According to Fox News, one of the suspects in the bombing at the Boston Marathon has been killed and the other has killed a police officer and stolen a car (the guy in the white cap, they say). That one is still on the loose;

State police spokesman David Procopio told news agency, “The incident in Watertown did involve what we believe to be explosive devices possibly, potentially, being used against the police officers.”

Fox News reporters on the scene cannot yet confirm these reports.

Earlier Friday, Cambridge police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said the MIT officer was responding to a report of a disturbance when he was shot multiple times late Thursday. He later died at a hospital. His name was not immediately released.

Procopio said the shooting took place about 10:30 p.m. outside an MIT building. The area was cordoned off and surrounded by responding law enforcement agencies, according to a posting on the university’s website.

Watching the local NBC News here, there was a press conference by the police who say they’ve shut down Watertown, MA, not allowing anyone in or out of town and they’ve told businesses to not open today. The local news also reports that both suspects have only been in the country for a year or saw and have international ties, but, again, there has been so much misinformation in this case, tale it all with a grain of salt.

From NBC4 in DC, this video taken with a cell phone of the shoot out at MIT;

UPDATE: The local CBS News reports that the second suspect is a 19-year-old Chechen named Dzhokar Tsarnaev. Bloomberg reports that one of the victims of the bombing helped identify the Tsarnaev brothers.

Here’s a video of Dzhokar, I think, not that you can understand him;

Tsarnaev

Fox News is saying that the brothers were here on a US taxpayer funded scholarship. So I guess the bombing was just their way of saying “Thanks, America”.

For some reason, MSNBC is saying he’s from Kzyrkistan.

CNN is interviewing a high school friend who thinks he was radicalized recently, that he was “forced” into terrorism.

CNN is reduced to reporting smells. CNN news chick; The police have their hands on the barrel of their guns…not the barrel…[pause]…the base of thier guns….

CNN reports that police are moving the media back and expanding their taped-off area. FBI’s HRT has arrived on the scene.

Fox reports that Associated Press talked to his father, in Russia, who said he is a 2d year medical student. He’s a “true angel“.

CNN is a bunch idiots. He just said that the older brother was “a boxer, a two-time Golden Globe winner”

CNN is pulling a Treyvon Martin thing – showing pictures of the misguided youth when he was a couple of years younger instead of the pictures of him robbing a convenience store or planting a bomb.

Meanwhile, MSNBC is trying to convince us that there is no terror network – that these two set off on their own to bomb Boston, which may well be the case, but stop driving so hard for the loop.

MSNBC is also reporting that a third suspect has been apprehended on a train to Connecticut.

According to MSNBC, the police found an unexploded IED at the train station in Boston which is why they shut down Boston.

Media is speculating that this video was posted to YouTube by the older brother on his account “The Emergence of Prophecy: The Black Flags From Khorasan”;

Bill Hemmer at Fox News says he heard shots fired, and something about an explosion near the Dunkin Donuts which solves the mystery, because, ya know, America runs on Dunkin. That’s been their target all along.

In regards to Sean Collier, the officer who was killed.

Benn watching this for the past couple hours. The Feds say they are talking to Pakistan about these guys (and a list of names of others we’re interested in). That makes a lot of sense, really, because there are a ton of jihadi nutbags in Pakistan who would like nothing more than to bring their special brand of hate and lunacy here to avenge the death of Osama on their own turf.

I’ve said it constantly for years now: The federal government may not believe we are at war with islam, but islam is most certainly at war with these United States.

And anything NOT named islam.

AW1 Tim

One other note. Hopefully, considering that these two appear to be foreign nationals, this puts a stake into the heart of the immigration “reform” bills now circulating through congress.

This absolutely shows that we need to secure our own borders, and start rounding up and deporting the illegals then start vetting ALL those here on student, worker, or with green cards, BEFORE we consider any other sort of legislation.

MSGRetired

I have been listening to this on the state freq in my Dispatch all night. Prayers are with the family of the MIT Officer who was killed and the MBTA Officer who was wounded and in critical condition.

Ken

Not sure if this is accurate but WCVB TV Boston ABC is saying that the suspects are from Russia region near Chechnya.

Scubasteve

Here’s an article claiming htey have military experience…

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/19/17817173-boston-marathon-suspect-is-killed-second-on-loose-after-extraordinary-firefight?lite

They just gotta go there. Every time.

Scubasteve

They, not htey.

NR Pax

@2: I’d like to think that also, but the pro-Amnesty types will just double down and try to find a way to blame our current immigration policies for their actions.

NHSparky

Damn Teabaggers! What? They’re not?

Millions of MSM reporters and libtards (but I repeat myself) are all sorts of disappointed.

Again.

2/17 Air Cav

I should have just come to TAH for the update. Instead, I turned on the TV (aggghhhh!), turned it off, switched to radio and (aaaagghh!). The voice on radio announced that “Mike Katursky(?) had “feet on the ground in Boston.” That did it. No more radio or TV.

NHSparky

As far as the first one goes, I hope it fucking hurt like hell before he kicked.

