Lucas saving the world
Andy11M sends us a link to ABC News which tells the story of police dog, Lucas, who rescued his deputy sheriff handler, Todd Frazier who stopped at a remote, deserted rest stop to check on what looked like an unresponsive driver. The deputy was then ambushed;
“Two individuals surprised Deputy Frazier from the shadows and an altercation ensued,” Adam said. “One cut him across the forehead with a razor, one choked him, and one grabbed his legs to carry him to the edge of the woods.”
Frazier was able to hit a button to release his K-9, Lucas, a black Belgian Malinois, from his car, Adam said. Lucas bit the attackers, who then tried to flee in their car.
As they drove away, Lucas was still hanging onto the leg of one of the assailants, Adam said. As a result of the altercation, Lucas chipped a few teeth and bruised his shoulder.
According to the article, both officers have returned to duty.

“A manhunt is under way after a Hancock County Sheriff’s Department deputy was saved by his dog from an ambush attack by three men.[…] The car, a blue Lincoln Town Car with a darker vinyl top[…]The suspects fled in the Town Car, which police describe as possibly a 2000 model. At least one of the suspects will have serious dog bites and the suspects may have crossed into Louisiana.”
In an interview with the sheriff today, he mentions the suspect vehicle’s 22 inch chrome rims.
Poor dog will have to spend a month licking his ass to get the taste out of his mouth.
Here’s hoping that the “assailants” got the ass kicking they so richly deserve.
If I were still a cop, my head would be on a swivel. We’ve always been targets, but these days it is something else how bad it’s gotten.
It’s good he had his K-9 with him. I believe the days of cops riding by themselves should be over. Double the number of officers, put two to a car. And we need to make a deliberate attack on, and/or murder of, a police officer a capital offense again. You ambush a cop, you ride the lightening. No exceptions.

I agree completely. While I can see where this would put a strain on some small departments, it only makes sense to go full Adam-12, with Malloy AND Reed in the patrol car. Officers would be safer and more perceptive to threats or crimes taking place. In cases such as the death of Walter Scott there’d be another officer who could: a) testify as to what occurred prior to the video, whether it helped or hurt his partner or b) potentially identify that Slager didn’t need to be on patrol that day. Let’s not mention how much would be saved by reducing the number of patrol cars on the streets.

it should have always been 2 man cars! I was in the business in the 70’s and setups were not uncommon even back then!

Check out the third picture in this article. I think it’s what they used to call a “squirrel cage”. If it were up to me, I’d hold the scum bags in the squirrel cage until they exhausted all their appeals. Then I’d get Old Sparky ready for action!

And I agree: in places that are thinly populated, having someone human or canine in the car wiht you is a safety factor.
The attackers were probably not aware that a nickname for the Belgian Malinois breed is “Maligator.”
It is believed the assailants were members of the Black Gangster Disciples gang, possibly from New Orleans, and that this gang had urged members in that region to “kill any white cop.”
Also that they stated to the cop they were going to cut his throat in the woods.
Thank God for that dog. Hope the knuckle- draggers who did this are caught and imprisoned forever.
Rest area he was attacked in is on I-10 @ Stennis. Damn good thing he had his dog. Now if NOPD comes through with a dog bite victim…

Cops right now are on alert at all times. Sad to say, but this is the end result of two generations of liberal policies in the cities.

The whole thing is a mess and I wish all cops a safe return to their homes and families.
One thing for certain, if I were a Baltimore cop I would walk off the job right now, they have no backup, none whatsoever and tare on the hit list of every thug in Baltimore. That population is huge and growing larger by the day.
