B-52s Fly Across Middle East, Drop Live Munitions

Two U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratrofortress bombers flew over the Middle East in a “force projection” demonstration Feb. 17, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced.
The two B-52s began their mission at RAF Fairford, U.K., before flying across Europe and through the airspace of nine partner nations, according to CENTCOM. The command did not specify which nations those were, a common practice given regional tensions and sensitivities.The B-52 mission also included “live munitions drops at ranges in several partner nations,” the command said in a news release. The B-52s flew with American F-15E Strike Eagles, which are based in the Middle East, and “four partner nations provided fighter escorts for the bombers throughout the mission,” CENTCOM said. Again, those partner nations were not publicly identified.
“Bomber Task Force missions demonstrate U.S. power projection capability, commitment to regional security, and ability to respond to any state or non-state actor seeking to broaden or escalate conflict in the CENTCOM region,” Army Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, CENTCOM’s commander, said in a statement.
The intended audience of this little display very recently had pretty much their entire air defense system destroyed by Israel. The unsaid threat- these are the ones we let you see. Sleep tight Mullahs.

A little more backstory.
Monday a Bi-partisan congressional led by Lindsey Graham was calling for strikes against Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure jointly with Israel. Then the little joint display from the US.
If they followed their standard playbook the IRGC should have moved their important pieces in a hurry when the B52s took off from Fairford after the infiltrators there informed them they might be on the way.
The Israelis should have been watching and now know where to hit them.

I’d rather have heard the “…live munitions…” were dropped on “live” targets. Spending the same amount of $ but with a more positive result. Just another day at the office for the BUFF Crews. Anybody else in the world have an Aerial Artillery Platform that’s pert near 70 years old…that still works?

Quick anecdote about offset aiming points. There o was, a BCT S3 putting together a firepower coordination exercise. My boss says he wants B52s. We get B52s. Turns out when they show up, they release a string of 4 500 Lb bombs over the town of Hinesville and momentum carries them forward to where they actually hit the Fort Stewart impact area. (Not a surprise, but a bit surreal.)
On a separate note, it takes something like 8 minutes to turn them around and do a reattack although well worth the wait to see the view.

I believe the B-58 “lob toss” range was about 20 miles? Pitch up and climb 20 miles away, let the bomb go, then run like hell at Mach 2 while the bomb coasted up…and down…to where it eventually exploded.
Ukrainians are doing that.
