Jason Scaletta stolen valor arrest update
The local news, WMDT, in Quantico, Maryland is covering the Jason Scaletta/Jason Grey arrest;
47 ABC talked with Scaletta Thursday before his arrest. He said the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs would be coming down to Quantico Friday to hold a formal press conference to unveil Scaletta’s military records. However, that did not happen.
[…]
The documents also reveal Scaletta has past felony convictions for theft and obtaining money under false pretenses back in 2008. Jerry Black, the director of Veterans Support Centers of America tells 47 ABC he was blindsided by this information and thought of Scaletta like a son.
[…]
Different military advocacy groups found on the internet have been questioning Scaletta’s validity. According to Black, Scaletta doesn’t hold any of the awards he claimed to have.
Scaletta reportedly claimed to have those awards when he asked for sponsorships for the V.S.C.O.A PAWS assistance dogs training program for veterans. Black tells us the entire Organization is heart broken by this discovery. He says they’re working with law enforcement on this investigation and hope Scaletta is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Yeah, VSCOA was blindsided by the charges, but only because they ignored what we’ve been trying to tell them for the past four months. I wouldn’t feel sorry for them at this point – I also wouldn’t give them a dime. If George Mutter didn’t bother to tell them about our investigation, they should fire his ass, too.
Scaletta is being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center. Court records show he is not scheduled to appear in court until May.
Good, at least we know where he’ll be.
We got a look at Scaletta’s NGB-22, the National Guard version of the DD214. The discharge was “uncharacterized” and the reason for his discharge was “Failure to report to IADT Phase I or II” meaning the he never completed Basic Combat Training and his Advanced Individual Training. In other words, he collected a pay check from the Maryland National Guard for four years and seven months and never did a thing to earn the uniform, which, I guess, is why he figured that he could just slap on some medals and badges that he hadn’t earned.
There is a video report at the link at WMDT.

Bubba and Thor had no comment. But they smiled broadly in anticipation. (smile)
Tiny’s waiting at the reception station and can hardly wait to give him a great big good job welcoming present !!!
Today’s Lunch Menu for Jason – Cock Meat Sandwich with “horseradish” sauce…
You forgot the Tube Steak with extra-special cream filling that I’m sure he’s had already! 😈
Special dressings for special flavors.
I hear for their tossed salads, Bubba likes Jelly and Thor likes Syrup…
And croutons… both like croutons!
Cretins?
Another great job by the men and women of TAH.
I guess the FBI agents would be good stand ins for the SECDEF…
I mean, they do work in DC like he does…
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!
Nice job Jonn.
How in the hell does a unit keep you in that long and not force you to attend Basic & AIT?
That’s a great question anybody that’s served in the NG, knows it can be hard at times to get paid at times, Game up Dipshit
We had a guy in my unit spend about 2 years signed up before hitting BCT. First, he changed his MOS from truck driver to Chaplain’s assistant. About a month before he shipped, his car was rear-ended and he broke his leg.
That kept his in the REP platoon until the doctor signed off and then another four months for another MOS slot to open.
For him to have spent 2 years before going to training, he would have had to change his MOS a couple of times. Probably injured or faked an injury. It’s also possible that he didn’t pass his “second” MEPS appointment, but was able to waiver and not get booted from the REP program.
Mr. Scaletta’s activities can be tracked through the Maryland court system during his enlistment. I think his unit kept hoping against hope that he’d grow up and then finally, when he went to jail, they gave up on him.
Why would someone sign their name, take that oath, cross that line, don that uniform, and NOT want to complete Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training?
Shucks, if’n it was me, I’d be on pins and needles, eager and anxious to get all the training I could get, especially since Uncle Sam is paying for it.
Well – – – , that WAS my attitude when I went into the United States Army.
And, it really paid off, too.
If he’d just shown up for his training, he’d have likely earned some real medals, ribands, badges, tabs, and insignia to show off to his girlfriend, for everybody in the United States Army gets something, just for being there.
Come to think of it, he might even have a girlfriend.
I think it was less hee didn’t want, and more the state of Maryland had him otherwise indisposed, what with him having something like 61 previous arrests
It gets thicker every day, I wonder what other con games he’s played with others that will soon be known over the Internet and elsewhere?
I’d expect George Mutter to be unemployed real soon for not letting his bosses know what was going on and/or covering up for Jason.
See what happens when you “run” with the DRC, George?
Don’t about 100% of those who run with the Dutch Rudder Gang end up going full throttle into a concrete wall at some time or another?
More like “crash” into a wall or field 🙂
This clown is up there with Commander Phil Monkress of All-Points Logistics.
He actually is making Phildo look go. Well, nt really, but it is a thought.
I wonder if this turd is affiliated with IVAW?
Seems to fit the mold.
This guy is more like whack-a-mole than anything else. I’d bet that once he’s out of jail, and he will be, at some point, he’ll just start this crap all over again under another alias.
You can’t reform creepazoids like this, because they simply do not care who gets hurt by their crap. They just keep on doing what they were doing until someone puts them out of our misery.
