make it easier to verify veterans, who don’t always have an ID card. It’s not a charge card.
  • Spouses of these currently serving and veteran service members are eligible too, but the spouse and veteran must have separate personal accounts in order to each use the discount.
  • Eligible participants each have a maximum $400 discount that can be applied each year to eligible purchases of up to $4,000, according to the Home Depot website. The discount resets each calendar year. Home Depot officials confirmed to Military Times that these rules mean that a couple would have in effect up to $800 a year discount on $8,000 in purchases.
  • To get the discount, those eligible must create an account and verify their eligibility through Sheer ID, in a simple process that takes about five minutes. Once you’re verified, to use the discount online, you’ll log in to your Home Depot account on HomeDepot.com, and the military discount will be automatically applied to eligible items during checkout.

“The military discount program is now open year-round to all veterans with other-than-dishonorable discharges.”  This should be good news for posers in that they don’t have to lie to get that discount.  Your money’s good at Home Depot even if you were a deserter.

Seriously, it is good business for the Home Depot to do this and oddly enough may cut down on embellishment.

Efforts such as ID.me and Sheer ID are great for discounts if you have served in the military or are still serving.  I love Yeti products so the ID.me discounts save me some money.

Lowe’s program doesn’t have a cap, but I end up going to HD more since it’s closer.

Registering was painless. Thanks, Steve! I’ll be getting my $400 savings every year. 😀

SFC D

I loved Lowes program when I worked there. On Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Independence Day, we could take the employee discount (10%) and military discount (10%) concurrently.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Just did the sign up process on Home Depot’s website…thank you for posting.

ninja

We wish more Companies would offer and advertise discounts to First Responders…

Appreciate you sharing this info with us, Steve. We just feel sometimes there is too much emphasis placed publicly on receiving a discount because of a “Military Veteran” status.

First Responders are Warriors as well.

Just Our Two Pennies

Only Army Mom

ninja, all due respect but No, First Responders should not be given the same discount as AD Military or Veterans…not because they are not also warriors, but because they are not Military or Veterans.

Service to the country that requires years of service where-and-when-ever, months or years at a time away from hearth and home deserves unique recognition.

First Responders go home after every shift. (Granted, some smoke jumpers and other highly specialized, rare and small groups don’t). First Responders are at little risk of being sent somewhere for months or years, regardless of personal plans or family desires. First Responders can quit at any time for any reason without repercussion if or when they receive an assignment they don’t want, or for any other reason.

First Responders deserve absolute respect and thanks for doing jobs, particularly nowadays, that are as, nearly as, or even more inherently dangerous as many military occupations. Just don’t equate the two as doing so risks diminishing both.

I say this as someone with family in both warrior roles, and whose practice is dedicated to both. Interestingly, family and friends in both roles are the ones who persuaded me to this line of thinking. The most vocal have been the First Responders.

ninja

OAM…

THANK YOU for your feedback…We really appreciate it!

Sadly and due to no fault of their own, we have met Military Members who somehow avoided deployments, going to the field, i.e. only working a 5 day week, i.e. 0630-1700 hours (dont know how they did it), while we met First Responders who did put their lives in danger thru encounterments with fires, gunshoottings, caught up in domestic violences.

Looking forward in reading more of your posts that AW1Ed shares with us on TAH. You have become an inspiration to some in the ninja family Circle…Thank You so much again, OAM!

(Incoming: Chipster and KoB…)…

Only Army Mom

ninja- thank you for your kind words, it warms my heart.

I agree not everyone who served faced the same dangers. Just as the majority of First Responders across the country, sans those in major metro areas, may have never fired their weapon outside the range, or saw a GSW in person.

