30-year-old dies in shooting after trespassing dispute in Sullivan County

SHELBURN, Ind. (WISH) — A 30-year-old man died early Thursday in a shooting that followed a confrontation between him and a property owner in Sullivan County, Indiana State Police said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.Ryan Gehring, of Prairieton, had been taken to a nearby hospital before a helicopter flew him to an Indianapolis hospital, where he died.
Investigators learned the shooting happened about 1 a.m. Thursday. The release was unclear on the location, calling it as “800 North block of Shelburn.”
The release said, “Gehring was trespassing on private property and was told numerous times by the property owner to leave. A physical altercation occurred between the property owner and Gehring, resulting in Gehring being shot.”

An autopsy has been set for Sunday, the release said.
