Man picking up his stolen car fatally shot an alleged street robber in Des Moines, police say

By Sara Jean Green
Des Moines police last week investigated what appears to be a crime of opportunity that turned deadly when the victim of a street robbery returned fire and fatally shot his alleged assailant, according to a police spokesperson.
Randle Cody Jr., 45, died Wednesday from multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The medical examiner classifies deaths as natural, accidental, homicide, suicide or undetermined. A determination of homicide means only that a person was responsible for another person’s death and does not necessarily indicate criminal culpability.

Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, several people called 911 after hearing gunshots in the 22900 block of 30th Avenue South, said Des Moines police Sgt. Dave Mohr.

He said the police investigation found that a 31-year-old Renton man had reported his car stolen on Jan. 18 and two days later, the vehicle was located by Des Moines police officers, said Mohr. The owner asked that the car not be impounded and he went to his vehicle’s location on his motorcycle to await a tow truck.

Hack Stone appreciates that the newspaper went to the effort of explaining to the ignorant what “homicide” means. Plenty of times that Hack sees someone on Facebook posting a link from CNN “Coroner Rules Man Killed By Police As Homicide”, and the ignorant assume that means the Police murdered the person.

Back in the early 70’s when in the local Police Academy we were taught about “homicide.” I “assumed” what most others think that homicide is always murder.

I agree, Hack…very smart of the story’s author to explain exactly what is homicide.

I learn something every day… thanks

Hack you are getting it backwards. For some the coroner merely confirms what they already knew, everyone that the police kill is murder, due to racism and therefore lawsuit worthy. There isn’t a single justified case of self defense by the police ever.

If you don’t believe me just point to a case that BLM leaders stated that the case was self defense, any time, any where, ever.

Randle needed to get a handle on his victim selection skilz. Heh heh…Too late! Ironically I am watching, as we speak, an old school B&W motion picture showing The “Buffalo Bill” “Wild Bill” Cody with a VERY YOUNG Miss Barbara Stanwyck as Annie Oakley.

Kool linky on the Kraut Rifle. (Can we still say “Kraut”?) Seems like Walther had some problems before Graybeard came along. Wonder how many of the models produced for the Eastern Front are still hanging on walls of men and women who become Heroes of The Motherland? Noticed that many of the later (1944 on) models had stocks of plywood or an early plastic/composite stock. So I guess Glock wasn’t the FIRST (ht 2 Sarge) to bastardize and make abominations.

Linky on Annie Oakley!

The M-14 I carried for 3-1/2 years in ROTC in the last half of the 70s had a Composite stock. Not sure when Gaston built his first ones.

That’s “plywood laminate”… depending on how good the laminate process, could have actually been a stronger (albeit uglier’ stock. Amusing they considered it too heavy, given that its weight range of 9-11 pounds is identical to the American M1 Garand, one of the all time greats. They do say it was muzzle-heavy.
