Boomer’s Sunday

| January 17, 2021

It’s time once again, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, for Boomer’s Sunday, where I cull through his weekly offering of ‘toons, and pick the best. Honorable Mention goes to my pals Chuck, Gerhart, Woke Infidel, AW1 Scott, AW1 Rod, and our own President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman, Cameron, Skippy, HMCS(FMF) ret, Poetrooper, Mason, Jeff LPH 3 63-66, thebesig, Keepin’ It Real, and Ex, who also have provided some entertainment. These are mostly from the right, with humor scattered around. I am more than willing to post up differing points of view if they don’t annoy me. Now what could be fairer than that? So here we are, with the ‘toons that may amuse, make you think, or just piss you off.

Note: Not a direct Orwell quote. AW1

There are some really great ones there. I the spirit of socialism I have seized several and will redistribute them….once my 3 day ban on facebook is lifted. Seems some snowflake got offended when I suggested that a person intent on a murder suicide should start with the suicide first.

The “Air Solemanis” almost got me to spew coffee all over my screen.

Note: while the Orwell “quote” above appears to have beeen invented for humorous effect, it actually mirrors a real-world incident. In that incident, a similar sentiment was attributed – also erroneously – to another opponent of Communism.

Robert Conquest was (1917-2015) an English historian who wrote numerous major works concerning the former Soviet Union. In particular, he’s the author of three well-known works highly critical of that nation’s Communist regime: The Great Terror, The Harvest of Sorrow, and Stalin: Breaker of Nations.

The Great Terror was Conquest’s breakthrough work, written in 1968. As the result of his research, Conquest concluded that Stalin’s Great Terror had led to the deaths of between 10 and 20 million Soviet subjects.

Predictably, Conquest was castigated if not demonized by those on the political left for this work. However, official documents from the former Soviet archives released after the fall of the Soviet Union appear to indicate that Conquest was quite close to the mark in The Great Terror.

When the work was republished in 1990 as a revised edition, in light of this newly-available information one of Conquest’s friends suggested that the revised edition should be titled “I Told You So, You F**king Fools”.
(Conquest was initially rumored to have been the source for this suggested – but unadopted – new title, but this attribution was incorrect.)

Dammit Hondo, that insert was a tongue-in-cheek disclaimer pointed at gitarcarver, not an opportunity for you to trot out another arcane author.

      Actually surprised someone saw it.
