Under The Hood to protest deployment. [ CJP ]
I sit down to write this with a lot of disappointment and sadness. I was a strong advocate of Under The Hood Café when I came back from my second deployment under the Stop-Loss policy. I made a film for them advocating their cause and why you should donate. The film, titled The Resistors (Yeah, I know how I spelled it.), was in my opinion one of my best films. After moving away and a long list of things happening there that I disagree with, I decided to take the film down. One of which was the infiltration from the International Socialist Organization (ISO). While I am not upset if a person chooses something like Socialism, I do get very angry when their agenda is to not work in conjunction with, but rather take control of an organization or establishment. Clearly, this has happened there. Many warned Cindy Thomas of this. A manger of sorts who runs the day-to-day duties of Under The Hood. But those warnings where dismissed over time and you have what Under The Hood has become today.
This is why the protest this coming Friday outside the East Gate of Ft. Hood to call attention to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment’s (3rd ACR) deployment is not much of a shocker. Not a shocker, but grossly disrespectful. There will be your usually suspects there: ISO members who never served advocating things like G.I. Resistance and other action that could harm a Soldier’s future without taking any real risk themselves. Bobby Al Hypocrite Whittenberg who claims to be a “radical feminist” but pals around with Matthis the rapist. Speaking of the rapist, it’s my understanding he’ll be there too representing Iraq Veterans Against The War in grand style as a board member and as someone who lies about his service. But this action burns me up to no end because of there will be actual deployed Veterans protesting as well as Cindy Thomas. When Cindy and me where friends she took the time to come to my second deployment when I was under Stop-Loss. She has also seen the Father of her children deployed twice. The second time, when he damn well shouldn’t have been because of medical issues that where 100% honest and documented. So when they say this is to bring attention to the fact that the Army does in fact deploy Soldiers who shouldn’t be going I can’t figure out how she doesn’t see this as disrespectful. She has certainly changed. No matter your stance on the war, that’s a rough day for everyone. I remember both times it was rough on my family and others. I’m against the war in Iraq still, but I would never think about protesting on that day. How is this supposed to help the Soldiers or their families? If a Soldier is deploying when they shouldn’t be for medical reasons, which I’ve witnessed first hand, or under the Stop-Loss policy, I can’t see how holding signs and chanting “They’re our brothers! They’re our sisters! We support war resisters!” is going to do much but piss people off. It’s a shallow action done by willfully indoctrinated people who do not truly care for the lives of Soldiers of their families, but instead are more concerned with pushing their point of view on others regardless of the impact it will have.
We’ve already seen Under The Hoods track record for helping Soldiers. But I must temper my criticisms with the new information I get so I will say that two independent sources, neither ISO members, have told me that lawyer James Branum has changed his tactics and is working on becoming better at the cases he takes on and how he handles them. If someone corrects himself or herself, I am obligated to be fair and acknowledge it. But the fact remains that Under The Hood is more focused with the “movement” and G.I. Resistance then helping Soldiers regardless of their stance on the war. If I were wrong they would have proven this already. There is no shortage of videos and posting speaking about the resistance part, but none on Soldiers they’ve just helped and got a positive outcome for. Once again, to be fair, Under The Hood wasn’t always this way. In the beginning they did help a Soldier I once new through some tough times.
However this new action of protesting this deployment is as shallow as any of their other useless marches only this time so much more disrespectful given the cavalier disregard for the thoughts and feelings of Soldiers and their Families on one of the hardest days of Army life.

It also my understanding that several people have been calling Ft. Hood’s Provost Marshall’s office on this one. Good to see people taking action.
Still waiting for Whittenberg to give his definition of “resistance” and explain how he plans to affect change without going begging to the gov’t, like he thinks IVAW has.
The person that has been calling the Provost Marshall’s office contacted me. The number is 254-287-8011 Opt. 1, then Opt. 1 again.
If a person does not want to deploy, there is a very simple avoidance for it. Not courts martial, no trial, no stockade time. Just do not enlist in the military. How simple is that? If it is just for the job, why not become a nurse’s aid, a school principal’s secretary, or even a county morgue attendant? Surely, everyone knows that to join the military is a patriotic move, and that there is a chance that you will be denied deployment, and that you won’t have the chance to stand with your brothers, but, what the hey, try it anyway. If you aren’t meant to go, you won’t. That’s the way it is in the military, but for those to scared to deploy, just don’t even enlist……….