As far as the second one goes, my earlier desire to string him up by his balls in Boston Common and have everyone come over to play human pinata with this ass still stands.

But not before he gives up everything and everyone these assclowns ever knew.

Waterboarding is the least of that assclown’s problems right about now.

Whitey_wingnut

Just heard some news cast say these individuals had to have had some paramilitary training. I can see somebody trying to twist this.

Old Trooper

@9: Yeah, they are all butthurt, because they so wanted their fantasies to come true. Sorry; maybe next time.

I wonder if they will be issuing apologies????

LMAO!!! I crack myself up.

Ken

Some info floating around is that this potentially is the suspect who was killed. Read the comment which accompanies the photo in the link below.

Believed to be the other suspect on the run.

Last night, the Breaking News section on MSN said there was a shootout on the MIT campus. Then another BN news line said it was a hoax. Then another said it wasn’t, that a cop was dead. So much for breaking news being accurate.

This morning, I get up to find two Chechen brothers robbed a convenience store, went to MIT where one of them walked up to a cop and shot him in the head. The photos provided match the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects. One of them is now dead, and the other is on the run.

Chechens come from Chechnya. They look like you and me. Chechnya tried to break away from Moscow’s central government a while back and did not succeed.

Ex-PH2

MIT is in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Not too far from Boston central.

I wonder how many of the Boston area Libs wish to hell that they had a a few guns right now to protect themselves and their families while the young lad–who probably had a tough upbringing and could use a little sympathy and understanding–is on the wing and desperate.

Hondo

Ex-PH2: the Chechens are a non-Slavic Islamic ethnic group from the Caucasas region (just north of Azerbaijan). They were forcibly integrated into the Russian Empire under the Tsars, and have been rebelling against the Russians periodically ever since. Culturally, they have more in common with Turkey and/or Azerbaijan than Western Europe.

The Chechen rebellions were originally political, but they’ve turned largely into an Islamist Fundamentalist terrorist movement. They’ve been essentially that for the past decade. Though not a direct part of al Qaeda, they are “fellow travelers” and a fair number of Chechens have fought in jihad worldwide. It’s reasonable to think that Chechen Islamic terrorists would coordinate their actions with or act on behalf of al Qaeda to “strike a blow at the ‘Great Satan'” (to use Khomeini’s stupid but apparently resonant phrase).

Freaking Chechen terrorists, very probably hardline Islamists supporting worldwide jihad. I’m shocked, shocked to find that to be the case.

Combat Historian

When I was on my Iraq deployment during 2006-07, info was that one of the best and most effective AQI snipers was a Chechen. He used a Dragunov SVD rifle, and had killed a whole bunch of coalition guys. The info was that he had a whole lot of experience sniping against the Russians during ’90s wars in Chechnya, and was now on his jihad helping AQI against their enemies.

Ex-PH2

This morning on local news, a retired FBI agent said that these two seem to want to go out like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid — blaze of glory, that sort of thing.

Otherwise, he said it doesn’t make any sense. Well, he’s civilized. These two aren’t.

Also, the surviving suspect, Dzokhar, said on his Facebook page that he doesn’t have one single American friend and he doesn’t understand why. Don’t get me started on that part.

But having been around a lot of Russian immigrants who settled in Skokie, which has a large Russian immigrant population, very FEW of them have NOT happily blended in and become productive members of their community.

So if these guys are Chechens, they just brought their war to us. Yes, we do need to tighten up our immigration policies. I think that’s more important than harping on gun control. Lots more important.

Twist

It looks like something big is going down on CNN. They might have the 2nd guy cornered.

Rock8

Two of our biggest fears: Radical Islam and Mother Russia.

Old Trooper

@21: What mr. FBI man isn’t understanding is that they are muslim terrorists and they are going to martyr themselves and take as many infidels with them as they can when they push the button.

SJ

Fox said in passing that room temp guy had been taken to Beth Israel hospital. If it is true, sweet irony.

NHSparky

I guess the little “yute” is now on FB/Twitter claiming he’s going to kill the cops for killing his brother.

Just effin great–an asshole with an outlet to the friggin world.

Ex-PH2

Their uncle was just interviewed about these two. He doesn’t understand it. He said they were having family problems.

When someone says he doesn’t have even one American friend after 10 years here, he’s socially disfunctional. It likely has more to do with not “getting along” with American people in America than it does with Islam.

jerry920

Don’t under estimate a Chechen Islamist. Remember the Beslan School massacre in September 2004? It cost the lives of 380 people.

USMCE8Ret

Just martyr his fuggin’ ass already and call it a day. The evidence for motive can likely be found from their on-line profiles and whatever radical Muslim bullshit they find on their home computers.

Ex-PH2

And if there is nothing on their home computers, what then?

Old Trooper

@31: It doesn’t matter, because he won’t be taken alive, anyway. If he can’t get the cops to come close enough to take them out, along with himself, he’ll just end it by taking himself deep.

