More national security cuts to the budget?
Well, ya know, I almost understand the cuts to the Department of Defense…it’s a knee jerk reaction for Liberals to go after defense first thing. But, ya know, this one just doesn’t figure. Unless they thought that no one would notice. The Obama Administration has proposed to cut by almost half funding for training federal flight deck officers – those airline pilots who are specially trained to carry firearms on your commercial flight. You know, to protect the cockpit from hijackers. According to the Philadelphia Enquirer;
President Obama’s budget for the coming year, released last month, proposes $12.5 million for the federal flight deck officer and flight crew training program, down from $25 million this year.
The White House budget also calls for a $36.5 million cut in the Federal Air Marshal Service, although $929.6 million would remain in that program.
In an environment of overall budget tightening, the administration proposes that the TSA spend $7.6 billion in 2013, a cut of $197 million.
Yeah, the defense budget, I can almost understand because they hate things that the Constitution actually mentions, these things that protect us directly, that are right in front of the voters’ collective face, well, it just doesn’t make sense in an election year, unless, like I said, they thought no one would notice.
But if you couple these cuts with the cuts to defense, and the blatantly obvious lack of cuts to social programs, it looks to me as if this Administration is planning to disarm this country in the middle of a war against terrorists, taking apart the mechanisms which have resulted in no more successful terrorist attacks in more than ten years. Sacrificing security for votes from the leech class.

Dave may be a shithead, but (to play devils advocate) he could also be telling the truth about his prior service. Probably got attached to an SF company as a support guy (for a very short time, judging from his posts) and had a bad experience being around meateaters 24/7. Based on prior experience (assigned as support to an SF company) I’d guess he prob got butthurt for doing something stupid and getting nailed on it.
To change the subject back onto the original topic, IMO this is less about budget and more about guns. The current goverment has never approved of the idea of armed pilots, hence all the hoops they have to jump through prior to every flight. If you have armed pilots, then eventually you’ll have an incident thwarted by an armed pilot. And that would mean guns are good.
My company commander Major Joel Huelsmann from when I was at 1-16 passed away last week of cancer. Why don’t you guys honor him and other vets like him that pass far too soon instead of peddling your political agenda.

J.M.: regardless of politics, I was willing to give DUIDave the benefit of the doubt on that until he played the “you’ll call my docs fake” card. That’s a huge red flag to me – if docs are legit, it’s been my experience that they can stand reasonable scrutiny (though there may be some admin errors or omissions, which can be tracked via verifiable later docs).
I frankly hope he can prove me wrong – hence my reply in comment 55 above. I can tolerate someone who’s politics are IMO stupid, provided they’re honest. I can’t stomach liars.

Besides, your “too busy” claim here is obviously bullshit. It takes maybe 5 minutes to print 2 or 3 pieces of paper, redact some PII with a marker, scan the redacted versions, attach the scanned items them to an e-mail, and send them. It takes maybe 10 minutes if you’re piss-on-yourself drunk at the time, like you claim to be just about every time you show up here. (From reading your comments on TAH, that’s a claim I can take at face value. A word of advice: to remove the urine smell from your soiled trousers, try adding Borax to your laundry. When the spouse and I had small ones around the house, we found it worked well to neutralize odors in soiled children’s clothes.)
If you remain “too busy” to take 5 or 10 minutes to defend yourself against charges of being a lying asshole – after having agreed in writing to do exactly that – then after a while people take that as proof the charges are true. In fact, I’m pretty sure most here have come to that conclusion already.
