Paul Schroeder, that PTSD counselor, updates
Apparently, Paul Schroeder, the numbnuts PTSD counselor we discussed last week has become national news. Fox News says that he told his clients that he still had nightmares of the time he had shoot a machete-wielding child during one of his secret missions to Rwanda. Yeah, everyone is always talking about their secret missions in a group setting;
His admission, according to the Houston Chronicle, raises concerns about vetting procedures at PTSD Foundation of America, the faith-based nonprofit for veterans in Houston where Schroeder had worked as director of counseling since 2010.
Tax records show PTSD Foundation has been in the hole for at least three years and is carrying more than $200,000 in debt, the paper reports.
The Chronicle first questioned Schroeder’s record after interviewing him almost a year ago. He said at the time that he served three combat tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, as well as secret missions in Africa and Central and South America.
The newspaper asked to see his discharge papers, but he never produced them. When pressed again this month, he said they were top secret.
It took them a year to figure out that discharge documents (DD214s) aren’t secret? How would we ever be able to prove we were discharged if we could only show the documentation to someone with a clearance? Think people.
And shame on the PTSD Foundation for not recognizing Schroeder as a phony the first time he started talking about secret missions to Africa. His discharge was secret but his missions weren’t? FFS.

Wow, really? I mean, I’ve got a couple of medals on my DD-214 that I can’t say how I got them, but it doesn’t make the document classified. That’s about as stupid as the “Do Not Disseminate” warning in the Army Smart Books and then giving one out to every swinging Joe (and Jill, don’t want to be sexist) in BCT.
If the ‘secret missions’ and ‘my documents are classified’ don’t set off the BS warning sirens, I don’t know what does!? Any ‘real’ veteran, that I know, hasn’t had a problem telling me where they went or which outfit they were with or what their MOS was. I know I don’t have a problem doing that, not that I went anywhere or did anything!?
It’s simple–I’ve got a couple of unit awards and Squadron/SUBPAC LOC’s in my record. If anyone points to it and asks, “What that for?” I can simply say I was on the boat when it was awarded.
Nothing more need be said, and that’s usually good enough for those who weren’t there.

Yeah… Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, Iraq Campaign Medal, and GWOT [i]SERVICE[/i] Medal. No GWOT Expeditionary Medal. I had the Expeditionary, but it was DD-215ed off.
Try explaining that one.
NHSparky: guess that’s an example of those inter-service differences. In the Army, such stories always started, “No shit, there I was . . . .” (smile)
Flagwaver: Sounds like you served in Iraq primarily or exclusively after 28 Feb 2005 and your personnel folks originally awarded you the GWOTEM in error. But depending on precisely when and how many tours you served in Iraq, it’s possible you may have the option of which to wear – or may be qualified for both. Provided you get the paperwork fixed, of course.
If you served a tour in Iraq for 30 days consecutive/60 days nonconsecutive between March 19, 2003 and Feb. 28, 2005, you are qualified for EITHER the GWOTEM or the ICM for that tour. (If a tour is “split” between the two periods with qualifying service both before and after 28 Feb 2005, you only get one or the other for that tour – not both.) If your qualifying service was after 28 Feb 2005, you can only get the ICM.
When I was in Iraq in 2007-2008, if I recall correctly my NCOIC was qualified for the GWOTEM for his first tour in Iraq (pre Feb 2005). He qualified for the ICM for the 2007-2008 tour, and therefore could wear both for service in Iraq.
60 days non-consecutive. And they ended April of 2005 when I came off my orders, but were spread over a year and a half. Trust me, my paperwork is all jacked up. Hell, they kept giving me combat pay even though I had been home for three months, then took it all back at state level and didn’t bother to tell the IRS… That kinda sorta sucked a mule spigot.
Schroeder has lawyered up and is hiding from the law. Come clean loser!!! Did everyone check out his on line Military Fellowship Ministry and his counseling services for sex addiction? Unreal. This guy has a 12th grade education. Hey Schroeder whats the deal with your Silver Star license plates? The PTSD Foundation is a scam and continues to prey upon soldiers and Marines in need of real help. They still support Schroeder and are withholding the truth. Schroeder never helped a soul he just convinced everyone at the Foundation that he did.
Flagwaver: if your qualifying service ended after 28 Feb 2005, then you get the ICM for that tour – no option – and your unit messed up originally in giving you the GWOTEM. You have to have enough qualifying service as of 28 Feb 2005 to be eligible for the GWOTEM for service in Iraq or Afghanistan. In their defense, it was a changed situation and under those conditions mistakes sometimes happen. At least they fixed it properly.
No excuse for the financial FUBAR, but yeah – such happens sometimes. I once got paid twice for the same period (long story). I returned the check for the second payment uncashed, but DFAS never told the IRS that either – and then DFAS initially told me they wanted the full amount back, including income/SSA/Medicare/state taxes they’d withheld. Took me nearly a year to get that all sorted out and fixed.
