Store manager shoots knife-wielding man in Kansas City: court documents

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
A store manager used self-defense during an incident involving a knife-wielding individual inside a Kansas City business, according to court documents.

Kansas City police responded to a shooting on Jan. 26, 2025, at a store near East 11th Street and Grand Boulevard.

Officers found Marcus Webb, who had sustained two gunshot wounds, lying on the floor.

The store manager told police he acted in self-defense after Webb allegedly attacked him with a knife.

Security footage showed Webb jumping over the counter with a knife, according to charging documents.

A witness at the scene, who was in the store with a child, said the manager’s actions may have prevented harm to others.

Earlier in the day, Webb had been asked to leave the store following an altercation, court documents state.

Suspect charged in Schnucks shooting

FLORISSANT, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A suspect has been charged in the Monday shooting at the Schnucks in Florissant.

Derrick Johnson is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action for the shooting that happened inside the Schnucks Cross Keys on New Halls Ferry Road.

According to charging documents, Johnson encountered the victim in the store’s frozen section. He then allegedly pulled out a 9mm pistol with a live round chambered and moved toward the victim, who turned and ran into aisle 11 while the suspect chased him. Police said that while running from the suspect, the victim pulled out his own pistol and shot him once in the abdomen.

Johnson was taken to the hospital after being shot and falling to the ground. His injury was not believed to be life-threatening. Police said that the incident was captured on surveillance video.
