Rabbi pulls out gun, scaring off assailants who assaulted him in attempted carjacking
Khiree Stewart
BALTIMORE —
A rabbi armed with a gun scared off his attackers as they assaulted him and tried to steal his car Saturday night in Northwest Baltimore.City police said officers were called around 9 p.m. Saturday to the 7100 block of Park Heights Avenue, where a 62-year-old man was taking trash out.
Police said two men approached the victim, assaulted him, knocked him to the ground and tried to steal his car. When the assailants couldn’t start the car, they tried to again assault the victim, who drew a gun and pointed it at them. The assailants ran off.
Police said the victim has a valid handgun permit and was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Baltimore City Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, D-District 5, told 11 News that he spoke with the victim shortly after the attack.
“Just the brazenness of the incident, where they have no problem going and attacking, you know, an older person, somebody clearly who’s a person of faith — he was still dressed in in all of his attire coming from synagogue — and so, it’s really very upsetting,” Schleifer told 11 News.

2 shot in incident at Dollar General store in Prichard
By Mike Brantley
PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office is being asked to weigh in on a case in which two people were shot inside a Dollar General store in Prichard over the weekend. The Prichard Police Department and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene Sunday morning at 1645 St. Stephens Road.
Witnesses, store employees and the shooter were on the scene and were questioned about the shooting, according to officials.
After interviewing the witnesses and reviewing surveillance video footage, the MCSO said its investigation revealed that Teron Curtis, 45, entered the store shortly before 8 a.m. and purchased items before leaving. Curtis returned at 9:15 a.m. and was angry and threatened the cashier, stating she did not give him what he purchased, the MCSO said.
Investigators said he stated he would bring his girlfriend back to handle the problem.
According to the MCSO, the store cashier then called a family member and stated she had been threatened. The sheriff’s office said the cashier’s family member went to the store.
The MCSO also said Curtis and his girlfriend, Lakenya Russell, 39, then arrived at the store and attacked the cashier as well as the cashier’s family member. During the altercation, the investigators said, the family member shot Curtis and Russell.
Surveillance video shows the altercation occurred as described by witnesses, the MCSO said.
Curtis and Russel both fled the scene and drove themselves to a local hospital, officials said, and the shooter placed her gun down and remained on scene until police arrived.
