Canton Patch: How to Verify Military Claims
Our buddy, Peg McNichol at the Canton Patch wrote an excellent article today about how we “outed” phony SF Major, Ray Schepansky, the gun-toting, Kia-driving Detroit area teacher and why checking outlandish claims of military service is so important;
Military records should be checked, he said for two reasons: an employer’s responsibility to provide a safe workplace and because “it is a previous employer—you have to validate that information,” Pachuta said, recalling a case his company investigated about a man who claimed to be a chef for the state of Michigan—and in fact, he was, but left out one small detail: He was in prison at the time.
People who lie about their military service are usually guilty of some other sort of malfeasance as well. For example, Jason “Gunny” Bush who claimed a military career, but ended up being just another career criminal and talked an anti-immigration group into participating in a home invasion and murder in Arizona.
Thanks to Peg for mentioning us along with other stellar members of the Stolen Valor community, many of whom I count among my friends these days.

Memo to those who think Jonn and the others here are just a bunch of bullies or “piling on” when outing phonies:
There’s usually more to them just claiming to be a high-speed, low-drag SEAL, PJ, officer, MOH recipient, etc. Fraud usually being high on the list, but there are other reasons, some more sinister than just trying to scam a few bucks.
So before you come in here and claim the folks here are being mean, that nobody’s being hurt, etc., consider the deeper issues.
Let’s consider the deeper issues NHSparky. How about the vets who scam the VA by upping their disability over BS claims like sleep apnea, tenitus, or PTSD when they never LD’ed from Kuwait. You know damn well that some vets that deployed from the states only changed dining facilities but they collect a disability rating for PTSD. Don’t think I’m finished with you yet asshole. The VA is one big bureaucracy and all vets receive benefits from it. These BS claims are hurting the vets that are messup with missing body parts, burnt bodies, and other disorders from IED’s. These claims are going to kill us in the long run when Shiniski has to keep going to congress begging for more money. I bet you did your sleep study when you got out taking the time away from a doctor who could have been treating a patient worst off than you. How’s my spelling now jackass!
