Newsroom Commando Ralph Peters Cashiers Himself
This is from Poetrooper. As spenorty as it is, I think he’s getting his game back in spades.
Cashiering is a historical military ritual in which an officer who has betrayed his oath or failed in his duty is required to stand before the assembled troops and have all symbols of rank and service stripped from his uniform, to demonstrate most forcefully the disgrace he has brought upon himself and possibly them. His cap is knocked off and crushed underfoot; epaulettes or shoulder boards are ripped from his tunic; brass buttons are cut away; all medals, awards, and symbols of rank and past service are torn off and dropped in the dirt; and finally, his formal sword is broken over the knee of a fellow officer, with the two pieces scornfully cast at the disgraced officer’s feet. It is a rite of personal and professional degradation, purposely intended to convey as much contempt and evoke as much shame as possible, to deter other officers from bringing such dishonor upon themselves and their services.
This weekend, retired Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters went on CNN’s dubiously titled Reliable Sources and, in the presence of the show’s serially unreliable host, Brian Stelter, and all those unfortunate souls in airport waiting areas across the nation being force-fed this liberal Sunday-morning drivel, cashiered himself. It appears that fulminating Trump Derangement Syndrome brought this former Fox News military analyst to perform this sad ceremony.
To his credit, he did a bang-up job of it.
First, Peters said:
Well, the most dreadful part is that we have a president who does not respect our system of government, does not understand our government, who is not interested in understanding our government, who believes that the Constitution is a menu from which he can choose only the most delectable items, who disdains career bureaucrats, who doesn’t respect the Constitution.
Whap! There went Peters’s headgear. Then this self-anointed Russia expert proceeded to do one of those Russian kick dances on his fallen headdress while ripping away his shoulder boards with this:
But the twin – the evil twin of that is that I believe, as a former Russia analyst for most of my career, and having worked directly with Russian intelligence services, I am convinced that the president of the United States is enthralled to Vladimir Putin. There is no other way to explain his behavior. And he perfectly fits the profile of the kind of people the Russians target.
Poor Peters continued this ritual of self-abasement by ripping away his buttons and medals with this:
I left Fox because as a former military officer who took an oath to the Constitution, I could not be part of a channel that to me was assaulting the Constitution, the constitutional order, the rule of law. But that said, Fox isn’t immoral, it’s amoral. It was opportunistic. Trump was a gift to Fox and Fox in turn is a gift to Trump. As you observed earlier, it’s a closed loop and so people that only listen to Fox have an utterly skewed view of reality.
Peter’s sword-breaking was reserved for this observation:
[P]eople supporting Trump are radicals. These … couch potato anarchists … don’t have a program to make America great again, and by the way America is great right now, rather, they’re destructive. They want to tear things down. They want vengeance. And Trump is brilliant at that. He’s done what autocrats and charlatans and false messiahs throughout history have done. He’s told core supporters, you’re not to blame for the mistakes you made. You’re not to blame for your failures. It’s them, it’s the minorities, it’s the immigrants, it’s fake news, it’s the deep state.
As a combat veteran, which Peters is not, I have to wonder if this sneering, whiny-voiced news show commando has a clue as to how many millions of his military family he has just branded as destructive, vengeful, racist couch-potato anarchists, followers of a false messiah and derelict in our oaths to the Constitution. It is a fact that a substantial majority of military personnel, whether active-duty, retirees, or veterans, are conservative in their politics, so Peters had to know he was spitting in the faces of millions of his former comrades. While not enamored of some of Trump’s antics, many of us see him as something of a political Patton – a bit headstrong, perhaps, and sometimes crude in his language, but nonetheless an effective, hard charging leader who knows who and where America’s antagonists are and takes the battle to them with whatever weapons are called for. And wins. We, and I suspect our enemies as well, find it hard to imagine this president drawing a bright red line for an adversary and then turning tail when it is defied, leaving America to be mocked by some pissant potentate as it was under his presidential predecessor.
