Another Toys for Tots phony

| December 11, 2011

Derek Walls told everyone he was a Marine Corps colonel for years while he ran his paintball range and volunteered in the local annual Toys for Tots drive. Then he was arrested for raping a 16-year-old employee at his tanning salon. The local prosecutor dropped the charges for a lack of evidence and Walls asked the Florida Today newspaper to write about the good he’d done in his community and not the allegations against him.

The Florida Today staff did what they were supposed to do and checked his military records. Turns out he spent a few months in the Marine Corps and was discharged a Private First Class back in 1988 – but that’s almost like a colonel, right?

t. Col. Michael Powell, deputy director of the Marine Corps’ Assistance & Investigations Division, told FLORIDA TODAY in an email that he “cannot confirm or deny any other action on this case.”

In his interview with FLORIDA TODAY, Walls would not discuss whether lying during the past two decades was necessary to contribute to his community and would not delve further into his military record.

“There are certain things Marines don’t want to discuss,” he said when FLORIDA TODAY pressed for further explanation. “Some things are better left not talked about.”

Yeah, well, in a conversation on Facebook with his rape victim, he told her was dying within a few months of a “mutant strain of the Gulf War syndrome”. It looks like he should have clammed up long before the interview with some journalists who commendably did their jobs.

Thanks to Brian for the link.

The rape case was characterized as a he said-she said by the prosecutor. Yes, that’s the way many cases are. Then, after examination and cross examination, the judge or jury gets to decide who is credible and who is not. Among other things mentioned by the FL paper regarding the rape accusation by the 16-year-old is that Facebook messages from Dirtball Walls include, “I love you very much!” Yes, that’s the way most 40-something-year-old men talk to 16-year-old girls on Facebook, isn’t it? His Feb-August 1988 military service was prematurely ended owing to a “personality disorder.” Do tell.

And really, shouldn’t they have done the math? 40 years old means he would have had 18-19 years commissioned service, at MOST. Not a whole lot of guys in Navy or Marines make O-6 under 22-24 years. And to have been doing it “for years”? More bullshit.

I’m looking forward to the first of Kernel Walls defenders’ arriving here to speak up for him. They are out there. It seems some people don’t mind his lies because of some of the good things he has done. But then I recall that there was a serial killer down in Florida too some years ago who was adored by many females. Sick stuff.

Doc Bailey

what a real winner. Raped a 16 YO, and lied about his service. Please tell me why this SOB isn’t in jail?

He was accused of rape by a 16 yr old, Doc, and arrested. He was released and not prosecuted when the prosecutor concluded that w/o additional evidence, the case amounted to she accuses/he denies. After the complaint was lodged by the girl, police recorded his contacts with her. That’s where they got the declaration of love by him to her. He also allowed that he made some mistakes but he never made an outright admission and the case was quashed. There is scant info in the story about the case but something just isn’t right.

Stubby

I know that many people want to give someone who says they are a veteran the benefit of the doubt but it pays to verify. I don’t care how much “good” they have done, a rapist and a phoney are just that, a rapist and a phoney despite their military service. It’s douche bags like this that cause every newspaper headline to read “Veteran Does ….” reguardless of how long ago they served or how poorly they served. Courts should turn these guys over to a jury of their military peers for sentencing and punishment. That would be JUST.

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

This shitbird said “There are some things Marines don’t like to discuss” in connection with his service records.

Well, yeah. We really don’t like to discuss the odd shitbird that manages to squeak through boot camp.

Flagwaver

I wonder what he was discharged for? “Personality disorder” isn’t exactly something the USMC shitcans people for.

Here’s a link to the original article by Mr. Walls local papaer: http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20111211/NEWS01/312110042/Toys-Tots-coordinator-admits-embellishing-military-past

You should comments about this article. I wrote about what a disgrace this shitbird is to the Marine uniform and out of the woodwork crawled all the little kiddy soldiers that were part of his Search and Rescue “Force”.

This guy is dangerous. I hope the real Marines at the Toys for Tots cut their ties with him.

Just an Old Dog

@9 “Personality Disorder” is basically a general term used for someone who has a few screws loose. Apparently he was bi-polar or some other crap (just speculating). From what it sounds like he must have came into the Corps with a few screws loose, and it wasn’t really discovered until after boot camp. If he had been traumatized or suffered mental illness from something in the service he would have gotten a medical discharge with VA bennies.