Regardless, they go home at the end of every shift and can walk away at any time for any reason. Do you really think it appropriate to offer the same…perks?…to Deputy Snuffy who carries his bullet in his pocket as we do to the guy who signed up and through no choices he made, never left CONUS but ~could~ be sent anywhere at anytime?

ninja

Hi, OAM…You are so welcome…Again, your articles as well as strength have caught the eyes of our family, friends, coworkers…and have provided an inspiration for them because you display Courage… We are open minded and understand what you are saying. We discovered First Responders do get discounts and last time we checked, at Home Depot, unless the website is outdated. Yes, First Responders do have a consistant place to go to after their mission is complete. Don’t know if any are in contracts that they have to work a certain time period before they can leave. All First Responders we know are either hired through their local governement, a contracting agency, etc. etc. The are with a Police Force, a SHeriff Office, an Ambulance Company, Fire Stations…All of those we know did those jobs for 20 plus years. Am thinking Army Troops during the “Peacetime” Army in the 70s/80s/90s where we have ran into Soldiers, who were Active Component (contract was 3 years Active, 3 years Reserse) who were with TDA units, Garrison jobs who somehow managed not to go overseas, never worked on weekends, never deployed, basically working 0800-1700 hours, M-F. Some of them left the Army before 9-11. Some of them never went up in Rank and some of them managed to get in 20 years without doing all of the above. We witness during Desert Storm Army Nurses and Doctors all of the sudden get out “because they did not join the Army to be killed”….and yet, years later, can get those discounts. I guess one size does not fit all. There are some of us that can attest we did multiple deployments in the Sandbox during OEF/OIF, only to watch those who could have replaced us somehow get out of deployments. What we were saying is that the discounts are not publically announced for First Responders as they are for Military Veterans. First Responders do get discounts. The irony is that we, the ninja family, served a long time, were deoloyed so many times, been away from our families, have been in environments that we thought we… Read more »

Phuque ’em. It’s all warm and fuzzy that Homo Despot is following Lowe’s example and giving a few cents off for Vets. All while they push their Chinese built trash off on us. And Arthur spends a lot of his profit, propping up his National Felon League joke of a football “team”, and promoting the “woke” narrative.

My locally owned hardware store gives me great prices, service, and can get me just about anything I need. And it’s not a 60 mile round trip to get there. Buy local…buy from independents. These are personal opinions and YMMV.

ninja

KoB:

For years, the ninja family has stayed away from Food Chains, Retail Store Chains, etc etc and has always tried to shop and purchase from”Mom and Pop” shops when we can find them.

We have to admit we still use Military Installation Commissaries and there are advantages of using PX/BX/Navy Exchange for some purchases, especially the tax breaks. Years ago, we did use a local Home Depot to purchase an appliance because of the excellent service we received there when looking for that appliance. However, we try to give our business to local “Mom and Pop hardware stores for items we need…Sadly, those stores are disappearing fast.

We have never been to a Golden Correl on Veterans Day because we have seen folks “abused” that Veteran Day’s “Freebie”…Nothing like a Glutton stuffing/cramming his or her face with free food, bragging that they are a Military Vet, yet in reality, need to lose those extra, extra, extra pounds…the extra pounds that cause back pain, knee pain, diabities, cardio problems, which in turn those Vets collect the tax free VA Disability that we are having to shell out..as if we are Enablers of their poor diets.

Have to admit, in our hearts and in the back of our minds, the ninja family felt something was not right when we read the Military Times story. We were cynical about it…so thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Again, we appreciate Steve posting this…and again, just wish there is more emphasis on others, such as First Responders, getting a “Discount”.

Last note. We quit giving our personal information via Internet just to get a “discount”. Way too much Junk Mail. Some Companies DO SELL Personal Info…Data Brokers…Sometimes they want our Credit Card. We have already had our identities STOLEN 3 Times with using Credit cards…and guess what..someone racked up $2500 worth of stuff using our credit card at a Home Depot located 300 miles from the ninja nest…We are now trying to use CASH instead of Credit Cards to buy stuff.

