Police shoot man reportedly waving rifle on highway
Austin police shot a man who was waiving a rifle on a highway Friday, the Austin Police Department said. The man is in stable, but serious condition. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
Police were on their way to the scene of a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 183 a little after 10:30 p.m. Friday when they received a call that a man was bleeding from his face, Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon said during a news conference Saturday about the incident.
Within moments of that call, 911 received several calls about a shirtless man waving a black rifle while walking around the intersection where the crash was, Chacon said.
Other calls came in minutes later that the man was pointing the weapon at people and was firing it into the air.
An APD sergeant reported over radio that he heard a gunshot in the area. Another officer then located the man minutes later, according to police.
The officer then exited his car with his shotgun and instructed the individual to drop his rifle. The individual did not comply and continued to walk toward the officer while holding the rifle, police said.

Homeowner fatally shoots neighbor who forced his way into Grand Prairie home, police say

Dec. 24—FORT WORTH — A Grand Prairie homeowner shot to death his neighbor who had forced his way into the home Thursday afternoon, Grand Prairie police said.Authorities did not provide any information on why the neighbor had gone into the home.
No arrests have been made in the case as Grand Prairie detectives continued to investigate the fatal shooting.
The neighbor has been identified as 43-year-old Elon Thomas of Grand Prairie, according to Grand Prairie police.
The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at a Grand Prairie home in the 2800 block of North Texas 360.
Thomas forced his way into the home at the same time that the homeowner retrieved a firearm. The homeowner then shot his neighbor, according to Grand Prairie police.

Curious as to what type of load the officer uses in the shotgun.
Used to see lots of patrol cars with a shotgun across the dash.
Don’t see that around here anymore. Too scary?
I think there are many other electronics now attached to the dashboards, the shotty has to be attached, muzzle-down, to a clip/holster by the driver’s right side.
IMHO at that distance, the shotty overrules the rifle and if the perp had been in his right mind he’d’a complied (this is Austin, so drugs were probably involved).
Glad to see that Austin PD still has some functionality. But the Mayor is probably apoplectic that one of his reliable voters has been shot.

for real estate on the dash. And vehicles today are smaller.

My old Dept used OO buck. I have no idea about Austin. Frankly I am surprised he wasn’t limited to a bean bag shotgun given how flaky Austin is towards their PD.
My department also used double 00. Our shotgun went from riding in a box in the trunk to an electronic lock secured to the dash to riding between the seats against the roll bar/cage when the Chevy Caprices began showing up with bucket seats and MDTs.
We had if I remember 850’s loaded with double O and their was an AD inside the truck and for awhile, every time the truck made a turn, you would hear the shot moving around above you. another time their was an AD inside A&S dept store in Brooklyn into the ceiling in front of the elevator. Dispatch gets a call from the NYPD saying that they got a tip that the crew doing the store was going to get hit so a back up crew was there to back them up and the guy on the backup crew had the AD. Over the years while working there, we had revolver and shot gun AD’s.
Double-ott buckshot is the preferred tactical shotgun round, according to the teachers at my tactical shotgun course. The other alternative is the slug, which will stop anything short of a moose. I watched a Jesse Stone movie last night where he put down an assassin with an MP-5 with two slugs to the chest. He told the guy, “I don’t think you are gonna make it.”

Somebody once asked me what I thought about workplace violence. “Deer slugs, 12-guage deer slugs work great,” I said. They left me alone after that.
I think they were being annoying. If so, they never tried to be again.
P.S. Didn’t even have anything 12-guage. Much to be said for the power of smart-alecky remarks.