I have had about my fill of ‘Puppies of Pussies’ projects. Seems to me these organizations are full of these idiots. $4,000 to $6,000 for a puppy to make you feel better? To whom does this money go? The people that ‘train’ them? I have seen dope sniffing dogs that can find drugs but that seems like a lot of money to train a dog to calm the nerves of a needy little shit.
Seems to me if the dog really was capable of knowing how to react to some PTSD episode they would sense when the person was faking it as well.
I have been working with my wife’s cat. So far all that he seems to show me is nobody gives a shit if I am upset. He just sits there and looks at me like I am the pussy. Oh well, he didnt cost me damn thing.
Mr. Black, the guy who runs Veterans Support Centers of America has never been a veteran, but he’s adept at getting government money for his efforts. He has surrounded himself with veterans to lend this later endeavor a “feel” for veterans. Yeah, I’m sick of this service dog stuff, too. I’m also sick of the folks who complain about businesses that give them trouble over their service dogs. It all encourages phonies.
I wonder if Mr. Black is afraid that some state or federal agency will be looking at the tax status of VSCA?
Oh, service dogs do have a place for those that have physical disabilities, but I have my doubts about those that have “caught the PTSD”. The ADA has such a broad definition of what is a service animal that people do push it down the throats of anyone that question them.
Funny that you mention that tax exempt status.
The State of Maryland’s Secretary of State’s Office does not show Veterans Support Centers of America (or Veterans Support Centers of America PAWS) as registered with their office.
However, the State of Maryland does not require nonprofit registration under these guidelines: “Who must register? Generally speaking, charities based in Maryland or soliciting in Maryland must register if they receive more than $25,000 in public support.”
A search using the MD SoS website came back with this: “0 records match your request.”
I would suggest those who are in law enforcement investigating this case do the following: “Due to the current upgrading of our database, information on some charitable organizations is not available by searching the database. If you are unable to find information on a specific charitable organization, please e-mail the Charities and Legal Services Division or call 1-800-825-4510 to verify the registration status of a particular charity.”
Now let’s look at the IRS registration as a 501c3…or 501c(x)…
Using their search tool for current or revoked status nonprofits yielded no matches either. The nonprofit online data is listed a being updated on 03/09/15.
This could mean one of two things.
1) They have filed the appropriate paperwork and are waiting for their IRS designation letter (which usually takes a year to obtain in the best of times). In this case they could accept donations but must CLEARLY and publically state to any donors that this new nonprofit is awaiting their IRS designation letter and tell everyone that their donations are NOT tax deductible.
OR
2) They never filed the appropriate paperwork with the IRS.
They are collecting money in violation of IRS rules for nonprofits.
I would suggest that any law enforcement involved in the investigation ask for this “nonprofit’s” EIN and contact the IRS for verification of nonprofit status. Then serve a search warrant for the “nonprofits” records.
And lastly to anyone associated with this nonprofit…destroying evidence is a really bad idea. The truth might set you free. The lies will trip you up every time. Just sayin’

I do not see any 990 forms being filed in the last three years. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen…just do not see it listed.
If anyone has a Guidestar subscription they might want to take a look.
Did this nonprofit have enough donations in the last year(s) to be required to register with the MD SoS office?
Have the IRS 990 forms been filed for the last three years?
Why is this “nonprofit” using multiple names, doing business name etc?
And what is NATRA, Inc.?
NARTA? It is not listed with the MD SoS office.
Hummmm…multiple names associated with this “nonprofit? Different physical addresses? Not registered with the SoS office in MD? No recent IRS 990 filings?
Yep. Legit.
Correction. What is NATRA? It is not listed with the MD SoS office either.
Damn, good work!
Jonn Lilyea. It seems this -Dude- has found a way to make a living Pushing So called service Dogs on vets ! ? ! ?
And other activities in the name of veterans, I believe therapy Dogs have a use just like taking meds can Help, if taken right.
The problem comes in to play when people abuse this tool making everybody look like Crap ! ! ! !
I wish there was a way to license the Dogs and the people that train them to keep out the Fraudsters out.
It’s called the IRS. LOL
I wish I had a dog.
But this apartment building (limited to senior citizens) charges three hundred dollars ($300.00) for the privilege of having a pet.
Plus, there would be the expenses of a pet carrier (for my pickup truck), a dog bed, food dish, water dish, one of those specially made sheets for the dog’s urine (I don’t know what they’re called), shots, spaying/neutering, collar, leash, obedience training, dog blanket, dog coat, dog booties (for Winter snow and ice, and high desert terrain), et cetera.
I think the best dog for me would be one of those rescued Greyhounds, known as the “forty mile an hour couch potato”.
The companionship might help snap me out of my permanent depression, and taking it for daily walks would get me out of my apartment.
We could go hiking and camping up in the mountains.
Mox nix.
Of course, right now, I’m REAL sick, and quite discouraged, because it seems like I’m never going to get well, and the durn blasted VA doesn’t seem to pay any attention to anything I say.
I wonder what I’d do with a dog when I’m sick?
