Norks fire missile over Japan

| August 29, 2017

Stars & Stripes reports that North Korea fired a ballistic missile that went over the Japanese mainland this morning prompting President Trump to put his foot down stating that “all options are on the table”;

It was the second launch in three days and sharply escalated tensions as the United States and South Korea wrap up joint war games on the divided peninsula this week.

North Korea has conducted dozens of missile tests, including 13 this year, and officials said the one launched Tuesday broke into three pieces that apparently caused no damage before splashing into the Pacific.

But the symbolism of a North Korean missile soaring over Japan — a staunch U.S. ally — for the first time since 2009 was powerful, signaling defiance and progress in the communist state’s efforts to develop a nuclear-tipped missile that could target the U.S. mainland.

South Korean Air Force responded by dropping bombs on a range near the North Korean border. Japan plans to complain to the UN. The North Koreans have fired missiles over Japan in the past, but they claimed that those were satellite launches.

The Japanese tested their Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile defense a few hours after the launch.

Damn! I knew I should have been watching that Fat Basterd more closely.

My bad. Dropped the ball on this one. Sorry about that.

Well, I hope the Fool in the North makes more mistakes. He should be careful what he wishes for. He might get it.

Retired Grunt

I’m just praying for peace. Please, dear God, not another war.

Roger in Republic

It won’t be a war, it will be cold blooded murder, on a large scale. A very large scale.

desert

Would NOT be murder, it would merely be the stepping on a vermin!!

John Robert Mallernee

President Trump has announced that ALL options are now on the table.

Commissar

Then everyone looked at Mattis and he shook he head “no”.

Five Beers

More fantasy stories, bozo? Making up more lies to support your malignant spite?

Provide proof of what you said about SecDef Mattis, or shut your Goddamned yap.

Commissar

I am not claiming it actually happened.

Just making a statement that the adults in the room know damn wall that “all” options are NOT on the table.

Trump’s bluster is for the “reality” TV show in his own mind.

swormy

I prefer his supposed “bluster” than the appeasement of the past.

desert

You sir are a lying, ignorant p.o.s. you haven’t a freaking CLUE about anything….you brainwashed soros puppet, you pathetic clinton ass kisser, went through 47 tubes of chapstick just kissing their respective asses didn’t you?

desert

you got that one right…kommissar is dreaming again….must be bad “stuff”!

Dinotanker

Didn’t the Japanese change their Constitution a few years ago; something to do with removing some of the Defense Force lingo so that they could go out and fight wars… Im probably a tad off base on that. If someone could square me away Id greatly appreciate it.

Im thinking that possibly the residents of the Land of the Rising Sun aren’t going to be too patient with the buddies across the Sea of Japan.

The Other Whitey

I hadn’t heard that. Of course, I’m neither Japanese nor a fan of their weird-ass cartoons, so I don’t generally follow their internal politics. Still, that could make things interesting…

Yef

Whoa, whoa, anime is dat shit.

Watching Porco Rosso tonight.

The Other Whitey

To each his own. But that shit’s still creepy as all hell.

“The Japanese tested their Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile defense a few hours after the launch”

That would be just under a few hours too late.

Claymore

I’d be more impressed if the Japanese implemented their Gojira Protocol and turned North Korea into a wasteland of miniature cities and toys stomped flat by a dude in a rubber dinosaur suit.

QM1

He’s not going to enjoy his lavish Western lifestyle as much when he’s hiding in some hole in the ground for an extensive amount of time.

26Limabeans

Raytheon stock is looking pretty good.
Radar and missles. Aegis and Patriot.

Not a stock tip. Just an observation.

W2

They will build AEGIS Ashore for sure now. Raytheon stock is indeed looking good.

26Limabeans

Just deposited my monthly pension check today. Great company to work for and they really like veterans.
I was on the SM-1 in the early days with GD and then to Aegis and Patriot.
Great career path shaping up for both Army and Navy trained vets.

Gravel

It’s time to shoot down anything and everything that North Korea launches that is on a trajectory over friendly territory.

Wilted Willy

I really hope Trump launches a cruise missile right up the little fat bastards ass! We need to take care of this little fat fuck now! Why wait until he kills people? Blow his ass up now before he hurts anyone??

Ex-PH2

Well, but he fires so many test missiles now, so how will we or Japan tell which are test-only and which are live and hot?

Yef

Shooting test missiles over Japan looks like a casus belli to me.

I think should take him out before he kills.

