Karl Eikenberry is a dick

| April 14, 2010

Many of you know that Karl Eikenberry, our current ambassador to Afghanistan was once my platoon leader in Battle Company of the 1st Ranger Battalion back in 1975 and the only comment I’ve ever made in reference to him is that he’s a dick. Well, someone in a position to know has reinforced my opinion with some inside information from the embassy.

Eikenberry has a policy in place which he calls “Green Water”. Basically, it means that everyone in the Embassy has to drink local water instead of bottled water. Well, everyone except Eikenberry himself who gets his bottled water flown in occasionally – but enough so that he doesn’t have to drink the local water.

He has another policy that forbids anyone from carrying their weapon in the Embassy except the Marine guards when they’re on duty and his own protection detail.

So you can see that leading from the front by example is something with which he’s not too familiar. Like I said, he’s a dick.

If Ranger School and time in the Ranger Battalions didn’t teach this guy anything, he’s more than a dick. He is a rock. I hate this kind of guy.

I was in B-2/75 1975-77, we had some great officers, but we also had some dicks.

Operator Dan

This is absolutely ridiculous. Is he trying to kill his staff? Does he want them to have the shits for their entire deployment?

If my PL, Company CO, or BC would have told me I couldn’t drink bottled water in Iraq and instead had to drink ass water out of the Euphrates, I would said some things that would have gotten my ass thrown in the brig. Fuck this guy, Jonn I’m sorry you had to serve with this asshole.

Susan

So Jonn, tell us what you really think!!!

Sounds like this guy was always a politician, and that any military in him has been killed off by a bad case of I-am-the-most-importantitis.

Ahhh, Afghanistan, fond memories…. I have a battle buddy from that tour witha nice scar, he got cut open, after developing an infection, after aerial resupply of water was cut off due to the Air Status turing red for two weeks. He drank the local water froma Wadi (using purification tablets) and still got sick! And the whole no weapons, no armor, nothing defensive on premises is one reason I never set foot inside the UN Compound out West where we were. The UN only liked us when the locals were rioting and burning them out of their compound. Go figure. Civil Affairs is sure an interesting MOS.

Ahhhhhh, fond memories of OEF Rotation 5! I have a Battle Buddy who has a nice scar on his stomach, the Docs at BAF had to cut him open after he developed an infection from drinking Wadi water. (Air Status was red for two weeks, no resupply) He used the purification tabs, and still got sick. And this bureaucratic BS about no weapons/Body Armor/anything to defend yourself, is something started by the United Nations. They wanted none of those items on your person when entering their compound out in RC West, but they LOVED us when their compound was razed by the locals. One reason I always stayed with the trucks instead of hobnobbing with those mental midgets. Civil Affairs can be an interesting MOS!

Sorry for the double post!

Typical State Department anti-America kiss-our-enemies’-ass doucebag, probably would’ve voted for Joe Stalin if he promised to triple the Per Diem rate while he was on active duty too.

Old Tanker

WOW, Blue Falcon indeed…..Did anyone offer him the local cheese?

Lucky

“Mister Ambassador, have you tried their yogurt as of yet?” Lmao!

kate

I work at the Embassy and don’t know where you’ve gotten your information, but it’s just wrong on both counts. You may not like Eikenberry, but at least get your facts right…..

Lucky

I really liked Ambassador Kalilizad, real stand up Gentleman, he had a lot of cool stories of Kabul prior to the 25 years of retardedness that was the infighting, Soviet War, and Taliban occupation.

squidgrunt

Damn Kate. How’s that for a smackdown? Does it still sting? hehe

Whats different, is that, well, nothings different. She is State Department. They have an air of entitlement, think they are so much better than your average American Serviceman. Only thing is, the locals trust us Servicemen a whole lot better that State employee’s. Why? Because we don’t make promises we cannot keep, they do. We do not run from gunfire, we run to it. We do not consider ourselves above the Afghan citizen, they do. As Civil Affairs, I have had the pleasure of working with USAID, State, and Dept. of Agriculture. Ag and USAID at least kept their promises and were not gunshy.

State is the bunghole of the government. Its policy is to promote those who taKE THE LEAST RISKS AND HAVE THE BROWNEST NOSES. I have no doubt what was reported is true. Embassy Baghdad used to have gay day celebrations. But the better measure of how bad the ambo is the number of volunteers they get. People have to be force assigned. Only those too dull to avoid service there and the truly cut throat seek such an assignment.

As for USAID they rank number two in the weenie parade beating only State. At the top of the list is, drum role please USIS.

“I work at the Embassy” and have zilch credibility with 99 out of 100 of us who have been downrange…

If I could be president for a day, all of you State Dept. wankers would be Wal-Mart greeters post haste.
