Video posted online as DA says case of Georgia man who was chased and killed will go to grand jury

By Angela Barajas, Amir Vera and Steve Almasy
Brunswick, Georgia (CNN)The fatal shooting of a black man — apparently recorded on video in February and posted online Tuesday by a local radio station host — will go to a grand jury in coastal Georgia, according to a district attorney.

Elements of the disturbing video are consistent with a description of the shooting given to police by one of those involved in the incident.

Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick on February 23 when a former police officer and his son chased him down, authorities said. According to a Glynn County Police report, Gregory Michael later told officers that he thought Arbery looked like a person suspected in a series of recent break-ins in the area.

After they chased down Arbery, McMichael told police, Arbery and McMichael’s son Travis struggled over his son’s shotgun. McMichael said two shots were fired before Arbery fell to the street, the report said.

In a letter to police, George Barnhill , one of the district attorneys who has recused himself from the case and who saw the autopsy report, wrote that Arbery sustained three wounds during the struggle for the gun.

Tom Durden, the district attorney for the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, wrote in a news release obtained by CNN on Tuesday that he expects to present the case to the next available grand jury in Glynn County to consider whether charges are merited for those involved in Arbery’s death.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, courts are currently prohibited from empaneling grand juries.

Looks to me like Arbery was trying to take the shotgun away from McMichael. Read the article and view the “distrurbing” video here: CNN

“Thanks to the government’s past record, it is unfortunately very predictable that, in spite of the severe penalties mandated, tens of thousands of people will not comply at all (with Bill C-68). A new class of criminal will be created among harmless citizens whose previous lawbreaking may have resulted in nothing more than parking tickets.” — Lee Morrison, Canadian Mounted Police

Story number one is a wet dream for left in every way.

Yep, lead story on every platform down here. It will not be pretty. Either way not a good move on Dad and son’s part. Brunswick/Glynn County has plenty of LEO presence with PD, SO, GSP, and FLETC. One call, that’s all. They use swarm tactics. We may have a little Trayvon Martin thing on going too, with the pictures displayed.

The Brooklyn take down? Classic!

We gonna get Graybeard to do a followup critique of today’s gun pr0n? Older brother has the German Officer’s PPK in a .32 that Papa and the boys took off of a high ranking German in March of ’45 that they captured.

Well, you can publicly cream your jeans again about M. Browning… its most popular chambering is .380 (aka 9mm short, 9mm Browning, 9mm kurz, 9×17, etc) invented by John Browning.

Factoid… it was NOT James Bond’s preferred gun, he was ordered to use it since his preferred .25 Beretta was considered underpowered by his boss.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman

And….IIRC, M made a comment to the effect that it frequently jammed, almost got 007 killed (or at least, in trouble).

Sean Connery about James Bond’s pistol.

Connery introduces Geoffrey Boothroyd, who explains the background to his interest in the character, the differences between the Beretta 418, Walther PPK and Boothroyd’s preferred gun, the Magnum 44—Dirty Harry’s favored tool of his trade.

5th/77th FA No sure I catch your implication with your reference to Trayvon Martin. The video I saw, shows someone who might be Ahmaud Arbery jogging, and try to run around a white pickup truck (with someone standing in the back, that cuts him off. We then hear a shot, shortly after, the jogger is struggling with someone over a long object in the front of the pickup. Another shot is heard, and shortly after the jogger goes limp and drops to the ground. The person with the shotgun is identified as the son of Gregory Michael, and Gregory is the one in the back of the pickup truck. Gregory Michael, a former DA Investigator, is identified as firing the fatal shot. He is also seen getting out of the back of the truck with a pistol in hand.
What I don’t see is any reason these two people thought they had the right to detain the jogger (they claim the right to a citizens arrest…which would imply caught in the act of committing a crime), and how any of that (citizens arrest or not) could authorize the use of deadly force. Mr. Martin was identified as attacking his assailant, and that person fired a gun in self defense, after taking a beating.
These two individuals displayed guns to a guy jogging, and tried to intercept him…he certainly was not carrying anything in his hands (like a burglar) and was unarmed, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. What was the description of the burglar? Probably…I think he was black.
Yes, this is dream case for the Left. And I personally hope this does go to court, because what it does show is irresponsible gun owners acting as vigilantes. They used shotguns and pistols, not scary black rifles. The only people that need to lose their gun rights over this one are two idiots taking the law in to their own hands.

I agree 100% MI Ranger. The two idiots need to go down. I’m thinking since they weren’t both arrested when this FIRST happened is the father & son were trying to say the jogger was “doing some things.” This would be a case where an outside agency ie…GBI should be the lead investigators. Local boys may try to back up the shooters saying the jogger was wrong ala the initial Trayvon Martin case. It’s been 20 years since I had worked with any of the locals down there, but they used to be good troops. And if you called 911, you didn’t have to wait but just a very few minutes before an officer was there. I am very curious as to why they were not detained initially.

Reply to AW1Ed…you’re right on GB’s caliber. My thing was a poke at their (lack of) customer service.

Reply to David. The linky article made mention that one would think this particular piece had been designed by the Saintly JMB (hbhn). Read something to that effect early this morning.
