Military Personnel Campaign Funds Favor Obama Over Romney

The Lede:

President Barack Obama has received almost twice as much in campaign contributions from U.S. military and Defense Department personnel as his Republican challenger Mitt Romney, despite Romney’s promises to boost defense spending and his criticism of military cuts set to take place in January.

Goes against everything I believe, but…

Uummmmm. . . . Didn’t we hear this same line of BS from the Romulans when their boy was trying to make a semi-serious run (snicker) for the Red Shed?
Figures don’t lie, but lyers always figure.

Chris Fox

Maybe military members realize that this country doesn’t need increased military spending? The military is one of the most absurdly wasteful parts of the government. Anybody who has had any experience whatsoever with the supply, acquisition, or maintenance sides of things can attest to this…or just anyone who has ever been in any kind of position of leadership whatsoever, really.
Ever notice how around the end of September, every unit ends up with new flat-screen TVs, office furniture and equipment, etc? Everyone blows their budget right before the end of the fiscal year because if they don’t, they’ll lose it next year. Why the hell do we allow and foster this kind of irresponsible behavior? The military isn’t alone in this, of course. All government agencies are run this way.
Have you ever bought anything “GSA-approved” or through ServMart for your unit? Why the hell does a pack of pens, for example, that would cost less than a few dollars anywhere else cost 3, 4, 5 times that much? The military doesn’t need more money. They need to learn how to stop wasting it.

“Obama’s advantage probably comes in part because some of the personnel are political appointees of his administration”

Ya think? Defense Department people make up about 40% of Obama’s “lead”.

2-17 AirCav

Together–through August–the two, Romney and the other guy–have raised less than a million from DOD and military personnel, with the numero uno donors coming from from DOD. So, all the hubbub can be dismissed. It’s a pittance and the bureaucrats are writing the most checks.

2-17 AirCav

I’m sure the facts are most disappointing to a few, some of whom arrive here out of nowhere just to clap at the sensationalized report.

Isnala

Could it also be that those most likely to support the current CINC are substantially higher in rank and therefore have much more disposible income than Romney???

-Ish

Isnala

Oops I meant than those supporting Romney…

2-17 AirCav

@6. Yes, indeed. Marty Dempsey and his lackey whatshisname aren’t going to make $10 contributions. It might get back to the boss.

JP

“The group’s study, which includes data through August”

Until after the convention, many of us weren’t donating to Romney.

sorry lefties…MYTH…BUSTED!

Virtual Insanity

I’m retired Army, and now a DoD civilian. My quick poll of the office: one intern, about 23 years old, is an Obama supporter. 33 others, mostly retired/former military, voting for Romney.

Loach

Military personnel do not tend to give money to political candidates. Because we are poor and have better things to spend money on. But the military always votes Republican.

DaveO

A newspaper owned by a man who criminalized Big Gulps and other personal choices because he could.

A campaign that accused Romney of murder, and lies about everything from Benghazi to Obamacare, even when they don’t need to.

Eh, not buying it.

Not me ….

ex AF

I remember when one of the CTFs used to schedule flight tests, hold resources, fly stuff in, then cancel. Cost a cool $12 million each time they did it. And they’d hold the range space until it was too late to use it. Waste like that would get you fired the second time you did it in a company, let alone ten or twenty.

And as far as waste, all the contractors in DoD. Bloated management. They fill with underqualified and charge for highly qualified bodies.

Mitt was a coward, not a single Romney has a DD-214. He has no clue about how to run DoD or be head wingie dingie.

68W58

No live blog?

ex AF

Was it just the AF that got the boxes of pens that leaked and were useless from supply? Or were you ground pounders smarter? (OK, Rangers got crayons..) Or better yet, no refills for mechanical pencils, you got a new box of pencils, was cheaper than a box of lead refills. Procurement was the biggest waste.

Ex-PH2

I’m watching the debate now, and I think this ‘townhall’ style of debate is not a good idea. Bo gets his data wrong and then wants to pick a fight about it, instead of moving on with the debate.
Debate is not a forum for public fights. You let your opponent make a statement, and then follow with rebuttal.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Candy IS going to have her ass handed to her. She is way out of line … she IS NOT allowed to paraphrase or re-direct. That is why Mitt is going for it!

WOTN

How many lower enlisted do you think are giving up their “disposable income” on rich politicians running for office? The single biggest number of people in one paygrade are E4’s. Conversely, there is a unionized DoD civilian for every 2 Troops. (Say thank you Clinton, & Obama).

Those DoD civilians are more likely to give politicians money, and to support Obama. These include DoD teachers, and the replacements to the Generals, for the same money, appointed by the Obama Administration.

DoD civilians are NOT Troops.

Ex-PH2

Do not want to watch, but it’s like watching spiders fight over a fly.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

He should have brought up BamaPhone as well.

Ex-PH2

Eewwww!

“Not As Big As Yours” — never say that out loud on national TV.

68W58

Mitt finally brings up Fast and Furious.