😉😎

KoB

ninja, ’bout the only chain store I use on a regular basis is the K Roger…and they make very little profit off of me. I have a feel for their “Sale Items” cycle and only get those things when they hit my price point. I have been bending their ear on the treatment of their employees in re the ChiCom Originated Virus Infecting Disease of 2019,(no jab= $50 a week extry in health insurance costs) taking away the “Hazard Pay” and what their CEO makes. One of the few places I use my debit card (get cash back on purchase instead of going to the bank/credit union). I have a very, very small “electronic footprint” (no fakebook/twitter, no on line banking, very few on line purchases (secure credit card only) and DO NOT give out a real phone number/address/email/name to anybody that wants that info for me to buy from them. If pressed for that I’ll leave or say “I’m Joe C. Wells, 2469 Gray Rider Way, Santo Rio, Tx 41865”. The clerk never bats an eye or misses a beat while typing it in.

I am a very firm believer in supporting independent “Mom and Pop” businesses. My little village has most of what I need, and if I do have to go towards the little big town (read K Roger), I have independents that I trade with there. I may spend a tad bit more now and again, but to me it is worth it. The sweetness of lower price from “The Big Boys” is forgotten long before the bitterness of poor quality and service sets in. gabn/rtr/hbtd

A Proud Infidel®™️

FWIW, Ace Hardware stores are typically family-owned outlets, thus I like shopping there.

KoB

Yep! One of my goes toes in the littler big town @ FOB Hawkins Hill. Locally owned & operated, got most everything a Homo Despot (just not as many of each item), prices in line, Vet discount, and an Ace Rewards Card. Gots a real nice Ladies Gift Shop in there, repair of any kind of L & G equipment, and rents heavy equipment Nice to know where you can get a woodchipper real fast if you need one…you know…for…reasons.

MarineDad61

[The military discount program is now open year-round to all veterans with
other-than-dishonorable discharges.]

Other than honorable?

Phonies and Stolen Valor turds
just got a better deal (than Lowe’s) at Home Depot.

Both in my town.
Lowe’s has Veteran Parking spaces, which I seldom use anyway.
And in many cases, the prices are reasonable on smaller stuff,
and I am happy to pay full price.

Flakpup

It is actually ‘other-than-DISHONOARABLE discharges’. So it allows for individuals with Honorable, General, Medical, or Separation for Convenience. Might even allow for a Big Chicken Dinner-type discharge (Bad Conduct Discharge) to get the discount, since I don’t think it’s considered a straight dishonorable.

MarineDad61

Flakpup,
Thanks.
Yep, BCD Bad Conduct.
And….. OTH (Other Than Honorable).

Green Thumb

All of which = Shitbag Loser.

MarineDad61

Green Thumb,
Home Depot, meet Golden Corral Buffet.
(My town ALSO has Golden Corral!)
Turds and phonies line up every Veterans’ Day Monday
for a free meal.

ninja

MarineDad61:

The ninja family *SHUDDERS* about Golden Corrrel/Veterans Day.

Nothing is more disgusting thar someone bragging about being a Vet, shoving plate after plate of food into their mouth and expect folks to feel sorry for them because they are EXTREMLY OBESE and have all kinds of Medical issues BECAUSE OF THEIR EXTREME OBESITY.

Or cut down folks who they say have no business having a free meal at the Golden Correll because of Stolen Valor while embelleshing their Military time and wearing unauthorized medals and badges.

Green Thumb

You never know, though.

You have the GD dude with maybe the AAM in the mix. Fucking hero he is!

Had one guy tell me one time that he had 18 months in.

My response: “Oh, the Court Martial Discharge”.

Shitbag walked off.

Bubblehead Ray

Yeah… who ever heard of a fat guy who did anything special when they were in the military? https://www.military.com/veteran-jobs/career-advice/military-transition/famous-veteran-charles-durning.html

Green Thumb

And murders, rapists, pimps, dealers, etc.

But not all of them get DD’s.

Revenue stream-driven fucking joke.

Green Thumb

Fuck this.

