Garcetti; LA’s homeless vet problem bigger than he expected

| August 31, 2015

From the Los Angeles Daily News comes an article which reports that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is backing away from his claim that he will solve the homeless veteran problem in Los Angeles by the end of this year. It seems that the more veterans that they house, the more veterans they find. Funny how that works, huh?

Speaking with the Los Angeles News Group editorial board, Garcetti said Thursday the effort might take an additional six months, and that not all homeless veterans will actually be housed.

His recalibration underscores the enormity of the problem in Los Angeles and the challenges facing homeless service providers. L.A. organizations have housed more than 3,700 homeless veterans since January 2014, according to a recent city tally, but have more than 2,600 remaining.

I wonder what verification process they’re using to weed out phony veterans who see an opportunity to get housing.

Garcetti appealed to the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee in July for more funding to meet the goal by the end of 2015. He said the city needed an additional $5.1 million. In March, the VA announced $30 million in grants to support homeless services in the L.A. area.

I guess it’s more attractive to just house anyone with federal money without going through a verification process. Just meet the numbers, and collect the checks.

FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The way the federal and VA grants are set up is a loophole in itself.

25% of the funding can go to administrative costs and the non-veteran population.

The other 75% covers all veterans with any type of discharge minus DD. When they are pushed aside, they are put in the other line; the 25%. They are then counted as a statistic in accomplishing the mission to solve homelessness.

It is a fucking joke. The social workers (most cases)in charge have been told this but do not care. It is all about the numbers. When they take this approach, posers and “less-than-honorable” shitbags can filter through thus sucking up resources that should go to those that did their time honorably but fell on hard times.

And the best part? MacDonald knows this.

Ah, but did he say from what military?

How many are illegal aliens who were in armies in Central and South America?

I’m guessing he’s counting them too…

That’s what I was thinking as well, and how does one verify Military Service in any of those countries?

Housing homeless vets from other countries is NOT our problem.

However, I hear than INS has some nice temporary digs for folks waiting on southbound flights.

Yeh really, deserters from the mexican army, isis flakes, probably more liars in the group than in LA City Hall!

Unverified veterans receiving free housing, and somebody is surprised by that? Personally, I’m at least thankful some vets are being taken care of. Expecting accountability with distribution of vet-designated funds???? Or ANY designated gub directed funds…….whodathunk it? Remember but a few years back when black farmers who had been denied farm loans hit the jack pot with free checks in the amount of 50 K…..in ADDITION to a second check in the amount of $12.5 K meant to cover the taxes brought on by the windfall of the original check! FAR more requested and were GRANTED than the number of working black farmers during the period actually covered. Distributing free gub money equals pretty much guaranteed votes. Why would people want to wreck the perfect system?