Flagwaver

So, the military who are not entirely able to vote because their ballots are being withheld, or unwilling to vote because they don’t care, are giving their money to the President who wants to take their money?

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Some jobs will never come back … Bama just said. Then he talked about how HE will create jobs ……..

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Romney takes another. See ya in Boca Raton..

Ex-PH2

OK, Bo did better this time, but there are a few things that he did get wrong, as did Romney. Contentious, yes, but there were too many interruptions by Bo.

Mentioning pension (not as big as yours) is about as tacky as you can get.

Pretty much a draw for this one, from my viewpoint.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Candy … did a horrible job. I predict a fire storm regarding her questions … worst debate EVER.

What was with the light weight pandering questions?

Tman

I love how the crowd cheered when barack got butt hurt and snapped back about the embassy issue.

That was about the only time he seemed to show any energy. ‘Improved’ from last time but still a rambling display by barack (and, umm, and, and…….).

WOTN

It’ll be scored a win by both camps. It’ll be scored a draw by the polls.

“Liar” remains no more a viable debate strategy for Obama, than it was for Biden. Unfortunately, it still plays to the diehard partisans.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

FOX is reporting …. Mehgan my gal … Candy pandered to women by selecting all the womens issues questions. This is going to be good.

Ex-PH2

MCPO, like all liberal women, Miss Candy has a ‘thing’ for Bo. Can’t see past the glam surface.

Ex-PH2

In regard to details about how anyone is going to do anything, no one in an election year puts the cards on the table face up.

NHSparky

Mitt was a coward, not a single Romney has a DD-214.

Newsflash, genius. Over 95 percent of men under the age of 57 (18 when draft ended in 1973) haven’t served.

So are we to say they’re all cowards? Is Obama a coward too because not a single Obama has a DD-214? Or Peolsi? Or Reid?

See where that line of thinking can getcha?

Country Singer

Gee, guess I should have ID’d myself as military when I donated that $50 to Romney last month.

UpNorth

Sparky, you beat me to it. It truly does take a “genius” to make that comparison. Hey, Ex AF, does anyone in the Obama Regime have a DD-214? Other than some in the DVA?

malclave

Is Obama a coward too because not a single Obama has a DD-214?

Didn’t Obama’s uncle serve in the Red Army and help liberate Auschwitz?

Bubblehead Ray

#2 Chris,
You say that, and yet you see so many Democrats who want the Government to run Health Care.

UpNorth

Malclave, don’t forget, Obama said “My father served in World War II. And when he came home, he got the services that he needed”. The libs have been trying to parse this statement for as long as he’s been on the national stage, but his words are his words. And, his father was born in 1936. Youngest combat vet in the history of the U.S. military.

#40 Anon, Snopes has been caught bending the truth a few times, unless you’ve got another source you may as well link Wikipedia

Country Singer

@40 If he was referring to his grandfather as being his father…then that means Axelrod’s “Dreams From My Father” was about Stanley Dunham, right? And not Barky, Sr? Amazing how easy it is for the most transparent preznit evah! to juxtapose people to fit whatever meme happens to be convenient at the moment…

B Woodman

#38 UpNorth,
WHICH father? Frank Davis, the Communist pornographer photographer? Obama? Sotero? Trying to keep track of this jackwagon’s family tree is a soap opera all by itself.

Twist

My question is since when is a moderator supposed to take sides like Cindy did with the Libya question? Plus Romney was right. I read the Rose Garden speach last night. When Obama mentioned “terror” he was talking about 9/11, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He then went on to talk about Libya.

disclaimer: I did have a few adult beverages in me when I read that.

teddy996

@14- you complain about all of the waste in DoD finances, then say Romney doesn’t know how to run DoD, so he’s unfit.

Is it hard to type with your head up your ass?

Devtun

Romney put in a solid performance considering he was debating 3 people – Candy and that other guy POTUS BO.

Mitt didn’t have a perfect night by any means, but held serve and made a compelling case against Barry’s record, while also spelling out his vision. I thought Mitt and BO were gonna have to be seperated by the Secret Service – man these guys don’t like each other the slightest.

Country Boy

I call BS on that statement. Here at Ft Bragg, O’ fans are few and far between. I can’t say if it’s just a Bragg thing or DOD wide, but the only O’ supporters I know in uniform or retired are/were the Admin types…. I have yet to meet a single “trigger puller” be it Infantry, Arty, MP, Cav, SF etc… who are Democrats or fans of the President.

Whitey_wingnut

I wasn’t a fan of the fact that Candy was allowed to stop Romney from throwing the facts on Obama’s last four years. Or the fact that she definitely pandered to Barry and Michelle was in the background clapping loudly when he tried to make a joke about Romney’s pension.

Scouts Out

34 I don’t like to defend the guy, but at least Obama didn’t protest in favor of Vietnam but then convienently show up in Paris for “missionary duty” once he would have been eligible for the draft. Romney is just a Republican version of the garden variety Clinton-style draft dodging coward. If he’s the best we can nominate then this country is well and truly screwed.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

It is all over – the Republicans can pack it in.
