A man discharged his gun into the ground to scare off a man with a knife and brass knuckles in Peoria. Peoria police report that on September 13 they were called to an apartment complex near 82rd Avenue and Bell Road.
Witnesses say a man, identified as 28-year-old David Rubio, attacked three people by pushing them, pulling their hair, or punching them. While hitting the last victim, Rubio allegedly pulled out a knife and brass knuckles and again advanced on the victim.
The victim pulled out a handgun and fired one shot into the ground, causing Rubio to run away. He was later located, arrested, and charged with aggravated assault.
From Clovis, NM
A Texas man says he shot a would-be mugger who came at him with a knife early Friday morning outside a Clovis motel.
Zion Flores, 20, of Mission, Texas, said he was in his car about 8:15 a.m. when two men came toward him, one slashing his tire with a knife. Flores said he responded by pulling a gun and firing in self-defense.
“I seen them coming to the window, I just lowered the (car) window, and ‘Pop, pop, pop,’” Flores said. Clovis police said a 40-year-old man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his buttocks. He was in stable condition at a Lubbock hospital on Friday afternoon. Police and prosecutors said no arrests had been made Friday afternoon.
“They (police) want to complete their investigation to determine if it was self defense,” said Assistant District Attorney Jake Boazman. “It’s not in dispute who did the shooting.”
Flores said the second man ran from the scene at the Travel Lodge motel after he shot the first one “in the ass.”
Police Capt. Roman Romero said in a news release that “all relevant witnesses and subjects were transported to the Clovis Police Department for interview. … The investigation into this event is ongoing.” Flores said he is staying at the motel while working in Clovis.

By the time you draw, present, and discharge your sidearm, your attacker may have turned around to flee. This is especially so if you fire multiple shots.
The resultant “back shoot” can subsequently make your claim of self defense rather dicey.

All kidding aside, I thought the same thing although it’s possible that the guy was standing sideways and he shot him in the ass like that as the article doesn’t say. Otherwise, it could indeed get dicey
Perps get shot in the backside all the time. The sane natural response when a gun is pointed at one is to turn to flee. If the shooter fires more than once or hesitates pulling the trigger, odds are the target will have turned to run away.

23 September 1779 – John paul jones said “I have not yet begun to fight.” During the American Revolution, the USS Bonhomme Richard, commanded by John Paul Jones, wins a hard-fought engagement against the British ships of war Serapis and Countess of Scarborough off the east coast of England. Scottish-born John Paul Jones first sailed to America as a cabin boy and lived for a time in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where his brother had a business. He later served on slave and merchant ships and proved an able seaman. After he killed a sailor while suppressing a mutiny, he went to the American colonies to escape possible British prosecution. With the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War in 1775, he traveled to Philadelphia and was commissioned a senior lieutenant in the new Continental Navy. He soon distinguished himself in actions against British ships in the Bahamas, the Atlantic, and the English Channel. In August 1779, Jones took command of the USS Bonhomme Richard and sailed around the British Isles. On September 23, the Bonhomme Richard engaged the HMS Serapis and the smaller HMS Countess of Scarborough, which were escorting the Baltic merchant fleet. After inflicting considerable damage to the USS Bonhomme Richard, Richard Pearson, the captain of the HMS Serapis, asked Jones if he had struck his colors, the naval sign indicating surrender. From his disabled ship, Jones replied, “I have not yet begun to fight,” and after three more hours of furious fighting the Serapis and Countess of Scarborough surrendered to him. After the victory, the Americans transferred to the HMS Serapis from the USS Bonhomme Richard, which sunk the following day. Jones was hailed as a great hero in France, but recognition in the United States was somewhat belated. He continued to serve the United States until 1787 and then served briefly in the Russian navy before moving to France, where he died in 1792 at the age of 45, amid the chaos of the French Revolution. Thanks for the post HMC Ret. A true Naval Hero with big brass ones did real hero stuff on this date in History. Also on this date in History, 23 Sep 1955, a future Army Hero was born. He too of the big brass ones, and was loved and admired by so many. I have lit a fat one and poured another cold one in his Honor. Our Thanks to His parents for bringing Him into this world.