Ex-PH2

How? Bribe one of his generals? Send him a care package with poisoned cheese? (I’m joking, y’know.)

Not arguing your point, Yef, but you have to find the Fat Little Basterd and that’s the hard part. It would be easier to nuke his underground nuke test site.

And he’s already done his share of killing, anyway.

Green Thumb

Once again I would be remiss if I did not point out that this turd looks like he just stepped in a steaming pile of Phil Monkress.

A Proud Infidel®™

Here we go again with fatty ‘lil Kim-Cheese having hissy fits with missiles. Have any of them ever hit anything other than open ocean?

sj

Ah for the ole days when FatBoy might have assumed room temp from a bad batch of kimchi that was mysteriously given to him.

Commissar

When would that have been?

We never killed his father or grandfather. The Kim regime has run the country since 1948.

A Proud Infidel®™

Yep, Kim Il Sung fled to Siberia when the Japanese invaded and that’s where he learned Communism and was installed as a USSR Puppet Dictator after the Ivans liberated Korea from the Japanese North of the 38th Parallel. It’s also been said that Kim Jong [Mentally] Il was born in Siberia and that’s where he drowned his own Brother when they were kids.

The Other Whitey

Japs never did get along with Koreans…

Commissar

Their younger generations do. Particularly those born after 1980.

And North Korea has a community of expats that live in Japan and provide support and information to NK. In fact most NK elites that can afford it and get permission to do so will send their kids to Japan for their high school and university education.

A Proud Infidel®™

There is still a LOT of proverbial bad blood between Koreans and Japanese, ditto with Chinese people. I remember when i was in Korea from ’92 to ’93 when Karaoke Taxicabs were becoming the rage there and the Korean Government decided to put out the word that Karaoke Taxicabs were a Japanese invention and THAT put a halt to them overnight! Anyone who has ever taken a cab ride through Seoul in a Korean taxicab KNOWS that ain’t something for the faint of heart, after my first ride in one it took me five minutes to get out of my seat because I had to GENTLY pull the seat upholstery out of my tightly shut sphincter!

Devtun

All options on the table. Translation: OK we cave, we’ll give you whatever you want & even Dennis Rodman.

Commissar

Yeah, there is no way all option are on the table.

Nobody wants a war in Korea. Except Trump.

Old Trooper

You are so full of shit that your eyes are brown. How the fuck can you make a stupid comment like that and still walk around without supervision? You have got to be one of the dumbest fuckers out there. Look up stupid in the dictionary and your picture is right there.

Oh yeah, Trump is just itching for a war in Korea!! Why? Because he’s a semi-conservative? Because he’s not a drooling moonbat leftist pile of shit like you? Really, I would love to find out how all you dumb-ass leftist come to the conclusion that everyone but you want war. Where does that stupid line a though even come from. I don’t know which is dumber; the one saying the stupid shit, or the dumbass that believes is.

Stupid bastard.

To all other; I apologize for my rant, but my tolerance for dumbasses is at an all time low today.

26Limabeans

“I apologize for my rant”

None needed. He keeps shiting on his own comments. Even when he says something interesting and god forbid valid, he shits all over it with the TDS.

desert

Old Trooper you are right on and speak for a lot of us…can’t understand a brain dead maggot like the kommissar..insanity loose on the streets!

desert

You worthless prick, did you ever , EVER have a freaking thought, that didn’t include badmouthing trump? You wouldn’t make a pimple on his ass, you are just jealous!! STFU!

A Proud Infidel®™

I say we LET fatty ‘lil Kim-Cheese KEEP Dennis Rodman the next time he goes over there!!!

Pinto Nag

Okay, somebody has to ask the question: When KJU finally screws his nerve up enough to finally drop a nuke on us or one of our allies, what happens then?

I honestly don’t have a clue — that’s why I ask.

Ex-PH2

You shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

Pinto Nag

I always wondered if that was before or after Fenrir swallowed the sun…

Ex-PH2

That’s a good question.

Are we approaching Ragnarok (in German, Götterdämmerung)? It almost seems that way.

Or is it a symptom of something else?

A Proud Infidel®™

“…(in German, Götterdämmerung)…”
Isn’t that German for “DAS $*@*%&#!!! PHONE ISH RINGINGK?”

Ex-PH2

No, API, it means ‘twilight of the gods’.

desert

No, end is not yet…but….VERY, VERY CLOSE!

Commissar

Kim is unpredictable but their nuclear arsenal is far more valuable NOT being used than used.