Except for a few former senior officers fearful of losing their monetized security clearances with the cushy sinecures in corporate boardrooms and network greenrooms those bring, this loose-lipped, self-cashiered light colonel is most likely going to find his newly chosen political parade ground a lonely place indeed. As Peters’s disloyal diatribe gets around the military community he has so scurrilously slandered, he soon may wish that he had performed an additional historical military ritual: seppuku, the Japanese face-saving rite of self-disembowelment.

He fucketh himself – BYE!!
He DORKETH himself in his own SQUEAKHOLIO!
On March 5, 2006 piece in the New York Post, entitled “Dude, Where’s My Civil War?”, Peters wrote: “I’m looking for the civil war that The New York Times declared. And I just can’t find it (…)”
That’s all you need to know about the ell-honed credentials of this “analyst” and “military expert”!
Any thing or any one connected to CNN has at most my utter scorn.
One maybe most of us remember from our youth…..
A second one that is real (or is it “reel” 🙂 ) from 1935…
Stranded, stranded on the toilet bowl. What do you do when you’re stranded, and can’t reach the roll.
I remember it as:
Stranded on the toilet bowl
When you need another rolll
To prove you’re a man
You gotta wipe it with your hand
Or drop it in the bowl
I knew there were other verses, and stanzas but it has been a while. Thank you for bringing us up to speed though. Who comes up with this stuff?
A nice tight group, all in the 10 ring. Poe’s back.
“He’s done what autocrats and charlatans and false messiahs throughout history have done. He’s told core supporters, you’re not to blame for the mistakes you made. You’re not to blame for your failures.”
Waitaminute, I thought that was Trump’s predecessor. See also “You didn’t build that” and “You can keep your Doctor”.
You mean the Communist community organizer, the former ‘if if if if if-er’ in chief? (See link)
He suggested that he couldn’t make inroads into the hills of places like PA and WV and across the farms in the breadbasket, commenting that people ‘cling to their guns and God’.
That may be the ONLY thing he was right about. Peters may want to climb back into Barry’s lap, it’s a cruel world out here.
Safe for work. Promise! https://youtu.be/4ndoB0Y3HOU
you mean the guy Puke Peters called a “Pussy” on live TV?
“Caw Caw”

Peters has shown in the past he can do competent work as a novelist. Writing under the pen name “Owen Parry,” for example, he did a series of Civil War-era military mystery stories which had a remarkable protagonist in Abel Jones.
So here’s another mystery. Why would somebody with Peter’s potential as a good fiction writer give it up to be just another bad political pundit?
Well, he is a leftist pundit corret? so that means he’s just putting out more fiction, just not as good as his military mystery stories.
He was always moderate non-aligned. I have never been pleased when retired officers publicly bad mouth Federal Leadership. Back when the last guy was pres the media would be having kittens over his remarks. These days they hold the megaphone.
Because CNN is paying him a shitload of money to be on retainer to say what they tell him to say.
Well, I did like it when Peters called Former Dear Leader a pussy.
Guess a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Ralph Peters, a Tom Clancy wannabe, is stuck in the Cold War ‘80s. Time and Trump have passed him by.
He seemed ok when he started on Fox News but I lost track of him because I don’t watch Fox that much. I wondered where he went and I didn’t know that he switched over to the Communist news network whom I do not watch at all.
I don’t watch Fox, MSNBC, CNN, the networks, or any other opinion shows. In fact, it’s getting more and more difficult to find straight news even on line.
Same here. No cable. No satellite.
Just CBS and FOX over the air and I can’t stomach either. There is PBS but that’s just a leftist telethon.
Powerline blog is good for on line but I agree content is getting scarce. Digital book burning is here tnx to FB et al.
AM radio lives on in flyover country.
If you google “Ralph Peters,” PT’s American Thinker is right there, a Top Story feature, and getting a helluva a lot of hits. Congrats, PT.