Back during the turn of the Century, I served a two-year full-time mission for The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, wearing a badge and a .357 magnum revolver, as I patrolled the Rocking G Ranch in Jensen, Utah.
My mission companion was a border collie, “Ringo”, the amazing trusty star wonder dog of the Rocking G Ranch, whose canine antics inspired me to write some stories.

Well said!
Word.
Who does not have a service dog these days?
And its usually the “Lets look like a REAL Combat Vet group”. But then again, who is not a combat vet? Right?
Boots, beard, extra tight “Death Before Dishonor” or “Disturbed Veteran” shirt (always untucked), hat w/ military reference, cammo assault pack w/ hydro system, etc.
You get my drift.
While some of these folks might rate a service dog, they make the rest of us, more professional types, look silly when we talk about the military.
“What, were is your gear?”, “You cannot be a combat vet!”.
The first time I ever walked into the Vet Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, they asked me if I was a “Combat Veteran” or a “Vietnam Era Veteran”.
That was the ONLY two options they gave me to choose from.
I didn’t know how to answer.
I hadn’t been an Infantry soldier, so I didn’t consider myself a “Combat Veteran”.
But, I did spend two straight years in the old Republic of Viet Nam, occasionally under fire, so I knew I didn’t fit in the “Vietnam Era Veteran” category.
The good thing about the Vet Center in Salt Lake City was that I met a couple of guys that I was with in Viet Nam.
One is now deceased (he and his brother, also a decorated Viet Nam veteran, had Huntington’s Chorea) and I still correspond with the other guy, who is doing very well these days.
“He said the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs would be coming down to Quantico Friday to hold a formal press conference to unveil Scaletta’s military records.”
Even if that were true it wouldn’t make a difference, in my mind. The VA doesn’t know shit. They have so many phonies receiving benefits and they are aware they are phonies yet they refuse to do shit about it. Just look at that turd Joseph B. Cryer and our favorite plane crashing non- CPO. I wouldn’t trust a damn thing the VA said. Fuck this guy and George Mutter.
By the way, how is it that the Guard pays people for four years even though the turds haven’t even went to basic.
That’s a Great Qustion I have a Feeling there is more to this story left to be told somebody in Maryland I wonder has been doing some bad stupid shit. Can’t wait to see where this ends…
I’m popping my popcorn Lol…
I don’t know how the Guard does it, but in the Army Reserve, Soldiers can get paid for drilling before they ship out to BCT. They’re not allot as many paid MUTA as they would be allotted once they graduate AIT. 💡
Maybe they didn’t PAY him for all that time. I know that some Guard units would “ghost” guys leaving them in slots way past when they ETS’d. I was in MDNG twice and the second time none of the platoons were at strength even with the ghosting.
Heck, after 9/11, I was angling for a deployment and, at the time, the 29th “Let’s Stay” Division wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. So I lined up a job with the AIrNG that was 90% deployed and let my NG enlistment run out. I could NOT get my NGB-22 (which I neded to switch services) and was told it could take a year. My congressman felt that the timeline offered by the full timers in the S-3 was just as big of a no-go as I did. I don’t think that TSO ever got his after he left the NG between Bosnia and the Stan…
Brown Neck Gaitor. I can testify to a lot of what you are saying. I was Cassvac’d for theater and then put through a MEB. after Big Army Retired me. I guess the guard kept on the books for almost 8 months as a Ghost soldier. Driving me Nuts ! ! ! !… I was having all kinds of issues with the VA the Army saying I was still on the guards Books being paid when, I was not, the damn thing is still a issue and I’m sick of it 🙁
In all fairness, the guy who supposedly was to appear at Scaletta’s press conference appears to have been from the Maryland state Department of Veterans Affairs, not the Federal VA. As I recall we’ve seen some shady stuff out of one or two of their employees (MD DVA) in the past.
The former deputy chief for claims, David Clark, and some of his friends padded their military records to get benefits they hadn’t earned for their service.
When I was up in Nevada we had a Vet officer that got busted for claiming to be a POW FROM THE Vietnam War, my first day doing paper work everybody was talking about the FBI coming in and hauling him away in cuffs. So yes there are some dirty people working at the VA
Those guys have no power.
In my state, they run the VSR’s and Burial.
It actually would have been entertaining if the bust had not occurred and all these bigwigs showed up and went ahead with the press conference clownshow complete with big words of praise for mr. phony and he showing off his forged DD-214. Once the 214 was shown to be a fake, the backblast from that press conference would have been fun to watch…
Hopefully, he learns his lesson and, when he gets out again, he brags about doing a couple tours in jail (or more) instead of claiming that he served some active duty/combat tours.
…And sporting his “Bend over and pick up the soap” ribbon!
This guy: one of the best stolen valor cases I’ve seen here so far.4 years without ever graduating BCT, a record down to the floor, even has a secret spy like element. What are the odds of the VA secretary not making that appointment….
We need to ask “Ranger” Burrell.
I wonder if this maggot has been introduced to a set of balls yet?
Since he is up in Maryland, maybe Paul-mer (of the Ballsack) Wickre could help him out and break him in. Possibly give him some pointers?
