With what?

That was my first response when I saw this headline;

My second thought was about how if George Bush (either) had told people in the middle of an economic downturn to go out and buy stocks, the media would be telling us how out of touch he is with the common man. Democrats would be calling him a capitalist robber baron. But here the AP is telling us what a great idea it is.

Don’t get me wrong – it is a good idea. I haven’t changed my investment habits at all, well except I increased the amounts a bit.

What I will criticize about Obama is that at this point “talking” the economy isn’t going to do much good. We need actions to effect the economy, and so far all of his actions have been wrong. And investors know it.

And, he still doesn’t have a clue on how to make the economy work. The government’s efforts are pissing in the wind. The jobs they make produce nothing. Private enterprise produces jobs!!!! When a “shovel ready” job is created, it will last the length of that contract, then the people employed will be looking for another job, yet again. Investors are running away from the economy, because they see that anything they invest stands a good chance of being taxed until they’re in a no-win situation.
When you are the President and you talk the economy down for an extended period of time, people start to believe what you say, and react accordingly.

I’m going to do my part to help the economy. I am going to my bank and borrow as much as I can and invest it in the stock market.

Anybody want to invest in my swamp land? Plenty of water, a few places to beach your fishing boat and lots of skeeters to swat at while you drink beer?

Um, I got a nice house, close to a swamp…
