Univ of Pittsburgh studying gender integration for USMC. Cost? $2M

The University of Pittsburgh is conducting a study to determine the best way for the Marine Corps to approach gender integration at its two boot camps, the service announced Tuesday.

The study comes as the Marine Corps faces a looming deadline set in the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act that mandates the service end gender-segregated training within five years at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., and integrate training within eight years at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Calif.

The Marine Corps wants “an independent, scientifically credible study of the models of entry-level military training to identify potential alternatives to increase gender integration of entry-level training,” Bradley Nindl, a co-principal investigator and senior adviser for the study, said in a statement issued Tuesday.

The study is a $2 million contract between the Marine Corps and the university’s Neuromuscular Research Laboratory and Warrior Human Performance Research Center, where Nindl is the director. He is also a professor and vice chairman for research in the school’s Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences also will partner on the study with the University of South Carolina’s Department of Exercise Science, Insight Policy Research, and representatives from the University of Maryland’s Department of Sociology, according to the Marine Corps.

I feel like this could be done cheaper, but what do I know?

    The answer always is…

    Forced outcomes

    Quotas

    Lower standards

    Persecution of anyone who complains

I can give them my analysis for $100,000.

      50K$ and a 12 pack of Yuenglings.

Using a sledge hammer to put a round peg in a square hole will get the job done. However, neither the peg, nor the hole will be the same again. And the hammer will be blamed for the damage.

      Dumbasses!

  3. USAFRetired says:

Price tag isn’t out of line. Seeing as the NDAA directed it be done $2M on how best to do it and the attendant costs isn’t unreasonable. The key is will this be some other unfunded mandate. Thou shalt do this and take the cost out of hide

If you think that’s bad, here’s one of my favorite bits of idiocy – the US Army’s $125M CSF program (2008). A good idea, based on very flawed science:

Long story short, a guy decided to take a class, and noticed that the math didn’t add up, despite the ‘leaders’ in the field getting all sorts of accolades.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Well, see, this is how that works: they get the grant money, which is meant to support their point of view.

As long as the results match their POV, another grant will be forthcoming, and all those researchers won’t have to go work some place where they ask people ‘Would you like fries with that?”

      “Complex Dynamics of Wishful Thinking”

Sounds like a treatise on the contemporary Left, in general, and the Democrat Party, in particular.

I’ve long held that modern “Peer Review” fails the concept of peer review. The Army could have saved itself most of that $125 mil by buying a few hundred thousand copies of “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.

      And me this long read…😜

It looks like Pentagon Progs are still running the Corps with their unnecessary and bad SJW inspired ideas.

  6. OWB says:

Genders have been integrating successfully for millennia, but we now must study it?????

    • Poetrooper says:

You nailed it OWB–what really needs to be studied is how to keep ’em FROM integrating long enough to get through boot camp…

      • ninja says:

        OWB:

That is EXACTLY what I thought…

And then I read this in the Stars and Stripes article:

“The Marine Corps remains the only service that does not fully integrate recruits in all levels of training and it only trains female recruits at Parris Island. While the service has recently begun integrating male and female recruits at the company level at Parris Island, it is only done when there are smaller numbers of female recruits during the slower training months.”

“The study will include interviews, focus-group surveys, physical performance data collection, saliva samples for cortisol — a marker for stress, and injury surveillance, according to Nindl. One goal of the study is to look at “best practices” from the other military services and see how they can be adapted to the Marine Corps, he said.”

“The study will specifically address “the sociological effects to increased gender integration, and consider training models which maintain the same level of discipline, physical fitness, attention to detail, and camaraderie,” according to the Marine Corps statement.”

There will be problems that prove not only can men be pigs and women made uncomfortable, but men can be made uncomfortable and women can be pigs too. Cha-ching– $2million, please!
