Million Vet March on the Memorials

| October 9, 2013

Our friend, Harry Riley, sends this message;

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!

What: Veterans March to take back our war memorials

When: Sunday, October 13, 2013, at 9:00 AM

Where: World War II Memorial, Washington, DC

Why: The Obama Administration is using the government shutdown as an excuse to keep our veterans from acknowledging the debt owed to them and their predecessors. This is unforgivable. It is also unjustified, as no taxpayer funds are spent by keeping these shrines open. We will open them ourselves, if that’s what it takes.

Be with Special Operations Speaks on Sunday as we join other veteran-support organizations in repossessing what belongs to us and the nation, not to a bunch of political hypocrites.

Keep up to date on this event by checking our website: www.vetmarch.com. The latest information will be posted as soon as it’s available.

We know that there may be some degree of confrontation, given the anti-military attitude of the administration. It is our intention to avoid confrontation, and we request that you join us in avoiding any kind of physical contact with Park Rangers, police, or other law-enforcement personnel. Give them no excuse to hijack the moment.

Pass the word. BE THERE!

There’s more information at this link.

Spare your marching effort. Just call your Congressman and adress him to stop the buffonery going on in Congress. I know a lot of you ´round here have a complete different view of politics but this shutdown is just the GOP making a fool of themselves. Acting like a little kid who threatens to hold it´s breath until it gets what it wants, although it knows that it´s current parents are mostly right.

Seriously – accept the political process you all believe in. If you don´t like it and think it´s bad for the country – fine – people will aknowledge that if true and vote for your candidate in the next elections and you can revise all efforts.

509th Bob

I plan on being there.

Just Plain Jason

I am contemplating going.

Their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Million-Vet-March-on-the-Memorials/539097822833735

I believe this may be combined with a truckers’ rally aimed at creating gridlock in WDC and also a non-drive protest by bigrig drivers.

OWB

Sounds like a great day to visit the Mall!

TheCloser

@1- Please provide me with the name of the Republican who has ordered the Park Service to keep people out of the WWII Memorial so that I can write them a letter.

Last time I checked, the Park Service was in the Department of Interior, one of the Executive Branches. That is currently controlled by the Obama Brotherhood.

Old Tanker

The orders to close these monuments are coming from the white house because the Democrats want EVERYTHING or nothing. You tell me who is holding their breath like a little kid until they get what they want…

Ex-PH2

Are we supposed to have knuckled under by now, or something? ‘Cause I don’t see it happening.

NHSparky

PH2–oh, the MSM is doing their damnedest to carry the water and force us all to just snort the powdered Kool-Aid straight.

But it ain’t working. Bodaprez approval down to 37 percent, and dropping. As I stated elsewhere, if the MSM was even close to balanced, he’d have been there long ago.

NHSparky

@1–who was it that said yesterday he’ll accept nothing less than “unconditional surrender” again?

MGySgtRet

@1, you were just kidding right???

UpNorth

@#1. Well, B5 has a different take on this than you do. “Turns out, the orders to close off the memorials and to deny death benefits to the families of the Fallen came directly from…the budget office of the White House.
The White House.
Who’s in charge over there?
The President.”
By the way, they opened the Mall for the Rally of the Illegals.
So, you don’t mind if I don’t take your word for it that it’s all the Republican’s fault?

streetsweeper

I think you are on to something there, UpNorth.

PintoNag

@1 “Spare your marching effort.”

Really? It’s okay if Occupiers slime all over everywhere, but our vets can’t march? I guess some people’s First Amendment rights are more equal than others, is that the way you look at it?

Go unf*ck yourself, then come back and talk to us.

TN

I did recently read a headline that stated that “The Republicans” closed the government.

And I DO support the Constitutional process, i.e. the Representatives, of the People, in the House, establish the budget of the government of the United States, and the Executive branch abides by that, after having signed it.

JAS: Not only are you spewing the DNC party line, straight from the Admin’s talking points, but if you believe the words you typed, in the least, you have put blinders on, and purposely fooled yourself.