As for Peters, he is a confused fellow, sharing a bed now with the most repugnant among us. I very much appreciate him, McRaven, Brennan, et alia, peeling back their blankets and letting us get a look at them. I visited the transcript of the Peters diatribe. Among other things, he said this: “What we need is people who will speak honestly and say what they believe and not worry about who it offends.” Um. Ah. I sit just me or did he just perfectly capture what so many Americans love about President Trump?
No, i tis not jus chew. (I am making fun of spellcheck and autocorrect today.)
He says these things, but they are the precise opposite of what he really means.
“… peeling back their blankets and letting us get a look at them.”
The sight is horrific enough, but the stench would knock a buzzard off of a shit wagon.
I’m having difficulty understanding this bit from Peters:
“I am convinced that the president of the United States is enthralled to Vladimir Putin.”
I am truly trying to figure out where this delusional statement originates in Peters’ crinkled brain. (All brains are crinkled, but his seems to be more so than others.)
If he dislikes Trump, fine. I think dTrump is gauche, loud-mouthed, frequently boorish, and obnoxious, but….
There’s that part of Peters that seems to be unable to understand that Trump is an independent thinker, does what he thinks works (and frequently does work), and while he is quite obnoxious, he knows how to get things done. He is his own boss.
So where is Peters, in his paranoia and delusions, getting this idiotic crap that Trump is in thrall (enthralled is incorrect) to Vlad Putin. If anything, he’d invite Vlad to the White House for a beer, give him hell, shake his hand when he leaves, and wave ‘good-bye’ and then remind his seekrit squirrels to scan the place for hidden microphones and crap like that.
Or maybe he’d invite Vlad to meet him at that burger bar in Northwest DC instead.
I doubt seriously that Peters understands anyone who is independent and able to manage without consulting every tomdick&harry in the Halls of Congress for permission.
Or maybe Peters is just a dickless wonder with a hair up his ass because that creature from the depths of the swamp didn’t win and he lost a substantial sum on the bet.
Yeah, that’s the ticket. Ask the fool how much cash he lost on that bet and watch him turn red and sputter.
Ex-PH2,
Peters is a typical liberal in the military. He gravitated to what he knew. He was in Military Intelligence and when that wasn’t enough he switched to FAO which is just State Department in Uniform. He wants to somehow put Trump in a neat little cookie cutter politician of the last 20 years place, and that just won’t work. Totally agree with you on the gauche, loud-mouthed, frequently boorish, and obnoxious but gets things done because he approaches it like a business man point of view. I voted for someone else in the Primary (and they promptly dropped out so I guess I was one of few in my state).
What people like Peter’s fail to realize (though he did admit that the US is great now) is that we got this way by taking a hard stance (based on a plan) and sticking to it. Lately we have just forced others to our point by our power bases (economics, or military) but it wasn’t always that way.
The Politicians today think it is all about standing on a line and not backing down, or bending over backwards to appease an enemy. They forget that America at one time had no power base, and very little troops, our politicians were great at understanding the problem and negotiating a solution that satisfied everyone. Politicians need to learn to be politicians again instead of white collar criminals. Statesmen not Criminals! Term limits will help to curb this problem.
“Politicians and diapers both need to be changed often and for the same reason.” – Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)
That ole boy screwed the pooch.
If a noteworthy author with an -epic- temper can stay well within the bounds of Article 88, I have to ask what the frak is going on with the officer corps that is leading to a bumper crop of disgraceful displays, Peter’s tirade being just a small sample.
What ever happened to “an officer is -always- on duty” ?
Resign that commission or STFU.
They are following the money, so that they may partake. It’s a bacterial infection that one gets when bathing in and drinking the water inside the beltway. Peters is desperate for attention (and in his business, that means money). McRaven (one of my old teammates before he lost his mind)is simply calculating that Trump will lose in 2020, and he [McRaven] will be in line for a cabinet position from whichever liberal comes next.
Spot on, Poe!
