Pennsylvania’s veterans’ licenses reform passes State Senate

| March 9, 2015

We’ve mentioned that Pennsylvania decided to stop their practice of “self-certifying” drivers’ veteran status on licenses. The Senate just passed a measure out of that legislative body last week unanimously to make it a $2500 fine and a year in jail for falsely claiming that you are a veteran on that government document, according to the Wayne Independent. What is most disturbing are the numbers;

Since the beginning of the program, more than 130,000 products were issued with the veteran designation.

Baker said to date, 357 people were self-certified, but after an audit was completed, they were determined to not be qualified to get the veteran designation.

Statistically, that’s probably insignificant, but if you look at our Stolen Valor page, there are probably 300 people listed there from across the country, just imagine that there are more than that just in the State of Pennsylvania who are willing to falsify government documents to claim that which they don’t deserve. It tells me that there is a larger cultural issue at work here.

Basically, there is no shame. I got an email last night from a mother of one of our phonies who wants me take the post down about her son because he recently passed away – Nick Androsky’s body (MSG Soup Sandwich) wasn’t even at room temperature when his family was pleading with me to take the post down last year. They come to me when their lying-ass sons die, but they never thought to make their sons stop their own valor-stealing faggotry when they were alive.

You’ve got New Jersey politician John Spodofora, unashamedly admitting that he did nothing wrong because lying about his service wasn’t illegal. It is morally wrong, but it’s OK because it’s not illegal. Robin Mitchell says that pretending to be a transgendered SEAL is his right to free speech. Perennial dumbass Dallas Wittgenfeld did a happy dance when the Supreme Court overturned the 2005 Stolen Valor Act because his own thievery was declared legal, despite the fact that it was morally wrong.

The fact that there are 357 known liars willing to perpetrate a fraud on state government documents in Pennsylvania for a 10% discount at Lowe’s should cause alarm, but I’m sure that there are family members who will tell us “so what?” At this point, I’m willing to come out against these discounts just to end the faggotry. I actually want to end my hunt for valor thieves, but if there are 357 of them in every state, I don’t see any light at the end of that tunnel.

Maine has been requiring that anyone claiming a veteran status present a copy of their DD-214, in person. I think that that is a pretty good first step.

I’ve only known 2 people who I knew for certain were posers, and both stopped their fuckery when confronted by friends and neighbors about it.

Glad to see Pennsylvania stepping up to the plate, anyway.

ohio

Same in Ohio. Must present DD214 and sign affidavit to get any of the various veteran plates available.
Charge of false swearing for liars.

Dito for the Peoples Republic of Maryland. Must show DD-214 and sign affidavit. Though speaking from experiance the person at the counter didn’t look to hard at said DD-214 when I want through after my mil retirment so milage will vary on how successful those programs are.

NH required a DD-214 for veteran’s plates. VA required a DD-214 or orders for plates depicting awards of medals or badges.

When I went to register my pickup truck in Gulfport, Mississippi, I showed my DD-214, so I could get a “Bronze Star Medal” license plate.

The clerk said they were out of “Bronze Star Medal” license plates, but she could give me a “Silver Star Medal” license plate!

I explained that would get me in trouble, and requested she special order my “Bronze Star Medal” license plate from the state capital.

Now that I’m no longer living in Mississippi, I’ll have to replace that “Bronze Star Medal” license plate with a Utah – – – ?

Utah doesn’t offer the option of a “Bronze Star Medal” license plate, but instead, the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor are the only decorations acknowledged on license plates.

However, anybody who wants one can purchase a “United States Army” license plate, regardless of whether they served or not, as it is merely a Department of Motor Vehicles fundraiser.

Kentucky has both plates for vets depending on branch and also a generic support vets one that anyone can get. I haven’t seen it often. We offer more collegiate plates then military ones I think.

Flagwaver

I had to show my DD214 and NGB22 to get my Vet Designator here in Oregon.

John Robert Mallernee

If only we can get Utah to follow Pennsylvania’s example.

I remember years ago, when purchasing “United States Army” license plates in Utah, I started to show my DD-214, and to my astonishment, the clerk replied that my DD-214 wasn’t needed, because anybody who wants one can purchase a “United States Army” license plate, because its only purpose was as a fundraiser for the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Laws are like magic spells where the only people that they work on are those that believe in them.

