By: Katelin Gandee
LAURINBURG — Laurinburg Police are investigating the first fatal shooting of 2020.On Thursday at around 11:45 p.m., officers responded to an apartment on Kinston Street in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, officers found Justin Matthew Brown, 24, of Elizabeth Drive inside with a gunshot wound. He was found to be deceased when officers arrived.
According to a press release from the Laurinburg Police Department, the resident of the home is Leshaun Peterkin, who shares an infant child with Brown. Also inside the residence was a family member of Peterkin and Peterkin’s friend, Johnnie Lee-Prescott Troy. The family member was not identified.
The report states that Brown had begun texting Peterkin Thursday evening that he wanted to see his child and then began communicating threats. Not long after, there was a knock at the door and the family member opened it, and that is when Brown forced open the exterior screen door and entered the residence while displaying a firearm.
He then forced his way past the family member and Peterkin through the residence and down the hallway to a rear bedroom, where he encountered Troy. Brown pointed his firearm in the direction of Troy, who then took his own weapon and fired, fatally striking Brown.

Enid Police Identify Teen Shot, Killed By Resident After Attempted Burglary
ENID, Oklahoma – Enid police have identified a teen shot and killed after an attempted burglary Friday.
According to authorities, officers responded to a burglary at a home near South 16th Street and East Park Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered that three suspects attempted to force their way into the home, but they were confronted by an armed resident.
The suspects ran away as the resident fired several rounds at them, police said.
Officers found one suspect, now identified as 14-year-old Ezavier Lee Condit, at a nearby intersection suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Saint Mary’s hospital where he later died from his injuries.
“We know the resident at the home had fired shots. The investigation is still ongoing, still pending. So, I can’t say with great certainty that the homeowner shot this person,” said Sgt. Roberto Norton with Enid police.

As promised, some links and things for the ladies to conceal carry. There really is no “one” way to carry- it takes practice and trial-and-error. The pros say to dress around the weapon, easier said than done. Until you find the two or three carry systems that work for you, you’ll have drawer full of holsters. Ask any gun guy.

And finally, there’s always open carry where legal.
