From Elmira NY,

Elmira police are still investigating a home invasion early Sunday in which the intruder was shot, but police say the occupant who fired the shot will not be charged.

Police on Monday identified the suspect as Jason A. Lopez, 33, of Elmira.  Police officers responded at 6:12 a.m. Sunday to a residence in the 500 block of Perine Street for a report of a home invasion in progress.

Officers learned that the intruder had made entry into the residence and was shot by one of the occupants.

The resident shot Lopez with a 12-gauge shotgun which was legally possessed, police said. Lopez remained in a local hospital Monday receiving treatment for a single gunshot wound.

From Mooresville, NC

A burglary suspect caught in the act was detained at gunpoint by a Mooresville homeowner who shot at the man’s tire as he attempted to drive at him late Friday night, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.

The incident should be seen as a warning to other would-be criminals, Campbell said.

The suspect, identified as Justin Scott Morgan, 31, was arrested by Iredell County deputies Aug. 24 after the homeowner’s wife called to report the burglary on Scottish Dive in northeast Mooresville shortly before 11 p.m., and told deputies that her husband had detained the suspect at gunpoint.  Morgan was still being held by the homeowners when deputies arrives on the scene.

From Houston, TX

A man was shot in the chest after he kicked in the door of his wife’s friend Saturday night.  Houston police were called to a shooting in the 2100 block of Lake Hills Dr. in Kingwood.

According to police, a woman was visiting a man in his apartment when her husband came to the unit and kicked in the door.  The woman’s husband allegedly became upset his wife was visiting another man, police said.  Police said the two men had an altercation and the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

HPD said he was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police said it appeared to be self defense and no charges have been filed.

Thanks Dave for the entertainment!

Must have been birdshot if Mr Lopez was shot with a 12ga and is still alive. Good for Mr Lopez, too bad for everyone else who has to pay for his hospitalization, trial and incarceration.

Shot at a tire!? That’s like trying to shoot a perp in the leg to only wound him. Hell with that! Shoot at the windshield and radiator/engine block. And then step to the side.

Wilted Willy

The hell with that, aim for right between the eyes, then look thru that nice hole in the back of their skull!

Aren’t you supposed to be able to load rock salt into shotguns? How is that done? Or is that just an agrarian legend?

RGR 4-78

The weight of the rock salt would have to meet the load specs of the powder/primer combination, if it doesn’t, you have the possibility of a breach/barrel overload.

I would go with a #6 shot load or heavier with at least 1400 ft. per sec. if you are going to load your own.

Ex; You can take the shell apart and put rock salt in it and then put it back together. When I was working nights at Brinks, the dispatch office had a 12 gauge on the wall so one night after we returned to the office, one of the guys emptied the shotgun and made sure it was empty then loaded the empty shell into the gun with the primer intact and then Frankie The “Gooch” the third member of the truck crew walked in and then the other two crew members faked an argument and one of them pulled the gun off it’s mounting and from a distance fired at the other crew member and the “Gooch” turned white at that moment. The night dispatcher just looked the other way and we had some laugh. After we lost the union up held by Reagan Judges at the time, A lot of guys left and got other jobs and the “Gooch” moved to Florida but had a trouble getting a job which in his frustration took it out on his wife. The wifes father was “Family” connected and after a couple of beatings the wife got, she called dad and before a couple of the Boys came over to take care of the Gooch, he went into the garage and self destructed with his 12 Gauge. True story.

RGR-478; Read your comment which you put up while I was typing out mine which I put in in from listening to others in the past whom said that they used rock salt in the shells. Did not realize what has to be done to make it work.

RGR 4-78

If the load is to light you will get a lot of powder burning after it leaves the barrel with less fps, to heavy a load, excessive breach/barrel pressure.

Thanks RGR, your info on ballistical data is very informative.

RGR 4-78

You are welcome.

The home defender trench gun I had before it was lost in the tornado was loaded with 2 bear loads followed by 2 slug loads and one more bear load. Ideal for all three situations. # 3 story; why go after the fellow that is satisfying your wife? Seems like it should be her you’re mad at. And why get mad at your own “short” comings?