SJ

Moooslim? I thought they were white Pentecostal, lifetime NRA members from Alabama.

OWB

Just a thought here but they were attending US universities, right? Were they radicalized by their profs who try to teach all their students to hate the US??

Ex-PH2

I’m only saying ‘what if nothing’, because the Unibomber had no political motivation. He just hated academia. Nichols and McVeigh wanted to make a statement. People sometimes do things just because they get a hair up their backsides about something.

Even the father of these two people, still living in Russia, does not understand why they did what they did.

I do not discount jihadist motivation, but there is no indication of it so far. Nor would I assume that someone who was going to medical school or a university was automatically radicalized by a professor. Not everyone who teaches at the university level is a political scumbag.

Whitey_wingnut

Good question OWB. If they find a way to capture him and then detain him for questioning…we may never know.

Hondo

Possible, OWB – but doubtful. Best I can tell, most domestic radicalization seems to occur (1) at US mosques and/or activities sponsored by or associated with same, or (2) in prisons.

Whitey_wingnut

ACLU and CAIR are already working on the case against the US being at fault and that the two were just misguided youths wanting attention because they couldn’t make friends.

Hondo

Ex-PH2: au contraire on the Unibomber, lass. Kaczynski had plenty of political motivation. He was against everything modern industrial society stood for – a modern-day Luddite. His Manifesto makes that very clear. His bombings were an anarchistic means of striking back at those he considered to be involved with modern-day industrial society, and six of his bombings included commercial targets or persons. He targetd academia because he placed science and research in the “industrial society” camp as enablers.

Ex-PH2

The ‘experts’ that ABC is consulting (mostly retired FBI) are saying that robbing a 7-11, carjacking someone in a Mercedes SUV and then calling your dad in Moscow are pretty dumb moves.

Someone also pointed out that people who are motivated to do things like this can lead what seem to be perfectly normal lives and never give a clue about their sideline. Examples of that are Nichols and McVeigh.

Paratus

Fucking Muslim goons, I called this shit, didn’t I? I’m sick of these fucks thinking they can do shit like this to the US and get away with it. We need to send DEVGRU to drag their fucking uncle out into the street in Chechnya and put a bullet through his fucking dome. You want to come here, plant a bomb, and murder an 8 year old? OK fucknut, we’re gonna hunt down your family like the dogs they are, wherever they are.

Ex-PH2

HOndo, I could rebut that by saying that the Unibomber was an anti-social moron who didn’t like anything or anybody, lived in a one-room cabin with no plumbing and didn’t even talk to his neighbors.

Old Trooper

@35: I understand what you’re saying, however, I’m inclined to not go with the “they were just pissed about something non-descript” as the go to thinking. From the start I have said who I believed was involved by the signature of the bombings. I was told that there was no way of knowing and that it could be this or that (mostly directed at homegrown rightwing extremist/militia/patriot types) and the referrences to McVeigh as the lone example of that type of attack. This wasn’t that type and had the hallmarks of jihadi all over it. Now, we find out it wasn’t the homegrown McVeigh wannabe that the media and commies were wishing for, yet; I’m expected to believe that there is still a chance that they were pissed at the Post Office as the reason to blow the fuck out of innocent people at a marathon, plus get into shootouts with the cops and all the other stuff they’ve been doing? Nope; ain’t gonna take that bait.

Anonymous

@34: The ‘professors teach their students to hate the US’ thing is about as accurate as ‘veterans are all suffering from PTSD and ready to go berserk’ thing.

Hondo

The two are not mutually-exclusive, Ex-PH2. Many sociopaths with political motivation have few or no friends. They’re sociopaths, and sociopaths tend to have few or no friends.

Kaczynski had a political agenda; he was a Luddite acting against modern industrial society, actively tried to damage or destroy it. His agenda was merely uncommon, and his means were not sufficient to do so.

The fact that Kaczynski was also an anti-social individual living in primitive conditions by choice is of note, but may or may not be relevant.

Whitey_wingnut

@45 If that wasn’t true about professors teaching that, then why are there so many reports of them teaching it?

Hondo

Back on-topic: I’m guessing we’ve got a classic case of a couple of young, disaffected Muslims who decided to become unofficial al-Qaeda “fellow travelers” and acted on their own to attack the “Great Satan” as their part in worldwide jihad. However, the possibility of them having contact with and direction by/guidance from/assistance from al Qaeda or related Radical Islamic Terrorist groups cannot at this point be dismissed. The latter is entirely possible – as the case of Hassan at Fort Hood proves.

Tman

Sounds to me more like the classic case of the attention seeking narcissist looking to gain “fame” in any way possible, with a high body count.

Kind of like Holmes the Colorado shooter.

Sure he has an Islamic background but still.

Hondo

Whitey_wingnut: Anonymous(45) is correct. Not all current university professors are radically anti-American.

I will go out on a limb given my own experiences, however, and say the following: IMO the fraction of anti-American university professors and instructors is far higher than than the fraction of military veterans who are so “messed-up” by their service that they will become a danger to society.
