Arctic Frost killed

No, not the storm across the country – although when I see tomorrow’s low increase from 7 to 13 I am mighty pleased with the improvements in the Texas power grid. Arctic Frost is a little more subtle than that.

A Senate GOP-led measure allowing Republicans in the upper chamber to sue the federal government for up to $500,000 if their phone records were seized by ex-special counsel Jack Smith is still causing heartburn in the House.Fox News

The bill that ended the government shutdown included a provision requiring the Justice Department and FBI to notify the Senate when a lawmaker is under investigation and if their personal information is being subpoenaed.  CNN

Does not sound too bad like that – until you look a little closer.  It said that GOP Senators (no one else) were being given the ability to sue our government for a half million EACH in taxpayer money if they have heartache with Smith’s investigation. Half a million. When was the last time anyone here got a windfall like that? And from their own employer’s – the taxpayers’ -pockets?

House lawmakers voted unanimously Thursday to roll back that measure, as an amendment to a $1.2 trillion federal funding package that’s expected to get a vote later in the day.

If the funding package is passed, the Senate will be forced to consider the repeal along with the larger spending bill or else amend it and risk running the clock down on Congress’ Jan. 30 government shutdown deadline.Fox News

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas told Politico that it was Senate Majority Leader John Thune himself who made sure this provision was included in the final bill.)  MS NOW

The repeal measure passed unanimously in the House, which probably makes it the biggest EFF YOO the House has sent to the Senate in years. Unanimously? What else do you remember being unanimous?

Now, the Senate can try to add it back in with a new rider – but anything new will have to go back to the House, which would give the Congresssfolks yet another opportunity. Geez, this is almost getting fun.

I’m looking forward to seeing temps of at least one above zero.

I agree with accountability but raiding the piggy bank to do it is selfish and disgusting. There are a lot of ways to hold people accountable and fix DOJ lawfare prosecutions. Money that doesn’t come from the offenders pocket is meaningless to them.

How about they have the right to sue the individuals responsible, personally??? Now that I could get behind… suckmit deep state!

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal

Yep. I was thinking the same.
If the Kongress Kritters were suing out of Jack Smith’s own personal pockets……double line forms to the right.

Cptsm

How about just prosecution and prison for whoever ordered the wire taps

I for one am tired of the pork train. I applaud the defeat of this silly and one sided provision. Now if “we the people” could sue the individual congress critters and senate moles for invading our privacy and passing bills that exclude themselves, I’d be all for it.

SFC D

Of course it was one sided. Jack Smith only investigated republicans.

“Hi, my name is Jack Smith”

Yeah, sure it is…
