Wednesday morning feel good stories

In Des Moines, Iowa;

The homeowner, who’s not currently living at the residence, told police his home has experienced a series of burglaries. He decided to stay at the home Monday night to protect his property.

A woman did break into the house and she and the homeowner struggled.

“Complicated case. We’re trying to put things together. What we do know is that, there was a burglary attempt, the suspect in that, and the homeowner became involved in a physical altercation. That fight got pretty serious. It escalated to the point where the homeowner felt that he was being strangled and needed to defend his life and at that time he shot the suspect,” said Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department.

Authorities say, the woman left the scene and called for medics from 29 East McKinley Avenue. She was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

In Columbus, Ohio;

The victim told [the police that] a man, identified as Michael Nigro, had opened his door and began firing at him. The victim, identified as Kynneth Mitchell, returned fire and struck the suspect.

Police say Nigro then fled the scene and returned home.

Once he was home, Nigro called the Worthington Police Department to report that he had been “robbed and shot.” He was taken to OSU in stable condition and released after treatment.

Police say the Worthington Detectives could not find any evidence to back up Nigro’s version of the story.

Columbus Police talked to Mitchell and gathered evidence at the Dawnlight Avenue scene and at OSU. Mitchell also picked Nigro out of a lineup.

After being released from the hospital, Nigro was arrested and charged with felonious assault.

Based on the details provided, it seems that the female intruder in the “complicated case” may actually enter the realm of Juanita, Sha-nay-nay, Big Maude, and “Strap-On” Sally on roughly equal terms.

And poor Michael…with his last name, the jokes write themselves.

I like a challenge and some subtlety in humor so it took me no time at all to dismiss the easy and obvious Nigro jokes. Still…

Nigro is a common Eye-talian surname…yep, literally translates to “black”.