It’s not just a stole valor problem…. How many times has participation in federal aid programs dropped significantly once income verification starts to take place?

Problem is there are way to many people who have absolutely no issue lying to get something

“Problem is there are way to many people who have absolutely no issue lying to get something.”

And there it is.

@ 2/17 AIR CAV:

Were you in the 101st Airborne at Camp Eagle?

“D” Troop, 2/17 Cavalry was our Quick Reaction Force, known as the “Blues”.

Shucks, you even talk the way we did (I was in the 501st Signal Battalion), saying that phrase, “There it is”.

2/17 Air Cav

No, John, I was not. Those who were I may credit with my use of many fine (and dated) expressions, though. I was at Fort Campbell soon after their return from VN.

SV thieves are like cockroaches.

The 300 or so that you see represent 1% of the rest of the cockroaches hidden in the woodwork.

But, Jonn, if you end your SV hunt, what will you do with your time?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

I hate to say it, but if he ends the hunt he’ll probably spend his retirement enjoying his life without dealing with litigation or stupid horseshit every day…

I am close to ending my 25 year involvement with the 6,000 kids in our youth sports program because I am tired of litigation. I’ve never lost a case, but we have actually had to discuss idiotic topics with the Mass Commission Against Discrimination based on a kid who was not caucasian violating a specific rule called out by the National Governing Body of our sport because MCAD thought we weren’t being culturally diverse enough in allowing the rule breaking.

When I requested paperwork in writing that any injury suffered by the child for wearing the object that they claimed was a cultural icon would be covered by the MCAD budget along with any litigation costs, MCAD suddenly had no interest in continuing the conversation. I asked them if they were so concerned about the diversity issue being recognized why would they only put up my money and not their own. They had no answer. I then mentioned we would continue the conversation through counsel and only through counsel. I’ve never heard from them again.

It’s great to win, but after a while you start thinking about all the fun stuff you could be doing instead of dealing with assholes every other day….

I can only imagine for Jonn it’s worse by a factor of at least a 100….

sgtfon

That’s why these days i don’t leave the house except to get beer and feed ( i can get both at the same place so) pretty soon i might just start making my own beer , then i can have them come to me with the feed…

I wonder if Pennsylvania will contact those 357 phoneys and ask for their plates back? Also, if they keep them when this legislation is all finalized, will they be subject to the penalty of the new law? For instance, if pulled over for speeding, will they be arrested for violation of it? I know that would require a flag on their license plate and license number but how hard is that to build and put into the DMV database? Thousands are flagged for many things all the time, in every state, this would be nothing to accomplish for 357. I hope they do. In fact I hope they are flagged. Since they are driving in violation of the law, when a LEO behind them runs their plates, which they often do, the Officer can stop them for it and arrest them.

justsayin

So who verifies that the DD214 is not a forgery in the 1st place?

isnala

Like I said milage may vary. 🙂

Before anyone whines about “faggotry”, language changes. “Fartknocker” wasn’t always a generic insult. “Faggot” is the new “blackguard”. Accept it, respect it.

Pinto Nag

The discounts and freebies are only part of this, and I think, a small part. The motivation is the respect, admiration and attention our veterans get in public. The phonies want the handshake, the pat on the back, the ‘thank you for your service,’ that they neither earned nor deserve.

Jordan Rott

Sadly, veterans license won’t stop valor thieves from putting desert storm CIB with two stars and purple heart stickers on their vehicles. It will never stop, no matter what laws get put into place. When I’m 60 years old all my generation is going to be just as bad as the Vietnam Vets claiming they earned Silver Stars and Purple Hearts and shit in Iraq and Afghanistan. As long as websites like yours exist though John, at least there is some deterrent to the valor thieves. Because, if they get legally in trouble (which we all know rarely ever happens), no one except the police probably will really ever know about it, so all of their pats on the backs and shit they don’t deserve will just keep coming. But, when they are on a website like this, a quick Google name search and everyone knows about it (which is much more likely to stop those pat on the backs and undeserved recognition and rewards). Also, the best part (like with Bernath) sometimes we get to see how butthurt they get about getting called out on their lies, which IMO is better then any legal punishment could render onto them.
