Louie Malone McGowin; phony SEAL in Indiana

| April 29, 2014

Louie McGowin

MCPO Ret. In TN sends us his work on Louie Malone McGowin who was arrested for scamming a 71-year-old woman in Ocala, Florida. This is a wierd story, because I don’t know what this woman was thinking when she started dating a guy she met at a veterans’ homeless shelter.

The woman told detectives McGowin said he was a Navy Seal and was close friends with a Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent. He told her he was supposed to be hired at an auto repair shop but did not get the job because her son had talked with the manager. She said McGowin said her son had cost him a $60,000 a year job so she needed to give him that money and, if she didn’t, she would be arrested by his friend with the FDLE, reports note.

Well, needless to say, he wasn’t a SEAL;

Louie Malone McGowin FOIA

Now, I’m certain that this woman didn’t deserved to be scammed like McGowin did, but she certainly didn’t do much to prevent it, either.

7 1/2 years almost 8 and he’s an E-2?
Yeah, low speed high drag there…..
Just like a giant cheese eater we all know.

Nicki

It’s like you read my mind. That was my first reaction too.

Another BLOBFISH, only this one sports a goatee in its mug shot!!

ChipNASA

“Why the long face?”….
😀 😀 😀

Hondo

I swear, the next time I visit Florida I’m drinking nothing but bottled water, coffee, and beer. And I’m making the coffee myself, using bottled water.

There must be something in the drinking water in that state.

rb325th

No kidding… I am going there in November for a Cruise, bringing my own drinks with me dammit.

Valkyrie

There “might” be something in the Florida water that makes you a little bit crazy, but not a liar. I think the lying comes from moving here before retirement. Haha!

Green Thumb

Word.

Mr. Blue

It has to be the warm weather- all the loons and crazies tend to head south for the winter.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Quanico, VA is code word for Brig and/or Courts Marshal at Naval Distrct Washington.

Yoeman Seaman Recruit upon discharge = Certified Sh!T Bag Extra Toppings!

Discharged at Quantico, VA … yep Brig Rat!

Now, he’s parlaying his military jail experience into a civilian jail experience. 😀 I don’t think he understood what they meant when they told him that he could use his military experience outside the military.

MGySgtRet

He is taking full advantage of his “veterans” benefits….

Hondo

Was wondering if that might be the case. When did Quantico become the main brig for the east coast, MCPO? I thought NavSta Norfolk used to have that.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Nope … Quantico, VA is main Brig on east coast … particularly for all cases being heard at Navy Yard. Most big cases go to Navy Yard.

Hondo

OK, thanks for the correction. Always good to learn.

Any relationship to a David Cooper? 😮 Louie Malone McGowin may never have served as a Navy SEAL, but at least he could say that he served as a jailbird. 😀

RM3(SS)

YNSR is an E-1. wonder what other errors there are on that FOIA.

rgr1480

Well …. no NDSM. He should have at least that, right? Do service members still have all medals and awards revoked? I’m aware that skill qualification badges such as the Ranger Tab and SF Tab can be revoked … what about the NDSM?

RLTW

Hondo

rgr1480: negative on the NDSM. Vietnam Era NDSM period closed 14 Aug 1974. Desert Shield/Storm NDSM period opened 2 Aug 1990. This guy managed to serve 100% of his time in uniform during a period when the NDSM wasn’t awarded.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Geeze us Christ Hondo … you are like the Wiki of all things Military!

That would have taken me like a half day to figure out!

Hondo

You tend to remember just missing stuff, MCPO. Like the Vietnam era NDSM. And getting stuck with VEAP vice the Vietnam era GI-bill.

Sh!t happens.

Old Trooper

I’m with ya on the VEAP shit!

Open Channel D

I’m not sure he rates a NDSM. I enlisted in June 1975 and missed the Vietnam Era one by about a month. I got commissioned in 1988 and don’t recall getting one then either. I could check the dates, but I’m retired and don’t give a shit.

Hondo

I was wondering if that was correct, RM3(SS). Thanks.

Now, tell the truth. You Navy guys use those crazy rate abbreviations just to keep the rest of us confused, don’t you? (smile)

RM3(SS)

LOL @Hondo. Shoot, Navy ratings are EASY compared to all the tabs, patches and other assorted bling the Army uses. Ropes, ribbons on both sides, right shoulder left shoulder, most with velcro. I see an Army uniform and think, “wow, pretty!”

Hondo

Yeah, but you can look at the rank on an Army, USAF, or USMC uniform and know what to call the guy/gal. For Navy enlisted, I need to use a freaking one-time pad just to figure out how to write down or interpret their rate abbreviation! (smile)

Seriously – every service has its quirks. Your service is just the only one that does it with rank/rate abbreviations.

2/17 Air Cav

I’m with you on that, Hondo. I wouldn’t call them quirks, though. I’d say it is institutionalized insanity.

LebbenB

“One time pad” I haven’t heard that term in ages.

Reaperman

Clearly that error happened when the SEALS secret-squirreled his records up. (or not…) Actually, you’d think that as a junior YN, it would have been HIS job to maintain service records.

Atkron

PN (Personel Men) were the rating that handled Service Records. Yeoman are like secretaries, I’m sorry…Administrative Assistants for the Zeros.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

This is a clear error on the form.

YNSR, E-1, upon release from Brig and discharge!

LebbenB

Honestly, this sounds like the set up to some shitty, direct to DVD/Blueray screwball comedy.

Don Shipley’s pompadour should beat the snot out of this guy and be done with it.

Pinto Nag

You actually said Don Shipley wears a POMPADOUR?!

Damn, dude. Angels, fear to tread, all of that and more.

LebbenB

It looks like a pompadour. If it’s not a pompadour, then what’s the proper nomenclature of his hair?

Pinto Nag

It could easily BE a pompadour. And it does look like one. I was giving YOU a hard time.

This is what I get for being serious most of the time and then trying to be funny. It falls flatter than my pancakes. :/

You may disregard my comments.

LebbenB

I was being intentionally obtuse.

MrBill

“Authorities said McGowin has more than a dozen felony convictions against him in Florida and Georgia, a substantial number of which are fraud related.”

If Florida has a three-strikes-and-you’re-out law, it’s time to use it on this guy.

HS Sophomore

Word on the street is that he and Monkress will gay marry each other next week with Paul Wickre as bridesmaid.

MGySgtRet.

The big problem with that will occur when they get in a fight over who gets to be the bride. Wickre will most likely be miffed that he does not get to be the pretty one…..

Green Thumb

He will sue to get his way.

MGySgtRet.

I hope that Fecal Frank Visconi and Bernasty are his attorney’s of record.

Green Thumb

Frankenturd and Bernasty.

Rough.

A Proud Infidel®™

Wickre would threaten to sue as soon as he was told he couldn’t wear his favorite spandex to the occasion!

NavCWORet

As a YN with over 7 years, he should have been AT LEAST an E5, eligible for E6. Leaving as either E-1/E2 definately means a bust.

Combat Historian

A fucking shitbird…

Atkron

Maybe the rats in Prison will eat those melanomas off his ugly mug.

Atkron

Exactly the reference I was thinking of.

Atkron

Why is Court martial results redacted from these FOIA forms, yet the Navy now publishes (monthly) the names of Sailors convicted?

Green Thumb

This story sounds a lot like Phildo’s MO.

Picking up random dudes at homeless shelters for a “drive around the block”.

But since he will not be driving, legally of course, any time soon our taxpayer dollars will do to his transportation costs.

A Proud Infidel®™

I wonder if he exited with a DD or a Big Chicken Dinner?
