Friday politics

Starting off, everyone remembers the notorious auto-pen, right? Republicans were outraged that the Biden White House supposedly used the auto-pen to affix Biden’s signature onto anything printed. I didn’t hear an accusation of having forged his Secret Decoder Ring application, but did hear everything but.
Federal prosecutors in U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office are dropping a criminal probe into whether former President Joe Biden and his aides unlawfully used an autopen to issue pardons, a person briefed on the matter told CBS News.
Two sources confirmed the existence of the probe, with one telling CBS News that the matter has since been closed because prosecutors were never able to find a legal hook to be able to pursue the matter further. CBS News
I guess if the prevailing law says you can use the auto-pen as needed, nothing limits its use on pardons even if they are for drug dealers and crooked financiers. A cheap shot, that, those were Trump’s pardons. This was launched due to Biden’s alleged senility. Seems nothing illegal can be proved.

Two unlikely Republicans launched on Congress for aiding and abetting the sort of things they typically ignore.
At one point during the hearing, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) filed a motion for a subpoena for information on an alleged “sexual harassment slush fund.” A week earlier, Luna claimed on X/Twitter that Congress has a slush fund that it uses to “pay people off with your tax dollars.”
When Luna was given time to speak, she called out members of Congress for supporting Mace’s motion while refusing to condemn the alleged actions of Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX). Days earlier, text messages were published that appeared to show Gonzales making sexual advances to a staffer. The staffer repeatedly tried to push back against those advances. She later died by suicide.
And why not have Gonzales resign?
While some have called for his resignation, other Republicans have argued against the idea due to the party’s thin majority in the House. Following Tuesday’s election, Gonzales will head into a May runoff.
I know hypocrisy is probably the #2 Cardinal Virtue in politics. Even so, excoriating one party’s people for doing the same thing your party’s folks do – well, if it doesn’t piss you off and make you want to throw them ALL out…. Luna put it best:
I think that’s why the American people hate us! Mediaite
Couldn’t have put it better.
Late update – the bill which engendered all this was a bill that would open Congressional files on those who had been accused of sexual misconduct. The vote was 357-65, which tells you something: Republican AND Democrats can work together, as long as the goal is to cover up their own crimes. There just isn’t enough light to illuminate all those cockroaches, is there?

Noem
And in thinking about stupid political moves, Kristi Noem has been in the hot seat testifying before Congress and HER personal life is front and center. Seems her none-too-discrete affair with Corey Lewandowski has everyone’s attention, and she is not helping herself any.
Allegedly Trump is considering replacing DHS Barbie with Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK). ‘Course, the Republicans have a razor thin majority in the Senate already, so pulling Mullin would not be an especially good idea as their law says an interim Senator can only be appointed until the actual replacement can be elected. With an election only 8 months away?
Those were the opning and ending lines of the original story for tomorrow, a good example of writing something topical early in the day and having reality overtake it by sundown. Noem HAS been fired, Mullin HAS been named her successor.

All Presidents pardon drug dealers. But it is ironic that Trump pardoned JOH for doing exactly what Maduro was doing. Then he has Maduro arrested a month later.
Trump claims set up but I have serious doubts about that.
Who is JOH?
Former Honduran president (2014-2022) Juan Orlando Hernandez.
So much of this kind of crap. Misusing the office, getting laid while in office. Who do they think they are, Bill Clinton???
Just further proof we really need term limits.
I agree, but with foxes running the chicken coop, it’ll never happen.
IDK, I kind of liked Kaboni Savage, the guy none of you have ever heard of. That guy was a 100% legit crime lord, 12 murder convictions ties the Pennsylvania record and that includes both Philly and Pittsburgh. The fact that more than a few were babies and kids and dogs didn’t seem to matter to Biden who commuted his death penalty.
That is just the ones that he was convicted of. There are dozens more that he probably did but they couldn’t prove, including putting out a hit on a guy for stealing a parking space. He makes the fictional Tony Montana look like a sane wuss.
Got nuttin’ on the shenanigans of JFK & LBJ. 🙂 Don’t know how they had the strength to do anything else.
What we need is a legislative body that comes together once a year for a 30 day session. No political parties and just sufficient time to pass minimum necessary legislation, for instance, a budget. This process to start at the end of Trump’s term (or maybe Vance or Rubio), after we get all the corrective actions complete. Members to be appointed in equal numbers from the political parties at state level so it is impossible to “win” by majorities but only in what is of true benefit from a prioritized list. Other than that, they are private citizens, responsible for their own livelihood, and keeping their zippers up.
I do NOT want to hear politicians crying about the ‘Epstein Victims’ anymore since they voted to protect, in my estimation, the same people that used the Congressional Slush Fund to buy the silence of their victims. No calls about a cover-up with Epstein when 365 members voted to cover-up their own transgressions. Nope, Epstein is dead and so is everything else associated with him. At least my Rep voted to release. You can’t do one without the other. Full Stop. End transmission.