Ok, I obviously agree w So.Class, but I’ve questions, too.
So, these guys are protesting during the actual deployment ceremony — with the fams and all that– but this is unusual? They don’t normally do this? Isn’t protesting the deployment or return of a unit disrepectful everytime?
How about at Arlingon?
Amy
I would like to know why anyone other than the families and the soldiers are being permitted near the deployment ceremony, anyway. Why is a situation that is bound to cause some kind of hassle being permitted to develop in the first place?
Casey porter is just like the old guy that yells at people for walking on his lawn, what a joke of a human being.
what kind of a corn fed fuck-face would brag about calling the cops, good going deputy doofy
They are set to deploy some elements Friday, that is when they are going to do it. However they will be right off post at the East Gate patting themselves on the back.
Hahaha at Anonymous. Just another wuss to afraid to post his name.
anon,
I’ll stand by Casey any day of the week. We have some solid disagreements, but he’s always cowboyed up and been honest and upfront about his positions and choices. I respect that. He’s also done his time on the pointy end of the spear, and i respect that a HELL of a lot more than any of those who will be showing up at this protest.
I’ll bet dollars to donuts that the ONLY reason this action is taking place is because those folks at Under the Hood know there will be a lot of press and cameras out there to see this ceremony. Under the Hood is pretty much done and they need to show some sort of relevance in order to try and attract more money to support themselves. This is, for them, free publicity. It’s a sick damned way to earn a few bucks, and I hope the lot of them suffer snake bites, scorpion stings and ant bites, and some serious sunburns for their assmaggot, crapweael stunt.
But Casey stand head and shoulders above those folks, and I have no truck with him, and would be happy to buy a round on his behalf.
What kind of back ass country fuck would disparage Casey anonymously?
I think anonymous posted his picture so we’d know what he looks like. Considering his writing, I’d say it’s a fair image.
I wonder if it’s someone from UtH or Texas
What’s wrong with corn?
Wow, that pic in #7 is some “amazing stuff”..
Anonymous:
Are all you cowards at Under the Hood afraid to post with some sort of credible signature? One that can be linked back to you? Just a bunch of pissy pants sissies.
Just showing your photo is not sufficient for us to identify you, unless of course, you are the asswipe known as either “Numbnutz” or “Matthis”. Same person, different day.
Old Trooper said,” What kind of back ass country fuck would disparage Casey anonymously?”
DefendUSA gets to use a favorite expression to answer OT…
A Buddy Fucker Extraordinaire, friend! Another anti-war freakazoid who has no balls to pony up his name.
This is just wrong on so many levels. I got a chance to work with the 3ACR in 2008. They seem like a good group, also they helped me a great deal personally while I was at FOB Codwell. It is deeply insulting to see them treated that way.
its a bit ironic that so many people with handles are critical of anon for not using his name. the only people here with any balls seem to be Jonn and Casey. ALL the rest of us post under an anonymous name.
J, you’re right to a certain extent– but most post often enough to “know” them at least by their handle and many have their info linked to their handle.
but the anon stuff is silly. say something ridiculous? take credit for it. you know?
Most people know I’m Amy– but it’s much more fun to be the crazy Mr. Radley.
🙂
What is it with the name / no-name business? The handles are fun. This is a blog…a forum for discussion and debate. What does anyone’s name have to do with anything? I’m sure Jonn or Casey could easily find out who I am if they needed to know; probably a whole bunch of other folks who post here, too. If it becomes important enough for my name to be used, I’ll use it. Otherwise…beware ye of the ol’ devil PintoNag!
why do the posts always go onto some ridiculous tangent but the message boards failed so abysmally? lol
and on another point– jonn was a hell of alot more fun when no one knew his name… You think he’s scathing, NOW? LMAO
My real name is Thomas Hiway
OH my gosh, that explains so much…
J,
You’ll note that if you clock on my handle, it will take you to my blog. From there you can access my facebook page with my real name.
I’m not hiding at all. My screen name is my brand name, it’s what I blog and comment with, but it’s not at all hard to find out who I am.
Well, Boo, although I prefer to use a “handle”, there are enough people that know my real name as well. But, just in case some are still wondering (as if anyone really cares)….it’s Mike. If anyone is really curious, they can find me in the fb followers of this site up in the corner of this blog, just look for the old fart in the leather vest facing away (my mug is too ugly for anyone to see). So, J, It’s not ironic, but most just prefer to use the “handle” for consistency.