I will stop going.

Lowe’s it is from here on out our my local hardware store.

rgr769

The Lowe’s discount is easy peasy to get. Show them a DD-214 or military ID and they code you in their computer system as a vet. Give the cashier your phone number when you check out and you get the discount.

Green Thumb

Cannot say as I have seen, though, a retiree with a substandard discharge.

They might be out there, but I have not seen them.

Jus Bill

The Lowe’s discount is also tied to your Lowe’s credit card. If you have one you automatically get the mil discount deducted from your purchase.

Jason

I shop more at Lowe’s cause it’s easier to get in and out of but the Home Depot here, has Purple Heart Veteran’s parking really close to the entrance.

Hondo

Home Depot sends a hearty “Thanks for the marketing info we can (and will) sell to everyone who will pay for it” to everyone who registers under their program.

ninja

Hondo…

Please read what the ninja family posted above in reference to your comment.

We wrote it BEFORE you wrote your comment.

Yep. YOU NAILED IT.

Hondo

ID theft is one problem, and probably the biggest threat IMO – although the credit card fraud you experienced was IMO far more likely due at least in part to an online data breach for an insider job perpetrated at a point-of-sale rather than sale of marketing info. Cloning a non-chipped card reputedly wasn’t that difficult if you have (or can get) the info off the card plus some other info about the target – and an online data breach often provides that additional info as well. That’s one reason most credit and debit cards today are chipped.

Other problems include the potential for increased telemarketing calls and increased junk mail. (Most programs require both address and phone number; you have to go “round-and-round” to omit either or use fictitious info.) While increased junk mail is for the most part merely an annoyance, it does create an increased cost that’s borne by both the local municipality and the recipient via higher trash service costs. And increased telemarketing calls are a major annoyance – and can tie up phone circuits during an emergency situation under certain circumstances. Plus, those lists of numbers get sold by telemarkerters, too.

ninja

Our credit cards DID have chips…

We refuse to give our phone numbers AND address when going to some stores…even Zip Codes…We are not Stupid as we know EXACTLY why Businesses want our information.

True Story. A DC Museum INSISTED we provide name, phone number, zip code when we bought something with cash. I got fed up and instead of walking out the museum with a purchase for a child, I said my name was “Marvin.” Last Name “Martian”. Phone Number: “123-456-7890.” Zip Code: 66666-6666.

The Clerk with that smug look on her TYPED everything I said on her Computer Cash Register. It took the Act of God for members of the ninja family to keep a straight face.

Along time ago, when we used to get junk calls, we turned the tables on the caller by trying to sell them Life Insurance…Boy, you talk about a fast *CLICK*…

Or speak Pig Latin..

🤣😂

David

Phone number XXX-867-5309. Have yet to have anyone notice it. And since no one is allowed to have that number (last I heard there are something like two grandfathered listings) no one gets junk calls.

Me, I’m already in both Lowe’s and HD’s system and have yet to get any spam calls or mails directly from them. Have tey sold my info? Whatever they got for it is far outweighed by the thousands I have saved over the last few years there. I’m ahead.

ninja

Anonymous

For good time, for a good time call…

Hondo

The card’s mag strip can still be cloned even when the chip can’t. Many if not most/all chipped cards still have those for use where chip readers haven’t yet been installed. Further, many places with chip readers will allow someone to try swiping their card if the chip reader isn’t working or doesn’t want to work after 2 or 3 tries.

Plus, the chip isn’t used in online transactions. It’s also possible that your fraud was a fraudulent online purchase placed for local pickup of items currently in-stock at that specific location.

Regarding addresses used when someone demands one for no good reason: another address/phone number combo of use might be 20 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001 (alternate: 350 Park Ave, New York, NY 10118), phone: 212-736-3100. Both are legit – they’re the street addresses (visitor and tenant, respectively) and info desk number for the Empire State Building. (smile)

“other-than-dishonorable discharges”

No discharge at all is “other than dishonorable”

I would rather just go about my business and not bring my
military service into it. That’s not why I served.
There are other ways for large outfits like HD to help
veterans and their families without trying to make a buck
off it and shine light upon themselves as altruistic.

