THREE-FER BITCHES.
F5 RIGHT UP YOUR OLD WAZOO!!!

Jon The Mechanic

I am filing a protest with Bernie Sanders. You already have enough FIRSTS and should be required to give your firsts to someone who does not have one.

ChipNASA

Sorry can’t do that.

from Last Week’s WOT

2/17 Air Cav says:
March 30, 2018 at 1:12 pm
You do not get a vote. A rule is a rule and we await Claw’s ruling. Also, “First” is not transferable. “

Frankie Cee

BUT, But, but, that is but a ruling, nothing more than some simple thing, like those petty Constitutional Amendments. The Socialists among us would strike that rule down and walk on it. How dare you expect others to follow established precedent. Shall I take this up with the city council of Deerfield Illinois, for clarification?

Wilted Willy

Congrats Chip!
You have tied my exhaulted 3 fer WOT!!

ChipNASA

And I have tied my own Three-fer WOT
Four-fer?
We’ll have to see next week.
😉

Wilted Willy

Good luck my friend!!

UpNorth

I coulda been a contenda, except we’re moving. Busy all day moving all kinds of boxes of stuff I never knew we had and other things.
Already told the wife, the next move will be me zipped in a bag and wheeled out the door by the ME. No more of this shit for me.

2/17 Air Cav

UpNorth. I am sorry for your situation. I truly am. There are many horrible things that we all must suffer in out lives and moving is one of them. I have another one in my future and I am already dreading it. I’ll probably have nightmares tonight now…

Graybeard

Congrats, ChipNASA.

Glad to see that the electronic F5 & post application you developed is functioning as anticipated. >grin<

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah? Well NOBODY can tie MY record for Honorary Firsts!

((((OVER))))

Graybeard

Hmmm, sounds like a challenge.

If one were to go back through all the prior WOTs and, however belatedly, claim Honorary First on each of them, then – theoretically – API’s record of Honorary Firsts could, indeed, be tied or surpassed.

Not that anyone here would be so nefarious as to do that.

Claw

Hmmm, never happen GI. Comments are closed on all posts after one year and API’s Honorary Firsts go back at least three years here on the WOT./smile

Dem’s da rules.

A Proud Infidel®™

SEE, I TOLD YOU SO!!!!

OWB

Well, yeah. And it will stand and can never be met much less bettered unless you quit claiming it. Even then it would take a very, very, very long time to surpass your claims.

However, that being said, I claim the title of honorary first firster more firsterer than API. Just because.

Hell, we never had a winter this year, in Tucson…

SFC D

I think there was about 10 minutes. Shortly after Christmas.

Cris

It was fun talking weather with my cousins in NY this past winter.

Graybeard

Spring has arrived in our AO and is in full swing.

My Queen Elizabeth roses are producing more blooms than ever before.
My Knockout rose is living up to its name.
Unfortunately, the Fragrant Cloud has not yet kicked in more than one or two blooms yet.

The Grancy Greybeards were going well until the rains knocked the blooms off.

The Yellow Jasmine and Wisteria vines have put on an impressive display, but are making way for the Indian Blankets and Bluebonnets.

‘Tis a lovely season in the Sunny South, indeed!

Ex-PH2

In regard to plants and crops, the USDA crop progress report: http://www.farmfutures.com/market-news/usda-crop-progress-agency-s-first-report-2018-debuts

says that while winter wheat is a bit behind, some states are beginning to catch up and move ahead. Sorghum and cotton planting are moving ahead, with Texas at 11% and Arizona at 23% of the year’s cotton crop in the ground.

However, rice is slightly ahead of the same time last year, and rice emergence is at 6%, compared to a 5-year average of 4%.

Looks like we’ll have plenty of stuff to put on the table – again.

Ex-PH2

Snow IS predicted for this weekend.

