Near Chicago, Illinois;

The male homeowner was sleeping on a basement couch when he heard someone trying to enter through a window, authorities said. The resident retrieved a semi-automatic pistol and fired at the intruder, later identified by authorities as [Erik G. Mota, 28].

After the shot was fired, the intruder ran from the house and drove off in a vehicle, which was parked nearby. Area police departments were alerted, authorities said, and Mota was picked up in Vernon Hills a short time later.

Authorities said Mota burglarized two vehicles in the home’s driveway before trying to break into the residence.

Charges were not filed against the homeowner.

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 14th, 19-year-old Terione Dominique Williams forced his way into a home and was made DRT by the resident. It seems that Terione was an experienced criminal until the resident unceremoniously ended his career;

Court records show that Williams was arrested for armed robbery in 2013. In Louisiana, armed robbery carries a maximum sentence of 99 years.

Facing a possible life sentence, Williams took a plea deal on February 4, 2015 for an amended and less severe charge of simple robbery.

Judge Lou Daniel sentenced Williams on February 26, 2015 to seven years hard labor. Williams was given credit for time served as a result of his arrest and the court suspended all but the last four years of the sentence. He was placed on active, supervised probation for five years.

The last probation review on record was from January 2016. The court allowed Williams to enroll at BRCC for its GED program. The court also ordered that he continue on probation.

On December 16, 2016, however, Williams was arrested again for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and resisting an officer.

Records from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison show that Williams was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Feb. 3, 2017.

Good job, justice system.

43-year-old Ethan Allen tried win back his estranged wife with a base ball bat in Atmore, Alabama;

According to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks, Allen and his wife are in the process of obtaining a divorce. The man who was attacked by Allen had recently been dating the woman, who left her vehicle at the car lot while she and he went to see a movie in Malbis.

When they returned to the site in order for the woman to pick up her car, Allen was reportedly waiting for them. Reports show he approached the couple, brandishing the baseball bat. He reportedly began swinging it, striking one of the two at least once.

The other man grabbed his gun and shot Allen once, hitting him “in the lower extremities,” inflicting a “non-life threatening injury,” Brooks said.

A convenience store thief in DeKalb County, Georgia was DRT after his last job when the clerk answered his five rounds with bullets of his own.
