NYPD shoot armed suspect at Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said police recovered two semi-automatic firearms owned by the suspect and a bag containing a full can of gasoline, rope, wire, multiple knives, a bible and tape.

By Lucas Manfredi
An armed suspect has been fatally shot by police after opening fire during a Christmas concert outside of the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine in Harlem.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said the incident occurred at 3:45 p.m. when a man shouted “kill me” and fired multiple shots just outside the doors of the church at the conclusion of the caroling concert.

Shea said that a police officer and community affairs detective who were in the area, and a sergeant located at St. Luke’s Hospital nearby responded almost immeidately, firing a total of 15 shots at the gunman. At least one of the shots struck the gunman in the head. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Man fought back during attempted carjacking in Loop after 19-year-old told him, ‘Give it up,’ prosecutors say

By MADELINE BUCKLEY and ROSEMARY SOBOL
Witnesses flagged down police while a 60-year-old man brawled with and pinned down a 19-year-old man who dragged him out of his car during an attempted carjacking Friday in the Loop.

The suspect, Jayln Moore of Hazel Crest, didn’t know the victim and chose him essentially because he “just saw the victim” and it “looked like a nice car,” prosecutors said.

Judge David Navarro on Saturday ordered Moore, who has no criminal record, held on $10,000 bond, meaning he will need to come up with $1,000 to go free until his next court appearance in the case.

This was “basically a crime of opportunity” that places “individuals at risk,” Navarro said before setting the bond.

Moore is accused of two felonies, attempted vehicular hijacking and unlawful vehicle invasion, in connection with the incident on Friday about 1:25 p.m. in the 300 block of South Wabash Avenue.

The victim was talking on his phone while sitting in his car when Moore “flung the door open” and started punching the man in the face with his fist, prosecutors said.

(One liner) The police can also add to the charges, Jay walking while he crossed the street.

Seems like Moore will be giving (and receiving) Moore when he becomes the newest employee of the BTJT Prison Deli, Home of the Cockmeat Sammich, with Man Meat Mayo and Nut Butter. Smothered in Underwear optional.

Looks like Moore will be hearing a lot of “Give it up” over the holiday season while he makes the cover of Prison Bride Magazine.

Edit:
Seems like Moore will be giving (and receiving) Moore then he bargained for when he becomes……

“…And one moving violation.”

2020, I’m surprised we aren’t hearing about more suicides by cop.

akpual

Guy was just taking car to help pay for college.

Roh-Dog

Running late to choir practice, it was jus’ ah miz commun’cay-shun.
60 year old coulda DRTed the punk and we’d be hearing it, I tell you what.

Roh-Dog

And a royal WTF?! Why isn’t bail as high as the thing the punk tried to steal? It should be $10k AT LEAST for assault with intent to rob PLUS the funking cost of the Vic.
Ungarshdangfunkingbelievable!
Note to self: next time playing a dystopian/world shtf-type game, ‘nuke’ Chicago, repeatedly.

Roh-Dog

If you’d like to play along at home. May I recommend the Tsar Bomba, it pairs well with deep dish and cesspool.

KoB

Maybe if all the potential victims out there carried the C96, we could make a clean “sweep” of the bad guys. And quitchabitchin ’bout the low bail. Bail is RAAAAYYYYYCCCIIIIISSSSSS!

OWB

Or just lock your car door. Seems like a fairly simple way to keep pedestrians out of your car.

Roh-Dog

slow to reload, but pop one an’ the rest’ll run

rgr769

The C96 is not a suitable everyday carry weapon. It is slow to reload, even if you have a stripper clip handy. Though, there is no button to push to drop a magazine. But at over 11 inches in length, they are somewhat unwieldy. And cost-wise, a 9mm one with a decent bore will go for about $3500.

David

The C96 “Broomhandle”, Winston Churchill’s sidearm of choice. Can’t improve on that recommendation!

Claw

The cathedral shooter has been identified in another news source as Luis Manuel Vasquez-Gomez (DRT), so without further ado, the Whiz Wheel®™ spins up a FRPR (H/T to API®™) score of:

63 x 8 = 504

Roh-Dog

ATH?

Claw

Roh-Dog: ATH? I’m not understanding, so help me out if you want an answer.

Roh-Dog

Sorry, traderspeak. All Time High (in score)?

Claw

Negative, there’s been a couple in the 800’s, especially when multipliers of 9 (FLTPSM) or 10 (FBBSDC) have been used.

Roh-Dog

Oh Great Keeper of the Whiz Wheel®™ and her results, thank you for your knowledge and wisdoms!

Claw

It was a good question and it prompted a quick review of the Whiz Wheel®™ Score Log and it revealed that scores of 715, 737, and 814 are the top three.

The all time score was logged on 24 Jul 19 for PFC Ali Jihad Alkazahg who went FBBSDC* and got the 814.

* Full Blown Bat-Scheisse Drooling Crazy (Hat Tip to Hondo)

Claw

A follow-up article in the Marine Times from January 2020 said that PFC Ali Jihad received a BCD, reduction to Private and three years confinement for his Dumbassery, so he more than lived up to being worthy of the all time Whiz Wheel®™ score.

Roh-Dog

May the Wheel and all its goodness smash 814 in the New Year!
504’s nothing to sneeze at but I’m fingers crossed for a digit to the left of the comma soon!
Thanks!

Got the nyc Church shooting on NYC Fire Wire on cell phone when it happened.

Ex-PH2

When are people going to learn to lock their car doors, period?

IN or OUT of the car, at the gas pump or at McD’s, doesn’t matter: LOCK THE CONFOUNDED DOOR!

Get all that bank info OFF THE PHONE!!!!!

Situational awareness seems to have deserted people these days. Pity.

The Mauser C96 is a very cool pistola. It was carted by Harrison Ford in two movies: “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Wars.” His “blaster” is a very modified C96 “broomhandle.” Over one million of them were made between 1896 and 1937. The one I have is my most accurate 9mm.

rgr769

That originally said “carried” not “carted.” Thanks, IPhone auto-correct.

David

When did he pick up a broomhandle? His sidearm was a revolver every time I looked. Enlightenment please?

rgr769

I assume you are talking about Winston Churchill. It was when he was in the Boer War. If you are talking about Harrison Ford, it was in the scene in Raiders where he shot the man with the sword, unless I am mistaken. The Star Wars “blaster” is definitely a modified C96.

rgr769

Just watched the Raider’s clip. You are correct re Raider’s. He fires a revolver at the swordsman.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I think it was a Webley wheel gun.
