My predictions for the primary

| January 3, 2008

I’m no political wonk, and I don’t pretend to be – but I guess some folks are wondering what my thoughts are on the upcoming Iowa caucus – I dunno. Don’t care. The primaries are a big media circus that are more a test of how well candidates can lie to the voters than they are a way to discern a choice. It’s just a way for the networks to squeeze more money out of people.

If you want numbers, go to Election Projection. I just can’t summon up an ounce of “give-a-turd”.

So basically my only predictions are based on what I know – politics. If Republicans vote for the most Republican candidate, it’d be Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson. If Democrats voted for the most Democrat candidate, it’d be Dennis Kucinich or John Edwards. Given the reality of who’ll get votes, that’d make it a Thompson vs. Edwards match up in the Fall. Thompson wins in a landslide – Democrats couldn’t win an election against a wagon load of crap if they ran on what they truly believe.

But since Republicans and Democrats are both trying to figure out who the opposition is mostly likely to vote for (instead of who most closely represents the party to which they belong) – when it all shakes out, it’ll be Huckabee vs Obama. Why? Because they’re both idiots and both parties are convinced that the opposite party can’t resist voting for them – and they’re both so close to each other in a lack of experience and incompetent policy, no one can tell the difference between them – so there’s no real choice. It’s a safe race.

The winner? What difference does it make? It won’t be America.
Good Lord I hope I’m wrong.

“Huckabee vs Obama”: Well, it’s as good a guess as any! I’m finding all this preprimary maneuvering and polling to be a bit old. Amazing how much power the polls have, but it is what it is.

That said…

If Huckabee wins the nomination the GOP can kiss the election goodbye, and here’s why: Republicans and/or conservatives are still looking for three things in a candidate 1) fiscal/tax conservatism, 2) social issues/personal integrity 3) foreign policy hawk. Huckabee violates 1 and 3. Also, let’s face it, the American people will consider him to be “too Christian”, ie he wears it on his sleave. It’d be hard enough to win with Guiliani, since he violates #2, with the Huckster it’d be impossible, I fear.

My favories are Romney first, McCain and Thompson tied for second, Guiliani third, and Huckabee a distant third. Ron Paul is just a nut.

As for the Dems, Edwards wouldn’t stand a chance in the general against anyone except maybe Huckabee. Obama or Hillary can definately win. I’m actually thinking now that Obama might be the harder to beat. His policy positions are very left wing, but unlike Hillary he is quite likeable.

Just my .02

I get this sickening feeling in my stomach every time I see a new poll. I really wish people would wake up and realize the media doesn’t elect presidents, the people do. Of course the media like Giuliani, Romney, McCain, and Huckabee, they’re Democrats, except they have an (R) next to their name.

Hunter is my pick and he is the ONLY candidate I will vote for. If he drops out or isn’t the nominee, I will write him in. I cannot, in good conscience, vote for anyone else.

Time for more Rolaids.

Can you read palms and tea leaves too?

Given the clowns running for the GOP nomination, why not just be done with it and bring back Dan Quayle?

Nice predictions! Incidentally, I think that’s been the problem with most candidates for the last several years. The caucuses and primaries tend to figure out who they think most people outside their party will vote for, and wind up with someone none of them actually like.
