Charges Dropped for Virginia Man Arrested After Airbnb Renters Trashed His House
The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s attorney dropped charges against a man arrested after he pointed a gun at a group of Airbnb renters who he said trashed his Virginia home.
John A. “Jack” Andrews, 77, faced seven charges, including felony abduction, after holding several people at gunpoint.
After an employee notified Andrews of significant damage at his $4 million Aldie home, he went there and found broken windows and doors, damaged furniture, glass everywhere and large blood stains throughout the rental property.
He was met by about 12 people, according to a court filing. With gun drawn, Andrews told them to stay put while the sheriff was on the way. Some stayed at the scene, but others fled.
But when deputies arrived, Andrews was the one handcuffed and charged. The guests were questioned and released.
Those guests did not show up in court Thursday.
Video of the brawl that caused the damage showed young men cutting each other with broken beer bottles.
Andrews’ attorney argued his client was within his right to self-defense, the right to bear arms and the right to conduct a citizen’s arrest.
Airbnb says incidents like these are few and far between, and the renters have been barred from using the site again.

Cab driver cleared in fatal shooting of armed robber who threatened to ‘shank’ him
Prosecutors have ruled the use of force by a Massachusetts cabbie who fought back after he was attacked by two men seeking to rob him as self-defense.
Bristol County DA Thomas M. Quinn III last week said the unidentified Yellow Cab driver was cleared by his office in the Aug. 10 shooting that left one of his attackers, Christopher Dunton, 24, of New Bedford, dead.
“After a thorough investigation, it is clear that the cab driver acted in lawful self-defense and the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances,” Quinn said, as reported by South Coast Today.
The second robbery suspect, Kyle S. Dawson, 23, of New Bedford, was indicted on multiple felony charges by a Bristol County Grand Jury in early October. According to prosecutors, Dawson and Dunton were picked up just before 1:00 a.m. by the cab driver from a local address and, once in the vehicle, the two men asked for change for a $50 then moved to rob the driver, placing him in a chokehold and pulling a knife.
Assistant District Attorney Robert Digiantnmasco said at Dawson’s arraignment that Dunton held the cab driver by the neck while Dawson held a “black tactical knife” to the man’s side and “said they would shank him.”
The cab driver was able to wrestle free and, a concealed carry permit holder, drew a gun and fired three rounds into the cab at the robbers, striking Dunton.
Dawson, who has a lengthy criminal record, is facing trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter, armed assault with intent to rob, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Regarding the owner of the $4 million dollar home in Virginia. He might want to pay for private security on-site should he rent the estate again through Airbnb. He can probably afford it.

As for the AirBNB homeowner, it’s all well and good that the AirBNB site banned those rascally renters, but that don’t pay for the damages. What next? Civil and criminal lawsuits against all the renters? Seems like it.

I really enjoy this section, but sometimes the links don’t open. Not y’alls fault. My boy put a very high level of security wire on my machine and if there is any little something that the system doesn’t like it will arm the claymores and light off the foo gas. Don’t mind that at all, keeps the spam, ads, and misc phishing attacks to a minimum. RE today’s articles: If those POSs didn’t show up for the court case, who’s to say they’ll show up for a civil suit? AirBnB should have to pay for the damages and then collect from the assholes. A problem with today’s format, at least it seems to me, is that it has clear violations of copyright. The originating sites for both stories had footer statements for “all rights reserved.” In addition, both also had more detailed terms of use statements spelling out what rights were conveyed to site visitors.
TAH can’t just routinely copy-and-paste stuff from other sites into a block quote and call it a done deal. At some point, there are likely to be consequences.
What is currently an acceptable workaround to the copyright problem is to fall back on a simple Journalism 101 summary lede to act as a synopsis for the source story. It only has to consist of who, what, where, when, why, and how in 25 words or less. Additional information might include, say, why the story is relevant to the TAH crew. From its inception, Jonn Lilyea was also good at injecting comment zingers into the Feel Good pieces such as asking what kind of knucklehead rents his $4 million house to a bunch of stank-ass Airbnb hippies.
An additional way to help stay out of copyright hot water is to give more formal credit to the source than just a simple link. Such acts as both a professional courtesy, and might help in an instance where a source publisher wants to make a federal case out of having stuff copied.
No, the article is referenced in the link, and is displayed in quotes. I’m not about to put TAH in copyright jeopardy.

I saw Airbnb in the above post and I think that bnb is bed n bath but I don’t know what the Air means. Am I right about the bnb part.???

Format: today’s is preferred, but go with what works. I can’t seem to get that to work when I do partial quote, but I always post a link to my resource, as well as the original reporter’s name if available.

To be CLEAR about Sr. Mary Grace’s angst on this sentence: “he was attacked by two men seeking to rob him as self-defense” will, to the reader, appear to mean that the two men robbed him as self-defense. Now, Sr. Mary Grace does know what the writer meant, but the unintended consequence of NOT putting ‘as self-defense’ in its proper place throw off the context and meaning of the sentence in a big way, to wit: were the two men robbing the cabbie as self-defense, or was he defending himself?
Nope, the proper placement of ‘as self-defense’ is as follows: “Prosecutors have ruled as self-defense the use of force by a Massachusetts cabbie who fought back after he was attacked by two men seeking to rob him.”
Sr. Mary Grace is now retiring to her cubby hole with a good book, a bowl of freshly-popped and properly buttered popcorn, and some liquid refreshment. That way, she doesn’t have to go to confession for cussing.