Now, back to the subject of this thread……If you joined the military after 9/11/01, you should have known what the hell you were getting in to. If you joined before that for the college money, then you really need the college education, since you didn’t bother reading the fine print that says “ass, gas, or grass; nobody rides for free”. There is nothing that UTH, or any of the other commie coffee houses are doing to really help soldiers and have become just another place for the politically stunted to go and bitch and try and talk soldiers into doing something really stupid. I have no love loss for those places, as I have made those feelings known several times. The Cindy Thomas’s of the “movement” don’t have to pay the price for the actions of the soldiers they influence. They are bottom feeders looking for something they can attach themselves to to bring some sort of meaning to their worthless, pathetic lives. (told ya I was crabby today)
Just to swim against the “lets back Casey up” current, I have to say that Casey allowed himself to be used as tool of the left/communists in this country. His “I’m still against the war in Iraq” (a war we won) statement shows he has not changed much. Just remember, John Kerry served honorably as well and he is still a communist tool all these years later. Just my opinion but Casey has done nothing to redeem himself for his earlier mistakes/lapse in judgement.
J, same here. Anyone who clicks on the link can find out who I am with minimal effort, should they decide to do so.
Agree with Marine 83. If Casey is against the war, he should have refused deployment and taken brig time for his beliefs. How well can you do your mission when you have joined a group like IVAW?
Ron Landers GySgt(ret) OIF retread
You missed one, J (18)… Rob Chiroux also uses his real name when he posts. Usually to provide well documented facts to counter his son’s seemingly perpetual stream of lies.
J,
In full disclosure, my name is Adam Robb. Jonn (excuse me, Gunny Hiway) and TSO already knew that but I always comment as “Old Tanker” on any blog to provide continuity….even back on LGF before Charles lost his mind. Are you old enough to have played with CB radios in the 70’s? In the Army my radio call sign was Charlie two one Delta FWIW.
My real name is James DeLay.
I am officially changing my handle to cap’n jack, cuz I keep asking.. where has the rum gone? 🙂
so the list gets longer with some others with balls. I take my comment back in regards to anyone who proved otherwise.
What about you, J?
I am not hard to find either. As with Tim, DUSA is my handle and I like it. You wanna know my name, ask me. I never run from anything I say.
If IVAW really wanted a draw, they could’ve ditched the coffee house idea and gone with an anti-war titty bar instead (hey, it’s Killeen, you know).
Thanks for all the support everyone. For Marine 83 and YatYas, I stand behind my films and the Soldiers to this day. With the exception of Mike Kern given he has been dishonest and lashes out in childish ways. The first time I met with anyone in the anti-war “movement” was a member of the International Socialist Organization (ISO). I had never met a Socialist person before and to be honest with you politics and all this left and right is all bullshit to me now more than ever. But I give everyone a fair shot because at the time I knew nothing about Socialism. I can tell you I do not care for it one bit now though. I knew they where excited to see an Active Duty Soldier willing to speak out against the war and I knew that not all of these new people I was meeting could be trusted. That became more and more clear as my second deployment under stop-loss was looming that I knew they where more agenda/cause oriented then concerned with their “friend”. Well to be fair, some of the activist had such a lack of knowledge about the Army that they wanted me to stay because they where concerned for my life; not knowing what it would mean to my future. But most I would say were concerned about their own agenda and cause, and not my future. On my second deployment I was in IVAW, that’s no secret. But to claim that I could not somehow do my job while with IVAW is just plain silly. My record is clean and I’ve been upfront and honest about my service record all the way. Furthermore, once I found out more about IVAW I left in grand style and it was quite a blow to their worthless organization. I also continue to fight against these clowns and do a pretty good damn job of it. Marine83, we won the war we are still fighting? hahaha And yes, I am against the war in Iraq and make no apologize for it. Also YatYas, if… Read more »
#37 Casey:
Just wanted to tell you your post was an interesting read. Your integrity is to be commended.
CJP, I’ve read parts of your previous comments(they do tend to be long), but why exactly are you against the Iraq war? Is it because you think it’s illegal or immoral? Just asking to better understand. Also, from what I’ve googled, you joined IVAW when stop-lossed and were to be redeployed to Iraq.
I’d love to answer any questions you have, but if you are not going to take the time to read my replies, why should I waste my time?