And while they do have disputed claims of being able to miniaturize their nuclear warheads to put it on a missile it is unlikely that they have much capacity to launch it anywhere near the US mainland.

More likely they would nuke a US base in Japan but only after a war was initiated.

But if they ever do use a nuke on the US, Japan, or South Korea we will decapitate their regime with a overwhelming force and then hold the line so to speak while we deal with a massive humanitarian crisis.

11B-Mailclerk

You are hoping we can wait him out, correct? Hypothesizing that some group or individual will remove him, and be willing to de-nuclearize? To to at least be sane and non-threatening?

You also seem to be assuming he is currently sane, and will stay sane.

Is the regime-change person or force likely to be more or less rational than the current regime? Revolutions are often quite messy, and driven by fanatics and/or the desperate.

If we do wait, and they continue to grow their capabilities, what happens in the ” We retaliate-decapitate” scenario? Is the body count after waiting significantly less or significantly more?

If there is a regime change, chaos and dire poverty are likely outcomes. How does that impact control of the nuclear weapons? Is this control improved by waiting or does that risk grow exponentially with the weapon count?

I suspect that this is a case where waiting is working against us. The trend lines are grim, and get more so with time. Kim III’s successor may well be every more uncoupled from reality, and less scrupulous, or just far more desperate. Then what?

desert

what the hell do you think…..INSTANT parking lot for S Korea!

11B-Mailclerk

The fallout from nuclear strikes on the DPRK will be filthy beyond belief.

Much of their key military infrastructure is hardened and underground, in the sides of mountains that tend to be granite. Thus the strikes will have to be surface-bursts or sub-surface. These produce gigantic amounts of fallout, that will drift over various neighbors, who will be rather annoyed at the resultant mass-casualties. Friends and rivals alike.

One of those wil be South Korea.

One of those will be China.

Several other potential recipients are also armed with nuclear weapons of their own.

So a nuclear attack on the DPRK has soem significant blowback for us. Including the fallout. it will drift here on prevailing winds, quickly.

Pinto Nag

And that’s my question. We really can’t nuke NK, but we also can’t let some rogue nation drop a nuke wherever they like. So what do we DO about it?

Ex-PH2

MOABs, perhaps. Cluster bombing with those provides shock waves, destruction, and subsurface disturbance, but no fallout.

Graybeard

I like the picture of carpet bombing the NORKs military facilities with MOABs.

Commissar

It is an interesting fact that NK did this on the anniversary of the annexation of Korea by Japan in 1907.

11B-Mailclerk

If the DPRK gets scary enough, they may finally induce Japan to abandon their “pacifist” Constitution, and re-arm as any other major industrial power does.

And -that- will start a whole bunch of other stuff.

Ex-PH2

That might be their goal, 11B-Mailclerk.

Commissar

That is essentially already happening. While they have not changed their constitution they have both built up their defense forces and increased its capabilities to project force in recent years. They already dropped their spending cap on the military and are not spending at an all time high.

They a pretty much creating a military with the capacity to project force beyond the provision of the constitution so if they ever need to do so they can change the constitution but won’t have to take time to build up their military after the fact.

11b-mailclerk

Ever see the proposed designs for light carriers built on container ship hulls? It is a take on the old US CVEs on WW2.

A barrage ship design is also impressive.

But the key item is “will they rescind thier adversion to nukes” even if covertly. And if so, how uickly does China do the math and decide a bloodbath extinction later?

They havent forgotten Nanking or “Manchuko”.

-we- might be the only country that can take out the DPRK, that wouldnt -likely- trigger a regional holocaust.

11b-mailclerk

Whoopsie

…decide a bloodbath war now versus national extinction later…

desert

Old Trooper you are right on and speak for a lot of us…can’t understand a brain dead maggot like the kommissar..insanity loose on the streets!

11b-mailclerk

I tend to think that -if- we have to fight, sooner is advantageous, as the body count goes up with each nuke they add.

But in your view, how many folks die in a “decapitation” attack on the DPRK? US/allied and DPRK? Any casualties elsewhere?

I would be surprised if less than 5 million civilians -starve- in the immediate aftermath, if -zero- nukes go off.

How would we feed five million starving koreans post war? That would likely exceed even our logistical might.

War is -messy-.

Koreans are -proven- fighters. Tough, loyal, and quite effective. This isnt going to be like Iraq. Look at the last time we fought there. We almost lost.

We are better than in 1950, but so are they.

So we had better get it -just- right, or 5 to 10 million civilians will die needlessly.

Victory usually goes to the -shrewd- not the fierce.