ALL Others: At the link are also links to other locations, in the States, for those that can’t be in DC in 5 days.

Rerun0369

As an active member, I cannot physically partake, but I do support this wholeheartedly. It is time those who are in power realize that they cannot do whatever they want with impunity.

RunPatRun

My House Representative is a Republican. I indeed wrote him…..and thanked him for holding fast. I wrote my Senators too, but with less glowing words since they’re Sen Kaine and Warner.

Really, shove a garbage bill through at the last minute using reconciliation after Ted Kennedy was replaced by Scott Brown – what the heck did the Democrats expect?

And we know Pres. Obama dislikes retired Vets, why else would he keep trying to quadruple the Tricare Prime premium and erode other benefits?

Needless to say, I’m in on Sunday and will be with Honor Flights again on Saturday.

21st Century Bonus March!

Cacti35

@#1, Hey Jas, how come the illegal aliens marching yesterday with the help of Pelosi and her ilk did not get your message?

MGySgtRet

@ 19 Cause I suspect that Jas was fully on board with those illegal dirtbags sliming up and down the National Mall.

bman

Like to go, went to gathering of eagles to protest Hanoi Jane, but had more time to plan. Long way from Kansas.

Flagwaver

Did anyone notice how the National Mall looked after that was said and done? I saw pictures this morning on GBTV… it looked like the aftermath of a concert or the last couple of Presidential swear-ins.

After the march, I say someone organize a police call to make the area cleaner than it was when you got there. Show them that Vets are willing to actually take care of the mess the Illegal Aliens leave the taxpayers with.

TN

Bman: The rally in Kansas will be held here: Kansas http://www.vietvet.org/kansmem.htm

As per: https://vetmarch.com/donate/rally-locations

OWB

@ #22: Been to several of these things already, and such a request is not needed. When Patriots assemble, they clean up after themselves without being asked.

A Proud Infidel

Has, lay off of the B. Hussein 0bama Kool-Aid before it worsens the brain damage it’s given you! As for me, I wish I could be there, but unlike the AstroTurf mob that attended the pro-illegal alien infestation, I have a job I need to work! Just watch, the Vets attending this weekend’s rally won’t make any of the mess that that mob of hippies did!

Jas

@#20 Uhm no. Guys it´s not about the march. And not about restricting any of your rights. If you want to go – then go. But it´s also not adressing the core problem just one symptom of it. Yes it sucks that this shutdown has an effect on those issues. And yes some of the ridiculous restrictions coming with it are hard to understand but mostly just following the law. But, lets face it – someone “has to pay the bill”. Now it´s widespread with different effects. That´s called socialised – and thats what democracies tend to do. Sure I could start to exclude or shift the burden of paying up from certain interest groups but this will again not lower the bill or even help the cause of it. If the Obama Administration starts to exclude cutbacks from every single unpopular post, then the opposition would just say “see no need to stop the shutdown – nobody´s effected”. But here it´s about a law putting into effect and an opposition trying to prevent it, and therefore putting the whole country into agony. What has Obamacare to do with entering a memorial? Nothing. But if you hadn´t a particular position towards that matter this will ludicrous actions will get your attention. Both parties are freakin loonatic that way. The DP arguing that you could enter again if they get Obamacare passed (again no direct relation) and the GOP arguing hoping that this stupid actions will piss off the public to rally against a law – for it´s process not it´s content. This imho leads the political process in the US ad absurdum – by proving you can still prevent laws from happening after you leave this burden of a political process fundemanted in the constitution behind and just focus on pissing people off. Again, I´m not taking side in this shutdown issue on any party´s side – they are both acting poorly, but again you have an elected president and senate and I do think Obamacare is a good idea. Therefore I´m looking towards the GOP and state: Just because… Read more »

TN

So, JAS, when Obama decided not to enforce US law, previously, you opposed him as vigorously then, as you support his actions now?

A few examples:
Ordering DNS to not deport illegal aliens.
Ordering Federal Attorneys to not defend DOMA in court.