WTF? Read some of his stuff, I think, back late 80’s/early 90s (?). Nothing lately. Don’t got/want cable tv, never have liked anything at all about cnn, and have given up on all the broadcast news too. Can’t believe hardly any thing on line either. Willing to loan him a real nice reproduction McElroy Sabre for the seppuku thing. Nice point on it, but kinda dull. These “experts” don’t realize that we don’t want a return to the cold war times, and we damn sure don’t need a shooting war with the Ruskies or the Chinks. Defend our Constitution, our borders, and some some deals for truly fair trade. De Trump as a political Patton, “Like” How did that work out for Georgie in Dec ’45?
Do you think maybe the Chinese miss the Days of the Cold War, when they were Part of the Big Three? (The other Two being USA and USSR.)
The more this pot stirring goes on, the more I think we’re heading back to those days when the Cold War was on everyone’s mind, and the only thing the Soviet Union exported was propaganda.
Yes, and they have long memories. Truman should have turned Patton loose in ’45, and MacArthur in ’50. Our last best hope IMHO is to get the Ruskies and the Chinaman fighting each other. Us fighting either or both gets back to that whole, do we have enough expendable ordnance and replacement men, machines, money & most important, the will.
China is currently in a minor squabble with Russia over its northern area, some island(s)on the north side.
Hadn’t heard of this. Hope for peace, prepare for war. The motto of Cheyenne Mountain (?) Eternal Vigilance (?). I think, too, that some of these world “Leaders” are thinking about testing some of the Tom Clancey Novellas, just to see if the real world would play out like the book. Maybe that’s where Ralph Peters is getting his consultant fees from, now that Tom is dead. Had heard a semi joking comment from former GA Sen Sam Nunn office, Chair of Armed Services Comm.,that the main reason the Cold War was ended and the Berlin Wall fell, was cause Reagan sent Gorbochev a copy of Red Storm Rising. I, personally, would like to see my Grand Children grow up in a more peaceful than we have had. Doesn’t look real promising, 13 & 9, and we’ve been at war since 2001.
Peters never got OUT of the cold war. He’s truly delusional, and I wonder how many of his ‘talking points’ were dictated by CNN’s staff… No credibility now, no credibility before.
Ralph Peters fucked himself the first time while he was on active duty, serving GEN Barry McCaffrey when he was drug czar. Peters for a few years, since he was a CPT had been publishing a few Tom Clancy-type novels, some good, some not-so-good (HINT: MI Officers should stay away from writing sex scenes). His last novel featured very thinly disguised villains who were none other than GEN McCaffrey and SecStat Warren Christopher. After that, nothing to do but retire.
Peters is, however, a sold Russian specialist, a FAO, and graduate of DLI’s basic and intermediate Russian courses, with appropriate heavy-duty follow-on assignments. On Russia things he knows what he’s talking about, or is at least better qualified than most people in the media.
Where he fell on his sword was by being on TV in the first place, whether it be for FOX or CNN.
By the way, the term “cashiered” comes from the British Army, in which officers purchased their commissions and could sell them back, up until at least 1860. “Drummed out” I think is the proper term of art in Peters’ case.
Peters is a legend in his own mind. Hes been wrong about everything he predicted policy wise and his life achievement was calling obama a pussy. He is the swamp. He is very angry the free ride is over with and america and americans are winning while his sour ass is losing. Get fucked, Ralph.
For the record, the inflation rate for July was a very modest 2.9%, as announced on Aug. 10.
That means that the US economy is chugging along just fine, people are employed, and purchasing power is still in place with no strain on budgets.
“Couch Potato Anarchists”
Hmm, I don’t think that means what he thinks it means.
Before long he’ll be on MSNBC chummed up with Sharpton talking about how racist white people are…
Glad I’m not the only one that noticed that clash of terms.
He’s just saying those things to annoy people, and nothing else. Unfortunately, he may annoy the wrong people if he keeps doing that.
I might be in the Army, but I notice oddities once in a while.

Hmmmm. That might make a nice companion T-shirt for my “Deplorable” T-shirt.
isn’t it interesting how little self awareness such people possess?
He has made a career of being wrong. I suspect that did not start with his selling out to be a media star.