Wilted Willy

Sorry Ex, it is going to be 90 here this weekend! And guess what I’m having for dinner? Commissioner Wretched

Still no complaints, so I’ll drop off this week’s trivia/humor thing that I do. I hope you enjoy it! DID YOU KNOW…? Does it really hurt your eyes to sit too close to the television set? By Commissioner Wretched (the column starts with a cool picture of painted rocks, which I can’t upload but you can imagine) You may be wondering why I’m leading off this week’s column with a picture of painted rocks. (And then again, you may not be, but I’m going to tell you anyway.) I received a delightful letter this week from a lady in Pine Mountain, Ga., who signed herself as, “A fan.” The writer asked me if I was familiar with the somewhat-new painted rock phenomenon, where people paint designs or messages on small rocks and then leave them for others to find and collect. Hey, don’t scoff. They’re cheaper than baseball cards. While I am aware of the painted rock thing, I didn’t know that there are actually rules for the game. Such as … you can’t hide your painted rocks in churches or inside businesses without permission. Actually, that’s the only rule I was informed of. And it makes sense, you know. Anyway, she said in her letter that people who find the painted rocks profess that it makes their day and gives them a lift … and I can see how they would do that.  They’re pretty neat, if you ask me. She also wondered if there was any more information about them available, so I will turn to you, my readers, to let us know.  Send a note about painted rocks to me at didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com and I’ll share the info in a future column. And the best part – the very best part – of her letter? She says she’s a fan. Of mine. I have a fan. Wow! So, fan – and everyone else – let’s head into the trivia, which doesn’t have to be painted at all! Did you know … … Britain’s version of 911, dialed 999, was established in 1937? In its first month of operation there were… Read more »

I always liked Victoria. When I lived in Washington, I used to take the ferry over from Port Angeles a couple of times a year. I also remember a Summer when Boeing was testing a high-speed hydrofoil it had built destined for English Channel service. For a limited time, they were running it with passenger service between Seattle and Victoria.

The hydrofoil was fast. They didn’t post the numbers while aboard, but I’m guessing the thing was hitting about 50 knots. Much different from the old Princess Marguerite which might have been capable of 20 knots on a good day with a following sea while being towed by dolphins.

AW1Ed

The thing was tearing up the shoreline with its gi-normous wake, so they had to throttle it back to more reasonable speeds.
Still a pretty cool ride.

Offering my weekly update on Stolen Valorist Kyle Christopher Barwan, I first checked the Florida Department of Corrections and learned that he has not been transferred from the Century Correctional Installation, in the most Northwest corner of the state. Living just 35 or so miles East of him, (downwind with the prevailings), at night I can often hear some sort of Pitiful Wailing coming from that way, and on Wednesday night I was sure I heard, faintly, “More cooking oil, Bubba, Puleeeeeze, it hurts.”.

Wilted Willy

Glad to see he is still in the grey bar hotel! Mean while, my pos brother David “Doc” Shrum is still breathing my oxygen. The local VSO that was supposed to be investigating him just turned his case over to the local VSO in Phoenix. So now I have to call them and see if they will do anything to arrest this piece of shit! I really think nobody gives a shit about who steals from the government!

Claw

Willy, best of luck with having your brother’s case moved from one VSO to another.

Phoenix is over 400 miles and a different time zone from San Juan County, NM.

Since this is an open thread, I’ll make a completely unrelated (but serious) comment. If you are the RV type, please double-check the tires that you are running on your motorhome. Are they Goodyear G159s? If so, remove them with extreme prejudice. It has recently come to light that Goodyear manufactured these tires with a defect for a few years from the late 1990’s to mid 2000. They were originally designed for city freight duty (low speed), but then someone decided they could sell them to RV makers. the problem is, RVs travel on highways at 70 or so MPH. Instead of testing the tires, they just increased the speed rating, which caused them to fail catastrophically due to excess heat buildup. Remember the Firestone tire scandal? Firestone made a 14 million of those tires, of which a blowout failure was noted in 800-900 It was enough to force a recall, as we all know. Roughly 160,000 G159s were made, 40,000 went specifically into new motorhomes. Those 40K tires have accounted for almost 100 deaths or serious injury and 453 separations and other claims. GY got sued, of course. But the GY legal team was able to quash the court records and testimony for each suit, so that new lawsuits could not use the information obtained – and indeed often did not know that those suits had even happened. They also did not pass much of this on the NHTSA, so our safety administration was not told. This just came to light by a lawyer who spent years trying to inform folks of the problem, but was bound by court orders not to. Until recently. look, I have no dog in this fight: I don’t own an RV or own stock in tire companies (i did buy some GY stock back when they were circling the drain in the early 2000’s – the same time this was all going down, BTW), and I’m not one to run through the streets screaming “think of the children!”, but shit: I have friends and family with RVs. With a tread rating of 100K… Read more »

2/17 Air Cav

I actually read the doc and it’s awfully damning. The good news is that production of that tire ceased 15 years ago. If anyone is driving on tires that old, they’re asking for trouble. That aside, yeah, it certainly looks like Goodyear hid a lot and settled cases toot sweet.

