Casselton shooter won’t be charged, prosecutor says he acted in self defense
By Austin Erickson
FARGO, N.D. — Last Friday, Cass County deputies responded to a report of a gunshot at Harness Mobile Home Court in Casselton, ND.“The suspect, identified as William Dittmer Jr. called 911 and explained that there was an argument and physical altercation at his address outside near his vehicle between he and the victim, identified as Duane Turchin,” said Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner.
During the disagreement, Dittmer fatally shot his neighbor and was subsequently charged with murder and taken into custody by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Dittmer claims the shooting was an act of self-defense.
“Mr. Turchin was a considerably larger man. He had presented himself as a challenge to Mr. Dittmer,” explained State’s Attorney Birch Burdick. “He was present on Mr. Dittmer’s property and challenging him right there at his car. The evidence indicated that when Mr. Dittmer got out of his car, Mr. Turchin put his hand around his throat and was squeezing his throat.”

Getting a head start, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, on what will likely be a short life of crime. Pity.
“I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.” —THOMAS JEFFERSON

That poor supermatic.
(Secretly jealous)
I meet all sorts of interesting people at the range I belong to. Military both AD and retired, LEOs, some not so easily defined.
There was a security guard from the Calvert Cliffs nuke power plant I met there. Not the Officer Friendly at the gate, he’s the guy in the Ghillie suit in the tree line. He had a suppressed Colt Woodsman. When fired the action cycling was louder than the report. Pretty cool.
For $300ish for the can and $200 to the BATFE (bka ‘The Fun Police) you too can be that guy!
Oh, and the 3 to 14 month wait for the back ground check and tax stamp to come back to the FFL.
The road is long…
A proper “Hush Puppy” has an added latch to lock the slide closed. You can later gently cycle it with far less noise.
Or, hold it firmly shut with your hand.
A long-barreled .22 rifle loaded with .22 short can produce a very similar result without becoming a Stamp Collector.
A .22 revolver loaded with shorts can be masked by traffic noise. If you wait for the light to change, count three and fire, it sounds like a backfire of an accelerating car.
Urban rat control can be done on the cheap, with a bit of forethought and prep.
(Grin)
Or you could shoot CB caps in a heavy barreled target rifle. They sound only a little louder than a pellet rifle. A friend regularly shoots sky rats off his Spanish tiled roof. And his neighbors don’t have a clue why dead pigeons keep appearing in their yards. One even commented there must be virus killing them.
Bird Flu?
Plumbum Plague
Wow! What a mixed bag of bizarre miscreants!
Three PREteens!? WTHell?! Need to throw all three of them, AND their parents UNDER the jail, then cement the opening shut.
Time to bring back the floggings, the stocks, and the hangings, in the public square, as an object lesson to wannabe future criminals of any and all ages.
Poor, poor FA GB. He’s going to go to the linky, and be lost down that rabbit hole for dayz. Many, many “sub” links, including some for his favorite, the 1911 (howitzer be the name of St JMB).
I expect we’ll see him only when he comes up for food and air.
Hey!!!!!!! Somebody pass me down a sammich…and a Yuengling…and an air tank. Halp me I’ve fallen in this hole and I don’t want to get out. You beat all ‘Ed you know that dontcha? You knew I’d click; you knew I’d keep clicking…you knew I wouldn’t be able to stop. Tanks Matey. Been down there for a coupla hours and if Ms Thang hadn’t reminded me it was Friday, I’d still be there. Not just pictures, but articles, and historical references and pointing out other places I need to try and visit when I head out west. Quick one on the auction of a Bordello in Dodge City conducted in the 1950s. Bawdy House had been in bizness since the 1870s and they found a barrel full of Buffalo Rifles that had been traded for “favors”.
Speaking of busy ness, I gots to get busy. Fine job on the FGS/dumb crook news. 3 of a kind, a joker, and an Ace high is a winning hand.
Yep. I wandered down that rabbit hole myself for a bit.
But since I had to get ready for work, I forced myself to pull out of the rabbit hole (don’t go there, there are ladies in the audience).
But it seems that FA is fully retired, hence he has as much time as he wants to wander around in rabbit holes.
Rabbit-interuptis? No Happy Ending?
The Fargo, ND incident explains why we need guns…the great equalizer. Considerably larger man choking the $hit out of the smaller guy when he gets home from work. Small guy takes out a gun to defend himself…and ends the assault.
As for the St. Louis guy, he said the right thing…but if he was doing his due diligence and observing his target before he fired he might have been just reading the card…not sure how he feared for his life from some kids breaking his window. Good thing he only winged them! Now these young entrepreneurs can join the choir and have a successful singing career.
It’s dark. You don’t know what’s in the yutes hands, or their mental intentions.
Shoot to defend yourself works for me.