Green Thumb

Man, your missing the dudes with 90 days combined service from the NG, AD and Reserves with two or more branches of service no less!

90 days = Veteran!

And boy, do they like to tell everyone they were a Veteran.

My God, it was horrible… I had to get up when it was dark and do PT, maaan!

Well, I guess this means Ole Hunter Biden can now get a discount at Home Depot..

Chore Boy?

(to explain, because some of you aren’t ghetto, nor Cops aficionados; Chore Boy is copper ‘steel wool’ that is used in the end of glass crack pipes as ‘stuffing’ to keep the smoked material at the end. Copper does not ‘burn’ at lighter temperatures unlike steel wool. You can tell how seedy a gas station is if they sell pieces of the copper scrubbers ‘on the low’. You’re welcome)

ninja

Roh-Dog:

🤣😂😆😅🤣😂😆😅

Green Thumb

I believe the False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) wold know that.

As he used to be (and probably still is) an avid drug user and he is also (so he says) a Law Enforcement Officer.

Roh-Dog

Well, he CAN transcend space and time, “..a data systems technician with the U.S. Navy from 1984 to 1982.”

Yeah, that is a direct quote: https://about.me/philmonkress

Green Thumb

He is a “Phildosical” dude.

Tough two-year hitch that was.

rgr769

Does HD stock crack pipes?

Roh-Dog

Not that I’m aware. They do stock roll-your-own shotguns. Just make sure the barrel is over 18.5″.

Green Thumb

So can Phil Monkress.

Roh-Dog

So, a savings of 10% on top of all this Bidenflation sloshing around? Fking sweet.

If only now we could 6uild 6ack 6etter, the prices’ asymptote to infinity could really yield some impressive ‘discounts’.

Are these Service Members “entitled” to get that durn discount?

Well, the ninja family feels better now, because when we initially read the article, we had this bad, disturbing feeling about the article…TRIED to be positive, instead of cynical…

Turns out, there ARE others who are feeling the same, durn way…

I have been showing my shrunk down 5 Mil thick laminated DD 214, Navy on one side and ARNG on the other side for years at home depot and no problem so why are they going to fix something that isn’t broken. Can I go through the process at the store or do I have to use the PC which I know will be confusing and difficult fo me to do. How do you prove that you are a Vet doing the online procedure???? I don’t understand.

ninja

Jeff, you can still get your discounts the way you were doing it.

Nothing changed for you.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

ninja;
Thanks for the heads up on the HD discount procedure.

Daisy Cutter

I’ve often wondered if I got locked inside a Home Depot for weeks or months in some apocalyptic disaster, could I survive with everything at my disposal?

I think food may be the biggest concern, but they do have jerky and corn nuts at the registers.

Or would I be better off in a Piggly-Wiggly, WalMart or Sam’s Club?

I don’t know why I have these thoughts. Perhaps I should see somebody?

Daisy Cutter:

You asked:

Does anyone think that Heavy Chevy (the one with the phony pee H dee) will take advantage of this?

The Stranger

You know, this new program kind of sucks. There didn’t used to be a cap on this. I spent a fuck ton at Home Depot over the past year and a half buying material to remodel my house, far in excess of the $4000 described above. They would accept either my military ID or my VA card (I left my CAC card in my home computer that day). So, basically, they screw over currently serving military and honorably discharged veterans by placing a limit on the program to give discounts to shitbags with substandard discharges with the exception of dishonorable, which almost no one gets anymore. Beautiful…fucking beautiful.

OldCorpsTanker72

My local Home Depot forces me to use a smart phone to connect to their “app” to get an in-store veterans discount. I don’t have a smart phone. I used to get their discount, can’t do it now.
