Mick sends us a link to 13 News Now which reports that the Navy is gearing up for disaster relief in the Caribbean. USS George Washington and USS Comfort are on their way to Haiti in response to that government’s request for assistance;

U.S. Southern Command has also redeployed nine Marine helicopters and 100 personnel from Honduras to Grand Cayman to prepare for relief operations, according to a SOUTCOM release.

Members from Joint Task Force-Bravo and Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Southern Command boarded CH-53E Super Stallions, CH-47 Chinooks, and UH-60L Blackhawks and shipped out early Tuesday, according to the release, and are standing by for “heavy-lift support,” according to the release.

“Our country is a compassionate nation with a long history of helping countries impacted by natural disasters like this,” said SOUTHCOM boss Adm. Kurt Tidd in the release. “We’re ready to support USAID, if needed, to save lives, alleviate human suffering and provide aid to those afflicted by this storm.”

Great. Let’s hope six Haitians in a row boat don’t take them hostage.

Ex-PH2

Glad I swallowed the tea before I read that, AirCav.

OC

Now that’s phuking funny and sad all at once Air Cav.

Instinct

Now, we all know this is impossible. I keep hearing from the left how the military is all just a bunch of baby killers who only go places for American Imperialism!!

Obviously there must be oil reserves in Hati that we are going there to take over.

I’m sure Comrade Poodledick will show up soon to explain it all to us.

OldManchu

Oh and explain he will!

desert

No…pervert of the year, Bubba clinton will show up promising the sky but stealing all the funds intended for haiti, just like the last time…..two things are for sure….Israel will send a medical team, and muslim scum will sit on their dead satan worshiping asses and do NOTHING!

Graybeard

OK, my old cynic is coming out.
America is evil, cruel, and corrupt and we want nothing to do with them – until our a$z is in the fire and we need someone to pull us out.
The military is just a bunch of Rambo’s and John Wayne’s out to kill, rape and pillage and oppress women and LeGBiTes – until our world has gone to hell in a handbasket and we need them to pull us out.

Meanwhile – heroes will continue being heroes, sheepdogs will continue being sheepdogs, because it is what they do.

Mick

Yes indeed.

No one wants the U.S. military to be anywhere near them, that is until they want the U.S. military to be near them.

sj

Where’s the humanitarian support from the muzzies?

Graybeard

They want to know if there will be goats in danger, first.

lily

If they can’t build a mosque to spread terrorism they will be busy elsewhere.

A Proud Infidel®™

Likely having an orgy anytime someone leaves their goat herds unguarded.

MSGT_RET

A technicality I know, but the correct designation for the Comfort is USNS vice USS. The primary difference between the two is that a United States Ship (USS) is a commissioned naval vessel crewed by military personnel, while a United States Naval Ship in non-commissioned vessel that’s crew consists mainly of civilians and small military staff.

HMC Ret

I was on USS Repose (AH-16) back in the day

11B-Mailclerk

“Non commissioned” ship?

A Petty Ship?

Navy rates are still confusing…..

gitarcarver

As of 11 AM, the track of Matthew has it making landfall oh……. somewhere like right over my home.

This is not going to be fun.

Eggs

Be safe!!

Graybeard

Sounds like a good reason for going somewhere else if at all possible. Having been in a few hurricane evacuations, I know it is not always possible.
Prayers for safety.

I don’t want to sound cold but if you don’t make it, but your house does, can I have your TV?

2/17 Air Cav

Also, you don’t happen to have tix to the Army/Navy game, do you, gitarcarver?

A Proud Infidel®™

Methinks it would be nice if the US Gummint spent anywhere near the amount of money helping Vets that it does on third world fleabags that will stop giving a damn as soon as they’re done eating.

OC

^^^^AMEN Brother!!!!

NECCSEABEECPO

That place sucks, we were on a Civil Humanitarian deployment 2008 around South/Central America, and re-tasked with Disaster Recovery Mission to Haiti, after Hurricane Ike,and four other ones that destroyed the place. Then we deployed a Recovery Detachment after the earth quake 2010, place sucks.

Graybeard

I remember some report that showed that Haiti after all of the humanitarian aid was no better off, and possibly worse off, than before the humanitarian aid.

Anyone else remember seeing that, are am I hallucinating again?

NECCSEABEECPO

I think you correct, we have been in and out of there going back to 93, and I think before. The UN has a large operations base, that has been permanently there sense 1993. We have sent all kinds of CA/HA teams there, for some time, my Battalion deployed a DET there in 98, 99, and others have been continually going in and out, with NO improvements, That place will never recover know matter how much we put into recovery. The crazy thing is DOM REP is not so bad, separated by a mountain, one side green the other all mud.

Graybeard

And a history – if my memory does not fail me I remember Haiti being where some ghetto-lord called “Papa Doc” had his turf when I was a wee lad.

Just another poster child for authoritarian utopias.

HMC Ret

I see the Humanitarian Service Medal being awarded for these folks.

jonp

Why doesnt Haiti ask Hillary for the millions she and Bill siphoned off the last round of relief?

How many times and how much money are we going to spend on shitholes around the world? We are broke. If the UN and the left scream constsntly that we are not the worlds police then we also should not be the worlds caretaker and relief agency. Let Obamas favorite agency that he prostrates and apologizes for the US to, the UN do it