Or, because you support the policies of your party, despite those policies being contrary to the laws of the United States, you supported the lack of enforcement by the White House?

Do you believe, Jas, that since laws had previously been enacted, contrary to the Civil Rights Acts, that those laws should not have been negotiated in Congress?

Do you believe, Jas, that since President Bush (Sr) had been elected by the people, that the Congress should have rubber stamped his budget, rather than shutting down the government, as a measure to force him to raise taxes?

2/17 Air Cav

Jas. Your piss-poor thinking is revealed in your piss-poor writing. By the way, I can’t quite place youir accent. What is it? Oh and continue to respect our opinions while we dismiss yours. And note that I didn’t call you an asshole. I’m saving that for next time.

OWB

Oh, and hope to see a few of you there.

Tman

Would be worth the trip just to spot all the phonies wearing their cammies full of medals.

You’d think phonies would know better these days in this internet day and age of ours.

But nope, the phonies need for attention and delusions trump common sense.

Should be a fun day of ‘spot the phony.’

Jas

@TN

Who “ordered” ?
I don´t say everything runs smoothly up there – and this is not my point.

Any law that was enacted and is unconsistutional or against another law is eligible to be strucked down by SCOTUS. If you think that this system isn´t working than that´s a whole other discussion.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. That´s how its supposed to work.
Well of course the corresponding budget funding the law is a matter to political discussion. But the discussion now was never about funding – it was about the law itself and that is wrong.

“Negotiations” would be fine – even a proposal for a solution of “how to fund” it, if the opposition believes or fears it is not fully funded. This didn´t happen – furthermore all the discussions and proposals are about fundamental points within the bill not the funding of it, therefore I call this a ludicrous buffoonery.

Again, I´m fine with either way the political process goes. GOP or DP making laws. If they´re in power – fine thats how it goes. But dismantling the political system and misusing it – isn´t right, regardless who does it.

Btw I don´t have a party 😉

@2/17 Air Cav

Ok.

TN

So, Jas, you DID oppose the Pelosi House, Reid Senate, and Obama Administration, when it failed to fund the construction of the border fence that had been legislated and signed into law! Right?

And you DID oppose the Obama Administration when it failed to defend DOMA in the Supreme Court, because it was after all the law, passed by Congress and signed by the President. And it was his fiduciary duty to uphold the law against challenges, even if he personally disagreed with it. Right!?!?

And you DID oppose the Obama Administration, when it ordered DNS to NOT enforce Immigration Laws, right?

And you DO NOW call on Obama and Reid to meet with Boehner and conduct the negotiations that Boehner has repeatedly asked to open. Right Jas?

TN

And Jas, since it is CURRENTLY “the law” as passed by Congress, and signed by the President, that US Troops are given a raise, no less than the rate of inflation, you also OPPOSE Reid and Obama for trying to decrease that raise? Right?!?!

Or Jas, are you only opposing the Constitutional authority of Congress to set the budget of the Federal Government of the United States, including expenditures on ObamaCare, because you support the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? Do you only oppose Congress changing laws that you like?

BTW Jas: “Compromise” does NOT mean giving the executive branch every thing he demands.

OWB

I hear ya, TN, and fully support each and every point that you are making. However, there is a troll running around in this topic! Please don’t make his day complete by letting him derail our discussion.

This here is a topic about a little something going on Sunday, that’s S-U-N-D-A-Y!! Those who do not want to attend – well, not doing something is about the easiest thing in the world to do. So, don’t show up.

Meanwhile, a couple, maybe even three or four, of my friends will likely be there just to see what is going on around the Memorials. Anyone else want to join them?

If you want to stand with a wonderful group of fellow guys and gals, mostly veterans, patriots all, COME ON DOWN!

Jas

@TN

Why is this turning into an court hearing?

1. I guess you´re referring to the Thune ammendment which was voted down in Senate (with nays from the big 8 incl. Sen McCain and others)

This was an ammendment which didn´t pass. Others partially covering similar topics did.

