Tennessee man arrested after shooting at family sledding in the snow, deputies say
A Tennessee man is facing charges after he allegedly opened fire on a family that was sledding in the snow, purporting that the family was on his property.
Benjamin Cook is facing six counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Additional charges could be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive on Friday following a report that a man was shooting at a family of six playing outside in the snow.
Preliminary information from the scene showed that the parents and their four children walked down the street to go sledding down a hill in their neighborhood, deputies said.
But at around 11:30 a.m., the family said they heard gunshots coming from the direction of a house down the hill near the 10400 block of Birchwood Pike. The mother said she observed snow fly up from the ground just a couple of feet from her one-year-old son.
The parents immediately looked in the direction of where the shots were coming from and yelled at a man, later identified as Cook, to stop shooting. The man claimed the family was on his property, but the family responded that they were not on his property.
The family then gathered their belongings and went home before reporting the incident to authorities.
Deputies responded to the shooter’s house and spoke to Cook. They also obtained pictures from a neighbor showing Cook in matching clothing walking through the woods carrying a black rifle slung across his back.
Cook was then arrested on aggravated assault charges.
An investigation also revealed that the family was not on Cook’s property when he began shooting.
A search warrant was executed at Cook’s home, where several rifles were found inside.

Man pointing replica gun at cars shot by Dallas police
Dallas police released more information and body camera video of officers shooting a man who was waiving what turned out to be a replica gun at people in Far East Dallas.
Dallas police say they received six 911 calls on the afternoon of Jan. 7 for a man pointing a gun at vehicles on Joaquin Drive, east of White Rock Lake and about a block away from Casa View Elementary.
When police arrived at the scene, officers say they saw 52-year-old Michael Alonzo pointing the gun at a person inside a car.
In body camera video, you can hear officers telling Alonzo to drop the gun in both English and Spanish.
Officer Nathaniel Cairns can be heard saying, “He’s pointing it” before shots are fired by both Officer Cairns and Juan Lopez-Navarro.
Alonzo was hit and taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Police say the gun Alonzo was holding was a replica handgun, a Crosman revolver CO2 air pistol.
Alonzo will be charged with three counts of deadly conduct. More charges could be released.
No officers were injured in the shooting.

Florida woman arrested with drugs in bag labeled ‘Definitely Not A Bag Full Of Drugs’, deputies say
A Central Florida woman was arrested over the weekend on drug possession charges for the second time this month, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
During her most recent arrest, she was caught carrying drugs in a bag with the words “Definitely Not A Bag Full Of Drugs” printed on it.
Teryn Acri, 31, of Melbourne, was booked into the Brevard County jail on Saturday on several drug-related charges including trafficking in meth, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies arrested Acri after pulling over a vehicle in which she was a passenger. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, asserting that nothing illegal should be inside.
However, deputies discovered that Acri had several bags with her, one of which with the label “Definitely Not A Bag Full Of Drugs.”
Among her belongings – including the ironically labeled bag – deputies discovered methamphetamine, needles, Narcan, digital scales, small baggies, cut straws, and other drug-related items.
This arrest came nearly two weeks after Acri was detained during another traffic stop on similar charges.
Acri is currently being held in jail without bond.

Teacher arrested after cocaine found in 6th grade classroom, authorities say
Tennessee authorities say a teacher has been arrested after cocaine was found in her classroom.
According to the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Department, sixth grade teacher Mia King is facing charges after deputies found two baggies of cocaine in her open purse which was inside a closet next to her desk.
A scooping object and a rolled-up $5 bill were also found covered in white powdery residue, an affidavit stated.
Deputies said King was being held by a school resource officer in the principal’s office and was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of narcotics while they searched her classroom at Cheatham County Middle School.
King reportedly began crying and asked for an attorney when deputies told her what they had found.
King had been an English teacher at the school since 2023.
The school district reported her personnel file listed no prior issues, but she was terminated on Monday following the incident.
“The safety and well-being of our students is one of our top priorities, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students,” a county schools spokesperson said. “We are fully cooperating with the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office.”
King was booked into the Cheatham County Jail.

About 60 years ago, when I was a kid, the next door neighbor was upset because he wanted the property my folks bought. As a result he called the cops every time I was playing outside in our lot. Once I was shooting a toy rifle complete with ricochet sound and the cops came by. They ended up playing with my rifle for about 5 minutes before telling the neighbor to pound sand.
I was smart enough to NOT point it at the cops but it was also a different time then.
Today, that would bring a no-nock early morning SWAT raid on your house for felony child neglect. Your neighbor being the heroic “Karen,” of course.
Flori-DUH again…
And the teacher.. it’s always the neon colored hair.. you’d think people would by now catch the warning signs..
In nature, poisonous animals advertise their toxicity by showing bright colors, I wonder if the neon hair isn’t a carryover from that?
“a rolled-up $5 bill”
Cheap bitch.
Dude—teacher.
Are you saying that Mia is a he-a?
Because I could see it…
It looks like Cooks goose is cooked after shooting at the sleding family
Teryn Acri sounds like she has that All-Points Logistics quality.
As does Mia King. I could see her and Phil Monkress doing a few lines in his office as told her about his Navy SEAL days.
This comment is ‘Definitely Not A Bag Full Of Contempt For Idiocy’.
These people are the reason we can’t have nice things and I’m done suffering the loss of Liberty.
That being said, the teacher shouldn’t have aughta but I can see how education has failed since the lounges were unstocked of booze and TWI (Teaching While Intoxicated) laws enacted.
It’s time to go back to rule sets that worked gooder.
