Taking Pete Hegseth’s book, An American Crusade, out of context
Jason Wilson, a journalist for The Guardian, penned an article taking Pete Hegseth’s “An American Crusade” out of context. In the book, Hegseth identifies strategies, protected by the First Amendment, to take on the left’s propaganda messaging and actions. He also highlighted some “worst-case scenarios” but otherwise advocated actions consistent with what many groups have already done. For example, parents taking on school boards regarding what was being taught to their children. However, Wilson’s article hints of something more sinister and “illegal.”
From The Guardian:
At various points in that book, he describes leftists, progressives and Democrats as “enemies” of freedom, the US constitution and America, and counts Israel among the “international allies” who can help defeat such “domestic enemies”.
Addressing his conservative audience in a chapter of American Crusade entitled Make the Crusade Great Again, he writes: “Whether you like it or not, you are an ‘infidel’ — an unbeliever — according to the false religion of leftism.” He added: “You can submit now or later; or you can fight.”
Later in the book, he writes: “Build the wall. Raise tariffs. Learn English. Buy American. Fight back.”
Elsewhere in American Crusade, he writes: “The hour is late for America. Beyond political success, her fate relies on exorcising the leftist specter dominating education, religion, and culture — a 360-degree holy war for the righteous cause of human freedom.”
In fighting, Hegseth wrote: “Our weapon is American nationalism,” adding: “The Left has tried … to intimidate us into thinking that nationalism is a relic of a bygone era.”
Hegseth has followed his own advice in this respect: his tattoos include the words “We the People”, quoted from the constitution, and a “stylized American flag with its bottom stripe replaced by an AR-15 assault rifle” according to Snopes.com reporting.
In relation to the media, “almost all” politicians and credentialled experts, Hegseth advises readers to “Disdain, despise, detest, distrust — pick your d-words. But all of this must lead to action.”
Some actions he recommends resemble forms of disruption and harassment that Trump-aligned activists have brought to nonpartisan local government bodies.
Hegseth tells readers: “The next time conservative views are squelched in your local school, host a free-speech sit-in in your kids’ school lobby and make your case,” and “When local businesses declare ‘gun free zones,’ remember the Second Amendment, carry your legally owned firearm, and dare them to tell you it’s not allowed.”

And? So? What’s Mr Wilson’s point (besides the one on top of his head)?
Reading through that, it all sounded very reasonable, even laudable, to me.
But I forget myself. I’m not a communist leftist LibTurd DildoCrat. I don’t stand on my head in the rain, and then complain that it’s Trump’s fault that I’m drowning.
HEY MR WILSON!! (any of you old enough will remember that familiar greeting of a tow-headed child to his retired neighbor)
You forget, civil disobedience and dissent are only OK if you’re on the left. If you’re on the right, it’s insurrection.
DISSENT IS PATRIOTISM only when it’s done by lefties.
And how do you think this country was founded? It wasn’t by playing patty-cake with Georgie III.
You hungry, Mr. Wilson? Here ya go…snack on this bag of d*cks. The useful idiots never realize that they are useful idiots until it is too late. Being on the last train to the Gulag still gets you to the Gulag.
Didn’t read the book so I will limit to what is here.
He is correct, the left is an enemy of freedom. Unless freedom to you means no accountability for your actions, unlimited access to abortion and sitting around in your mom’s basement in a mumu smoking weed all day while on line gaming. You also have to be willing to support a government so large that it will soak up half your income in direct and indirect taxes if you make money and full reliance on a government handout if you don’t.
I’d be careful relying too much on Constitutional Carry in regard to that vs property rights of business owners. In some jurisdictions the business is allowed to make their own call on who carries on their property or not. Unless you have unlimited funds to fight it to the Supreme Court you will end up in a cell.
The left wing media is the one responsible for undermining authoritative sources by constantly publishing lies such as the HB laptop memo. That and the lawfare that the left has engaged in over the last 17 years from Ted Stevens to today.
Liberals will always spin and twist things to try and get people over to their side because they have NO true facts or logic at all.
This guy gets his information from the Southern Poverty Law Center and writes freelance “investigative” pieces for other leftist “media” organizations like Alternet and The Atlantic.
That tells me all I need to know about him.
Who gives a rats-ass what he thinks or writes?
Seems like he was also “educated” at someplace like UC Berserkely!
He likely has all the same belief system as our own beloved moonbat.
Being that he writes exclusively about the “right wing”, you’re not far off.
“Feelings” over “facts” is what drives these morons.
He’s an Australian transplant living in Portland (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
Not sure where he received his
educationindoctrination, but your guess that he received it from a liberal college is probably spot on.“Liberal” colleges and universities are no longer just liberal. They are run be administrators that are socialists and their faculties are overwhelmingly Marxist.
