By Rose Johnson
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Wendy’s manager fired her gun inside the restaurant after a burglar broke in on Monday morning.Officers responded to the shots fire call just after 2:00 a.m. at the Wendy’s on 6260 Winchester Road.
Officers spoke with the store manager who said she was in her office at the back of the store when she heard glass breaking from the front of the store.
She immediately closed and locked the office door, and a few seconds later, she heard a suspect near her office door.
She said that’s when she took out her Glock and shot once through the office door, according to police.
The manager checked security footage and saw a suspect wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, grey shoes, a black full-face mask, and black gloves, armed with a hammer, breaking the drive-through glass and climbing in.
The suspect walked towards the back of the restaurant towards the office before climbing on the countertop where the sink is located and began disabling the alarm system by pulling on wires, according to police.
That was around the time the store manager fired one shot through the door of the office.
The suspect was then seen getting off the counter and returning to the drive-through window before running away.

The Wendy’s perp suddenly remembered he had more important business elsewhere. Without ventilation.
I wonder what the Wendy’s upper management will say about a local manager defending company property with a gun? And shooting holes in company property?
At least, there were no (paying) customers at 2am.
Welp…the dood did learn NOT to take a hammer to a gunfight so there is that. Lucky he didn’t become the meat on the slab.
Imma gonna go out on a limb here and say there is more to the Tampa lads’ story. Argument over a choir robe? Who was in line for Class President?
There may and/or may not be a Charter Snubby around here someplace for this good man to deal with some evil.
MRS D has the Charter Arms Pink Lady. She absolutely loved it… right up till the time she fired my 1911. And just like that, another disciple was created…
Just another reason why she is a keeper.
I like its big brother, the .44 Special Bulldog. Soft cast lead hollowpoints make for an awesome load.
The manager will probably have to pay for the door replacement herself, since insurance doesn’t cover lawful discharge of firearms within the store. The window and security alarm will be replaced because that was just vandalism!
I’m not a fan of a blind shot through a door but there’s no question it was effective. Given it was 0200ish, the store was closed and therefore no one but the manager and the bad guy was in the store, it wasn’t a reckless shot.
She doesn’t have to deal with having shot the perp, and the videos may give the LEOs sufficient to find him.
Teen hormones are a dangerous thing. Deciding to break into another persons home is not a good thing. Possibly the perp will learn not to do that in the future. Hopefully the defender gets some range time to ensure future perps, should there be any, won’t do that any more.
Wearing a full face mask, gloves and dressed in the usual ‘hood garments, I doubt there is any real evidence to go on unless he left the hammer behind and had handled it bare handed before or he cut himself on the broken window.
A good man did stop evil in New York, and they are trying to crucify him for it.