Bim

Edit. Holy shit. I really had diarrhea of the keyboard. Sorry about that.

Useful information, nonetheless.

In Firearm related news, a federal judge in Taxachusetts has upheld the gun-grabbers wet dream ban on AR-15 rifles, stating “The AR-15 and its analogs, along with large capacity magazines, are simply not weapons within the original meaning of the individual constitutional right to ‘bear arms”. “The features of a military-style rifle are “designed and intended to be particularly suitable for combat rather than sporting applications,”.
It would appear that Judge Young, nominated to the court by President Reagan has no idea of what the founders intended when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. Nor does he have even a rudimentary knowledge of the AR-15.
http://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/381957-federal-judge-upholds-massachusetts-assault-weapons-ban

SFC D

Did that federal fuckstick write that legal opinion on parchment, with a quill? No? Then it’s invalid. Eat a dick, your honor!

2/17 Air Cav

Beat me to it, UpNorth. I just read the story. What firearms and attachments to them are banned or not are mere policy matters, according to His Lordship. Said he, “”These policy matters are simply not of constitutional moment. Americans are not afraid of bumptious, raucous and robust debate about these matters. We call it democracy.” Yeah, and some of us call you an asshole and your decision a feather in tyranny’s cap, William “Don’t Call Me Billy” Young.

2/17 Air Cav

And another thing. If an AR-15 is a military weapon, why isn’t it available with full auto? And the venerable 1911 is a military weapon but that’s okay. Go figure. I can’t.

2/17 Air Cav

And another another thing. How about His Lordship’s turn of phrase, “not of constitutional moment.” Is that a pip or what? Sounds so…so…assholish.

2/17 Air Cav

Gives His Lordship the gravitas, don’t it?

OWB

Something, for sure. Is gravitas a synonym for willful ignorance?

Joseph Williams

The “judge” is ingorant. He needs to check the 3 gun matches/pistol, AR-15 and semi-automatic shotgun. The Camp Perry matches, the list goes on and on. Not to mention hunting with the larger caliber ARs. Dumpass judge! Joe

UpNorth

Yeah, he also needs to check this, from SCOTUS. “But in an unsigned opinion, the U.S. Supreme Court Monday vacated that ruling. It said the Massachusetts court improperly found that Second Amendment protection applies only to weapons that were in common use at the time of the nation’s founding.

Referring to its landmark 2008 ruling on handguns in the home, the justices said the Second Amendment applies “to all instruments that constitute bearable arms,” even those not in existence at the time of the founding.” Emphasis added.
This from JAIME CAETANO v. MASSACHUSETTS, decided March 21, 2016.

UpNorth

Forgot to add to this, this was a unanimous decision by the Supremes.

2/17 Air Cav

I read Billy’s decision and it hinged on words that were lifted from Heller regarding military weaponry. The Heller majority recognized that some weapons fall outside of 2nd Amendment protection. (In that regard, it would be pretty tough to argue that if one wanted a .50 cal or a few sidewinders in his personal arsenal, there should be no legal impediment to their acquisition. Your view may differ.) Anyway, Billy’s test was to ask whether the banned weapon is “most useful in military service.” If the answer is no, then the 2nd A protects it. If the answer is yes, then there is no 2nd A protection. Billy answered yes, that the AR-15 is most useful in military service and, therefore, unprotected by the 2nd Amendment.

The Heller decision was a major foray into an area the Supremes have always been loathe to tread. The decision was close and left many issues purposefully unaddressed. In fact, the only matter it absolutely satisfied was to declare D.C.’s blanket ban unconstitutional. As more states sign on to these partial bans of select weapons, replete with challenges and conflicting Federal Circuit decisions, the matter will again be put to the Supreme Court. When? I have no idea but it will most likely be when the court will have votes that are at least 7-2 one way or another. Anything else merely prolongs this mess.

