Mugger targets female UFC fighter, ends up in the hospital

By Elizabeth Llorente
When a would-be thief saw 26-year-old Polyana Viana waiting for a taxi on Saturday outside her Rio de Janeiro apartment, he apparently concluded she was easy prey.

He asked her what time it was, she reportedly said, before trying to bully her into giving him her cellphone. He also told her he had a gun.

She quickly sized up the situation – it’s second nature for the UFC straw-weight, who has won 10 of her 12 professional fights.

“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it,’” she told MMAJunkie.com in an interview. “So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.’”

Wrong apartment.
Suspected burglar shot and killed at southside apartment complex

A suspected burglar was shot and killed by a resident at a southside apartment complex this evening.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Port Apartments. These apartments are located on the 6100 block of Wooldridge Road near Cimarron Boulevard.

Police say their preliminary investigation shows a 41-year-old suspect tried breaking into an upstairs apartment. The 68-year-old man living in the apartment confronted the alleged intruder and then shot and killed him. Police are calling it self-defense.

“The 68-year-old resident feared for his safety, and he fired striking the suspect,” said CCPD Officer Travis Pace.

Once again Col. Colt’s truism is proven: A firearm makes all men (or women) equal regardless of age, size or infirmity. We might also add, don’t threaten to pull a gun on a woman who can whip your ass before you can reach to draw your pistola.
