With friends like these…
First read this story from Daily Caller about Putin’s response to Obama’s intention to return an armored brigade to Europe in the face of new Russian geopolitical threats. It seems the Russian despot is once again upstaging our bicycle-helmeted commander-in-chief to the tune of more than two divisions, once again playing tournament chess while Obama plays kindergarten checkers.
Then read this little jewel of information regarding the soldiering status of what is supposedly our most stalwart ally in Europe in standing up to any threats from the Russian Bear.
I hope this juxtaposition of news doesn’t make any of you gag on your Wheaties.

Just about as impotent as some Florida non Lawyer, Non CPO bicycle riding shitbag we all know.
The German army peeps get paid for working overtime?
What??????????????????????
(Falls down laughing, scares the cat.)
Okay, what happens if they actually have to go to war?
. . . . who needs enemas?
Really, OT rules? What will the Deutch do during an all out pitched war and battle?? The mind boggles!
I am SO glad I have my DD214 woobie.
Just want to make sure everyone is tracking this, the DD214 ain’t a 100% get-out-of-mismanaged-peace card.
If you are within 8 years of signing up for enlisted service you are still within the Mandatory Service Obligation (MSO). Look at your enlistment papers.
If you have a retirement pay from your branch you can get called back until your 60’s. (60 enlisted, 62 officers, 64 general officers, something like this, where’s my coffee)
The green weenie strikes again.
If you’re in a critical rate/MOS, they’ll call you back, regardless. You can be out for 10 years and get the recall notice.
I believe they recalled old Gunner’s Mates to help instruct the gun crews of the Iowa Class Battleships when they recommissioned in the 80’s.
That they did. No one had “hands on experience” with all the mechanics of operating those 16-inch guns.
I am beyond all of those criteria:
I was enlisted.
I’m over 60 yo.
I’ve been out for 17 years.
The radio and communications equipment I used to work on has been almost totally upgraded and replaced.
Oh, they’d still want you in case the old stuff had to be pulled back together, BW.
Hell, I have been out for 30, and the country I targeted joined NATO a few years later. As the recruiter told me when I tried to go back in in ’90 for Desert Shield – I’m a civilian for life.
Vlad, honey – отвали и умереть!
LT: “It’s an attack! Heinrich! Get your squad to the east perimeter!”
Heinrich: “Sorry, Herr Leutnant, it’s Sunday. Our collective bargaining agreement says no work on Sunday. If you order us to work, it’s double time plus compensatory time, so we’ll need your order signed and dated.”
Time for Darwin to have a hand in the survival of modern-day Europe. We need to pick up our toys and come home.
My God. I thought I was reading duffleblog articles. Nope. Troops training with broomsticks. Overtime rules. Just unbelievable. How embarrassing.
Is it really for the troops, or is this rule meant to minimize the chances of melting those oh-so-cool-looking new G-36 rifles? God help the krauts if they get into an actual gunfight.
“juxtaposition” Must be an Army thing. Is it like some kinda defensive perimeter deployment?
Or, does it have something to do with grabbing your ankles?
Maybe PT is having typing problems today and meant “just a position”
I’ll try to translate into Marine-speak for ya, DH: it pretty much means, “One of these things is not like the other . . . . ” (smile)
Dave, thanks for reminding me I need to keep words to three syllables or less for my marine readers.
Marine reader-is that an oxymoron, Hondo?
And no, Dave, an oxymoron is not a super-clean marine.
Heh…
That actually was funny. Another three digit ASVAB score lurking about.
That kind of snarky remark I have come to expect from that Hobo guy. I am not sure he is having a positive influence on you PT.
All meant in good humor, Brother Dave.
Semper Fi…
I just turned 69 and for a chance to fight Vlad I would drop everything and go back in. The Army would have to cut me some slack and make everything wheelchair accessable and I would need a two hour nap from 1400 to 1600 each day. Other than that I’m good to go.
I think they’re already mandating the nap. Also, I don’t have my old PT card handy but I believe at your age you need to only do a half a push-up, something resembling a sit-up and run two miles in four days.
No damn PT! I was in the ASA and we quit doing PT when we left Basic. I took one more PT test in the three years and ten months after boot camp.
As for the German Army thing, don’t laugh.
I remember the good old days at Ft. Hood when there was no downrange training on weekends (during a 2 week FTX for instance we’d bring the kids home Friday night and roll back out Monday morning) and in Garrison you had to have an O5’s permission to work past 1730 and an O6 to approve work past 1800. Made it fun getting vehicles fixed with parts that came in on the 1600 parts truck and you needed the vehicle first thing tomorrow…
RUSSIA????? Isn’t that the place where mostly Communists live???? Not to worry…..Check with Larsie Poo. You know, the Lars who said “People who are afraid of Communism are foolish”. That’s all, move on folks.