Here’s Billy’s decision: https://www.mass.gov/files/documents/2018/04/06/Worman%20dismissal-SJ%20ruling%204-6-18.pdf

I made scalloped potatoes au gratin with ham last night.

Lots of cheese sauce, thick and creamy. The best part was when I took the foil off and finished the dish uncovered, as the recipe says to do. Burnt cheese in the top layer – yummo!

It was to die for.

AW1Ed

Only thing I can think to add would be a couple small hand-fulls of frozen peas, stirred in at the last minute. They won’t over cook that way and would add a nice veg note to the dish.

Healthy, ya know, to go with all that creamy buttery cheese sauce with the tasty burnt bits on top.

Now I’m hungry, dammit.

Claw

Army Times link.

RIP Pilot Troopers.

OWB

No particular knowledge of this incident, of course, but haven’t we historically seen an uptick in aviation accidents flowing lean budget years which made proper maintenance difficult/impossible?

AW1Ed

It’s circular- funding shortfalls means lack of parts and people, means lack of aircraft for aircrews to maintain proficiency = more missteps and accidents. Written in blood and I blame, well, doesn’t really matter. The saving grace is now we seem to be on the road to recovery, but the recovery lags and the military are paying the price. As usual.

11B-Mailclerk

In a way, aircraft are like us.

Older bones, more glitches.

As you age, you get to the point where you spend a great deal of money trying to slow down that process.

No money? Life sucks.

We have been using aircraft heavily, in a seventeen year war, with signs of being multi-generational, and with idiots playing penny-pinch and other idiots trying to be the nice guy.

Wars may be fought by nice guys. They seldom -win-.

There had better be a strong impression of

“… and do not -ever- piss us off again. Or there might not even be eyes to weep or voices to wail”

If you want to claim the moral high ground in war, you have to end the war. That -requires- a decisive victory. Otherwise, it never ends.

https://adamappelemt.wordpress.com/2018/02/04/adam-appel-and-alaskas-elder-fraud-case-against-him/

He claims that he’s never been investigated yet yet anyone can go on the Alaska Court System website as shown at the link above and see that he was investigated by the Alaska Office of Elder Fraud. The case was driven by his own mother. Adam Appel settled that case only because of the lawsuit.

Whats worrisome here is that Adam Appel currently owns a Street Medic charity and solicits donations.

https://adamappelfraud.wordpress.com/2015/02/15/adam-appel-lies-about-being-in-a-plane-crash-in-fiji-in-january-2015/

Adam Appel has a history of telling false narratives about himself. He even lied about being in a plane crash while in Fiji in 2015. There is no doubt that Adam “Beowulf” Appel (as he calls himself now was in Fiji, it’s just that every known aircraft accident is documented and it’s clear that the crash in question had no passengers.

“Pants on fire” fits Adam Appel to a tee.

And in the “So, what else is new” category, there are reports that Syria used gas against civilians again. Of course, “a hospital” was targeted and whole families were killed. Color me skeptical. The reports have not been confirmed and, I don’t know about you, but the timing of this strikes me as odd, coinciding with Trump’s announcement that US forces would be pulled from that shithole. And is there a checklist with these reports? It seems that if it’s not a school, a hospital is targeted and if neither of those then it’s an orphanage.

Monkey see, monkey do. Last month, public school teachers went on strike and won everything they demanded. So, now, KY, AZ, and OK teachers are making noise, staging walk-outs and walk-ins and making demands. Some ‘protest’ signs in KY read, “Don’t make us go West Virginia on you!” Few states require consideration of student performance on standardized tests in teachers evaluations. Must be nice to have a job in which the results of one’s efforts are neither here nor there when it comes to retention and raises. It must also be nice to be paid for degrees held, rather than teaching ability.

And now a word about weather forecasters. Overall, they suck. Their websites suck. Their predictions suck. Their global-warming drum banging sucks. Among the many weather sites, I have found one that’s good. It’s called Weather Underground. The name is terrible, for those of us who lived during the 60s and paid attention, but their predictions are their website isn’t a mess. On the other hand, there’s The Weather Channel, which has to be the worst in all categories and, maybe tied with it for wrong weather predictions, is Accuweather. Accuweather is so bad, I would not trust it to tell me the current weather conditions anywhere. That is all.
