Teen fires officer’s lost gun that was mistaken for prop at Tysons gaming center
A bizarre set of circumstances led to a 14-year-old girl firing an off-duty police officer’s gun inside a popular gaming center at Tysons Corner earlier this month.
On the afternoon of April 2, a D.C. police captain was at Level99 — a large entertainment center that bills itself as an adult playground with more than 50 physical and mental challenges in themed rooms — when he lost his personal weapon while playing a game, Fairfax County police said.
A teen found the weapon, thought it was a prop and pulled the trigger, investigators said. No one was shot.
“En route for a weapons discharge at 1961 Chain Bridge Road at Tysons Corner,” a dispatcher said. “Off-duty officer from D.C. dropped his gun by accident. Female picked it up and shot it. No one was shot.”
It’s unclear how much time passed from when the officer lost the gun to when the girl found it and fired.
The teenager requested medical assistance, but according to a spokesperson for Fairfax County Fire, she was not taken to a hospital.
Detectives investigated the incident, but no charges have been filed against the officer, who did get his gun back, Fairfax County police said. Police turned over their investigation to the commonwealth’s attorney office for review, but that office declined to file charges, saying the incident did not rise to the level of a crime.
D.C. police said the officer is not facing discipline within the department because he was off duty and the gun was his own.
News4 reached out to Level99 but has not heard back.

Elite Wall Street Law Firm Sullivan & Cromwell Apologizes to Federal Judge for AI Hallucinations in Court Filing
A partner at the prestigious Wall Street law firm Sullivan & Cromwell has issued a formal apology to a federal bankruptcy judge after discovering that a court filing contained numerous fabricated legal citations and other errors generated by AI.
Business Insider reports that a senior partner at Sullivan & Cromwell, sent a letter last week to Chief Judge Martin Glenn in Manhattan acknowledging that a previous filing submitted by the firm contained inaccurate citations and what he described as AI hallucinations. The filing was made on behalf of Prince Global Holdings, the bankrupt firm that Sullivan & Cromwell represented in the case.
In his letter, Andrew Dietderich, co-head of Global Finance & Restructuring for Sullivan & Cromwell, explained the nature of the problem. “‘Hallucinations’ are instances in which artificial intelligence tools fabricate case citations, misquote authorities, or generate non-existent legal sources,” he wrote. “We deeply regret that this has occurred.”
The letter included a chart that detailed the specific problems with the motion. The document contained incorrect case names and numbers, along with quotes that appeared to be completely fabricated rather than taken from actual legal precedents. These errors represented a significant breach of the standards expected in federal court submissions, where accuracy in citing legal authority is fundamental to the judicial process.
The mistakes were not caught internally by Sullivan & Cromwell but were instead identified by attorneys from Boies Schiller Flexner, the law firm representing creditors in the bankruptcy case. Dietderich noted that he had thanked the opposing firm for identifying the errors and offered his apologies for the oversight.
Sullivan & Cromwell, founded 140 years ago, employs more than 1,000 attorneys and ranks among the most prominent law firms on Wall Street. According to Dietderich, the firm maintains comprehensive policies governing the use of artificial intelligence in legal work and has established safeguards specifically designed to prevent exactly this type of error from reaching the courts. However, he acknowledged that these procedures were not followed in this instance, and the firm’s review process for citations also failed to catch the fabricated material before submission.

Houston officer Ashley Gonzalez removed from position following viral racist rant
The Houston Police Officers’ Union called the video of Gonzalez “extremely disturbing,” and said the Houston Police Department is investigating its authenticity.
A Houston police officer has been removed from her position pending investigation by the Houston Police Department after a social media video of a racist, anti-Black rant went viral.
The video of Ashley Gonzalez, a former U.S. Marine Corps member who joined the HPD in 2024, allegedly shows her going on a tirade about Black people where she uses the N-word multiple times, disparages the descendants of slavery, and threatens to put the next Black person who calls 911 in jail.
Gonzalez also appears to describe an altercation she had with a Black person who was attempting to steal from her when she was out with a friend, though it isn’t clear whether she was on or off duty at the time. She recalls grabbing a person by the neck and calling them the N-word.
“Y’all don’t know how good it felt to say [N-Word] out loud. Oh my God, I felt like I was back in the Marine Corps,” she says in one part of the video.
Houston broadcaster KPRC 2 confirmed that Gonzalez served in the Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023 before she joined the police force in 2024. The outlet also reported that she had logged 1,600 hours of coursework for the Houston Police Academy and other law enforcement organizations.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union released a statement saying the organization is extremely disturbed by the video, saying the HPD “prides itself as being the most diverse police department in the nation, largely a product of that collaborative changes to civil service law that the HPOU and the Department have made through our meet and confer process.”
“It is our belief that the Department is diligently working to confirm the authenticity of this video and will take appropriate measures to ensure public confidence and trust between our Department and our community,” the statement said.

DC’s finest, and a Captain at that! Glad DC sees itself as a righteous place where only cops and “special police”, aka security guards, should be able to legally carry. Now, I’m not usually a spiteful person, but as much as I’m a 2A advocate, I’d almost love to see a Virginia that gets its political head on Right again, and where the Commonwealth passes a law prohibiting anyone from contiguous states and districts–including cops and the entitled few who are legally licensed to carry–from carrying. I know, I know, the Law Enforcement Officers’ Safety Act (LEOSA) prevents this, and there are plenty of good people in Maryland and maybe one or two in DC. Hell, I was born in MD myself, but the Eastern Shore is a different beast from the mainland of either MD or VA. If I ever buy land in VA, it’s going to be in the mountains or maybe somewhere my ancestors once owned in Accomack or Northampton counties.
Speaking of the LEOSA, I think that provides some precedent for passing the nationwide CCW reciprocity that’s been talked about for years. I got my LA permit just so I can legally carry when travelling. A few years ago, I vacationed in Miami knowing that if I were pulled over things could get painful. I was good in LA due to constitutional carry, but the second I crossed into MS I was violating the law. I don’t travel north of the Potomac if I can help it. DC and MD are both off their rocker when it comes to outside gun owners.
The ex-cop from Houston seems to have eaten the wrong crayons. Freedom of speech and all that, but despite Mark Dice advocating for the use of it, the “N-word” is strictly off-limits in the vocabulary of anyone outside of their private lives and [maybe] the presence of close friends. Social media is not your friend. Posting “spicy” content–whether it’s socially unacceptable words like you’re mispronouncing the Republic of Niger or OF content, if you’re a public servant, you need to stay offline.
When I was growing up, we didn’t have PC, i pads face book and all the other social media thing that gets peaple in trouble. This is the only site that I’m on to comment with other Vets.
At this time the “N” word is only allowed for use by people of sufficient melanin content. It is openly and all too frequently used by them. Woe be to anyone who is too pale though. The hypocrisy is massive in it’s use.
There is a reason why that word exists and will always exist. Seems to be a self-fulfilling cascade of poor choices in early life.
If Cromell is related to the Ollie Cromwell family, Ollie is turning over in his grave right now.
Looks like the Spanish Army is trying to give the 173rd some competition….
Maybe Ashley should take a short cruise up to Vidor? There are still “law” enforcement opportunities in East Texas, so they say.