You ask direct questions, so I am going to give you detailed straight forward answers. Sometimes they can be a little long. But it’s not really worth my time if you are not going to show me mutual respect and read what I have to say.
Aw, come on Casey, enlighten us. Why where you against the war in Iraq? Are you a “Bush lied and people died” type or are you one of those who insist we installed Sadam in power and were at fault for everything Iraq was? Or are you as I suspect a petulant little non-rate who was pissed because he didn’t read his contract, and slept through the class in bootcamp where they explained things like stop loss?
While a pussy who posts as “Anonymous” wants to take pot shots at me there is a lot of people working to counter their protest. Fuck you keyboard ranger.
41 Anon,
I suspect you and you antiwar buddies sit around all day and yell SPLTTERS!!!
Anon@ 41 was mine, posted from a computer I don’t usually use. I apologize for the anon, but not the content.
the anon thing does make it annoying– but casey, dude. I’ve scanned your site, read your posts, I don’t even dis your dislike for the war. But the WHY is a relevant question. I agree with Marine 83 that from the outside looking in it looks as if you got pissed at being StopLossed.
Okay, so you are not going to answer my question. I normally read 100% of your posts or comments, but drop to about 75% when you drone on. You the man though, as I can tell from this sentence of yours in #37. “Furthermore, once I found out more about IVAW I left in grand style and it was quite a blow to their worthless organization.” YatYas, out.
I will read everyone’s reply and reply as soon as I can. After all it’s a Friday night and I just bought DIRTY HARRY and MAGNUM FORCE on Blu-ray, so I am going to enjoy myself.
I will be happy answer all of your questions in full over tomorrow or over the weekend.
Dude…It’s Thursday night, not Friday night… (Like a Friday to me, though – tomorrow my regular day off, he-he.
:-))
Hahahaha, you’re right. I wasn’t drunk or anything, just got my days mixed up.
Ok, why I’m against the war in Iraq…
Because Iraq posed no credible threat to the U.S. and the U.S. Military has only two purposes: KILL PEOPLE and BLOW THINGS UP. While it is nice to help out local children and things, that is not our job. More on that in a bit.
If you are trying to pull some anti-war jibba-jabba out of me, good luck, I have a brain. But did Bush lie? Of course he did! He’s a politician, they all lie. Obama, Bush, Clinton, so on and so on. People get rapped up in this right vs. left crap when really it’s all the same two headed coin. He and his administration lied about weapons of mass destruction. How can I say that? Well, the fact that we found none leads to only two possible outcomes:
1. They did indeed lie.
or
2. Our U.S. Men and Women in uniform are so incompetent they let them get away. (Which I do not think is the case)
The “they snuck them out” theory is a cheap excuse. Long before any one in the public is even wise that they want to go to war against a certain target, we have all our “space toys” looking down on them watch what they do. Plus, we already had a fair number of assets there keeping him on lock down so they would have been ordered to keep an active eye on them had new evidence emerged. There was nothing there. Sure he may want them, but getting them is a whole other story. Just face it, we all got played.
Right after I post this, I will tell you why I am against the war for personal reason in another post.
We lost many people in my unit, and my company on my first deployment. We where on a corner of the “Sunni triangle of death” in 2006. So many readers might know it was not good times for us. Our company had an outpost and patrolled route “Patty” for just about a year. This route runs through a village and was home to a few farmers. It didn’t really serve much purpose to us. It wasn’t a supply line of any note, there really wasn’t a reason for us to be there.
But what sealed the deal for me was when we lost our First Sergeant. After that had happened we where ordered to destroy our outpost ( a series of houses ) and no longer patrol the route. It was a month before our deployment ended. It was an order that came from our division commander. So basically we lost lives and ran up and down a route that was never that important to begin with.
But was that an isolated incident? No, not from Soldiers I talked to on the way home and once we got home. It wasn’t a fluke.
So after coming home I began to speak out against the war. It was at about a year before I was stop-lossed. I did a speaking engagement at the University of Texas at Austin a few times and one of those times their paper “The Daily Texan” did a story on me. I’m not sure how far back the archive online but if you want to do a search, go ahead.
Also, I have stated this before in the public:
“During his first tour, from December 2005 to November 2006, he took footage with no real goal in mind, but when he returned to Texas in November 2006, the filming quickly became part of his anti-war protest.”
That is from a story during my second deployment and that can be found here:
