Nashville pastor tackles armed suspect during church service, police say

A quick-thinking pastor in Nashville and a handful of congregants managed to tackle and disarm a suspect police said brandished a firearm during a Sunday morning service.

The dramatic scene played out inside Nashville Light Mission Pentecostal Church on West Trinity Lane, Fox 17 Nashville reported. Police in the city said Dezire Baganda, 26, who was seated toward the front of the church, took out the firearm and told members to get out of their seats.

The pastor was at the altar praying with congregants, but then quickly tackled the suspect, police said. Other members inside the church reportedly helped the pastor hold the suspect in place until police arrived. No shots were fired.

Man Arrested After Attempted Armed Home Invasion, Separate Stabbing in Cambridge

A college student living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, says she fought off a man who was armed with a knife, as he allegedly tried to force his way into her apartment Sunday morning.

“He was using a screwdriver to get in our door,” Julia said.

Cambridge police have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Mark Pincus, of Plymouth. He was arrested Sunday morning and faces several charges in connection with the home invasion and a separate non-fatal stabbing in East Cambridge that followed.

According to Julia, Pincus had already made it in the main door and was trying to get through a second door to her apartment.

“All of a sudden it was this huge thump, and I went and opened the door. It was half open and then he tried to come in, so I pushed him out of the door,” she said.

Julia says she was able to lock the door, and her friend called 911.

Remington, nation’s oldest gunmaker, to move global HQ to Georgia

Remington, the nation’s oldest firearms manufacturer, said Monday that it will move its global headquarters to the Georgia city of LaGrange and open a manufacturing facility and research center to design and produce the company’s guns.

The gunmaker plans to spend $100 million and create about 850 jobs in Troup County over the next five years, Gov. Brian Kemp said. The company said in a statement that several of its “strategic products” will be made in Georgia, though it’s not immediately clear which weapons will be manufactured in the state.

The company’s roots date to 1816, when it began pumping out flintlock rifles as American pioneers fueled the nation’s westward expansion. But the gunmaker fell into financial turmoil in recent years, with slumping sales and legal scrutiny over the Sandy Hook school massacre sparking a downturn.

Remington filed for bankruptcy in March 2018 and then again in July 2020 after negotiations to find a buyer broke down with the Navajo Nation. Even as gun sales soared amid pandemic-related uncertainty and GOP concerns about new firearms restrictions, the company struggled to regain its financial footing.