On a similar case the funding on the border fence security (virtual border fence security) was frozen and halted due to ineffectivness and complains by the border patrol council.

2. In my opinion it´s not the administrations task to “defend by any means” a law in a SCOTUS ruling. The decision whether a law is constitutional or not lies solely in the responsibility of SCOTUS itself

3. I don´t know enough about the DNS Immigration law incident to say something now. I should read up.

4. I call on Congress as an institution to do what it´s supposed to do and not missuse it´s powers for ideological warfare. If its about funding – ok then work on it. But to this date

“”The House has again passed a plan that reflects the American people’s desire to keep government running and stop the president’s health care law,” Boehner said in a statement. “”

For me that doesn´t sound like an invitation for negotiations on how to get a funding for a law. This is placing a gun onto the Administrations chest. Boehner is openly threatening to abandon support for preventing the fiscal default of the USA.

Jas

I don´t want to derail your topic – sorry for that.

And I wish all of you great success with your march and get the public attention for the needs of veterans. (no sarcasm there)

I wasn´t criticizing your effort, just wanted to state something about the broader picture.

@OWB

Troll? nah… I get lost before it´s getting there.

Ex-PH2

Is Jas that moron from HongKong who was posting like a drunk Aussie a couple months ago?

I was at the grocery store. What’d I miss?

There is a list on the vetmarch.org site for each state if you can’t go to WDC. I would like to go to WDC, but it’s out of the question, so I’ll have to see if I can do the Elks vet memorial in Chicago instead.

Ex-PH2

#37 – I’ll qualify that: I can’t go unless someone gives me a ride.

TN

OWB: That’s a well stated point.

PH: For a great number of years, travel towards DC, the Northern States, or the Left Coast has not only taxed my finances, but also my mental state. Hence, I can’t pick you up in Chicago, and will also look towards the State rally.

TN

PS: PH: You may qualify for refugee status in the South, but would need to complete the asylum application. It is well understood that Chicagoland people are oppressed, but the application is designed to weed out those that would export the thuggery and oppression to the Free Lands.

A Proud Infidel

Ex-PH2, we’d love to have you as a neighbor down here in FL, NO State Income Tax, and you’ll be saying “GOODBYE!” to Illinois winters!

Just Plain Jason

I will be at the Korean War Memorial in Kansas City.

Ex-PH2

South? And give up all this squalor? The excitement of waiting to see if someone burglarizes bodaprez’s house in Hyde Park? The possibility of watching Lake Shore Drive get buried in another blizzard this winter?

Nah! The cockroaches up here may be smaller, but palmetto beetles or waterbugs, they’re all still cockroaches and they’re all running for office, no matter where they are!

OWB

Anyone planning ahead, here’s the current weather forecast:

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/washington-dc/20006/daily-weather-forecast/327659?day=2

OWB

AND, we might want to catch Megyn Kelly’s show Friday evening. Could be some discussion about the Sunday events. (If something more newsworthy doesn’t occur?)

2/17 Air Cav

I am considering it BUT I’m not a protest kind of fellow. I don’t like the chanting stuff or the slogans. I’m more of a “Hey, just go to hell” kind of guy. I don’t know…

Just Plain Jason

2/17 Air Cav, neither am I, but I am kinda pissed. We have been told to be apolitical for so damn long and we are being used as political tools and props. Well I guess it is time to make a stand.

OWB

AC: You will find others of a like mind there, AC. And, given the size of the Mall, plenty of space to step away for a refreshing few moments.

2/17 Air Cav

Well, I am quite partial to Gregorian chants so my stated opposition to chanting isn’t quite true. I’ll email you, OWB, if I decide to hit the GO button. I just have to get over the image of hippies and other pukes regarding protests. Maybe if I told myself it’s just a gathering of Veterans, a convention of sorts…

OWB

That is exactly what it is. And, I could be persuaded to indulge in some semblance of a Gregorian chant, what with it being Sunday and all.
