Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was the only holiday that I could count on being some sort of day off while I was in the Army. For some reason I was always working, on duty, or in the field the rest of the year. Well, I said “some sort of day off” because I was always in the mess hall in my blues serving the troops. probably because I was one of the few who had blues.
Thankful? I’m thankful that my wife hasn’t abandoned me yet and I’m thankful for the 3,258,614 unique visitors that we’ve had so far this year who seem to like this thing I’ve created. I’m thankful that you’ve wasted almost 12,000 days worth of time here since January 1st.
So enjoy your day with your families, if you can, but remember that there are still troops deployed who won’t be with their families. I’m thankful that they stepped into the breech for me.
The picture was provide by MCPO who will be having turkey sandwiches tomorrow.

Jonn,
To you and yours…and lest we forget, those who are not with families. Thankful for so many things, not the least of which is TAH. You rock as do many of the folks who come here and write. Best to you and maybe tomorrow, I’ll get to have a cigar! 🙂
Well, I am thankful to be back in the USA even if it is sitting on a plane in “destination Bangor, Maine!”
Welcome home, sir!
And Happy Thanksgiving to Jon and all of Planet TAH!
As usual, Sergeants set the standard. Ditto! 🙂
Welcome Home, LT!
Nice, LT! One more item to add to the list of things for which I am grateful today.
Happy Thanksgiving, All.
Good to see you’re back on US soil, Teniente.
Que acompañe en casa – familia – pronto. Hopefully by the time you get a chance to read this.
Welcome home.
WELCOME HOME! Happy HAPPY Thanksgiving…..
Welcome home LT! As OWB has stated you have given us another reason to be thankful.
If there’s a fat, stupid looking rent-a-cop trolling around in the Bangor airport, please feel free to kick his ass. Flying back from Kuwait 20 plus years ago and landing at midnight, he really busted the chops of me and some of my troops. Before my CO pulled me away, I told him if I every came back I’d kick his ass. Why I didn’t go to jail that night I’ll never know.
So there’s my “thankful” story about Bangor Maine (ha!).
Enjoy some turkey LT – you’ve earned it.
Glad to see you are finally stateside LT!!
The Chow spread at Niagra DFAC was pretty decent…even had pumpkin soup.
On a brighter note…I was informed today that I will not be extended until next spring….I get to leave Kandahar on 9 Dec and should be home NLT 15 Dec….have a cold one for me LT.
Happy thanksgiving to all here at TAH, and especially to those serving and away from home.
God Bless.
You must have moved his cheese.
LT welcome home!
Welcome back to the world, M1LT.
Glad that you’re back here in good condition.
Welcome home M1LT!
And a Very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
WELCOME HOME, LT! Are they feeding you real food and letting you enjoy a real adult beverage or two?
Welcome home!
Welcome home, LT. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Welcome Home LT Sir!!! Welcome Home! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Welcome home, Ell Tee!
Hopefully you have power there.
Gobble Gobble to the MMFIC and The Cadre.Hope it is great for all.
Thank you to John and the TAH staff for taking charge of this circus. 😀
Thanks 1 lt Mustang, welcome home.
Most imortant, Thanks to all the men and women eating thanksgiving in a DFAC today. We miss you and can’t wait for you to come home.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all!
I can remember standing in line feeding Soldiers while I was in Dress Blues. And I can also remember having nowhere to go so a handful of us getting together and making it happen. I used to tell a few Frat boys I knew in school years later that they had no clue of brotherhood. Keep in mind, these were good guy but I have yet to see a frat that matches up to a tight platoon and/or company.
I miss those days.
Hope everyone is well and were they wish to be this Holiday Season. You to, 1LT – Welcome Back!
Oh, and I almost forgot. How silly of me. This would not be a Green Thumb post unless I made a Phildo or APL comment!
Phil Monkress, the CEO of All-Points Logistics, is ball-working valor, heritage and LEO theif!
My best to everyone and enjoy the day.
To One and All of you, have a Happy Thanksgiving holiday, goof off while you can and enjoy it.
I am thankful that we’ve just gotten power back. I am also thankful that I added the extra insulation in the attic and crawl space last year, as it came in damned handy last night. It was cold, but tolerable, and none of the pipes froze. So there’s that.
To all who made it back stateside for the Holiday, and for longer in some cases, it’s good to have you here on native soil. Thanks for standing the watch, wherever that might be.
May God Bless us one and all.
30 percent of my town out. 140,000 customers still without power in NH, down from a peak of 180,000.
Still don’t see power back before Monday here. Line and tree crews just rolling in.
And my frigging generator wouldn’t start last night, so after digging out, I was on a holy quest for a new generator. Finally found one about two hours ago.
I’m thankful for at least having heat, water, the microwave, and a few lights.
Dinner consisted of a Walmart sandwich and chips. And damned if it didn’t taste really good after the day the gf and I had.
Jonn,
Like you, I found myself doing the same. Over 2/3 of my career was spent as a Chief, Senior or Master.
From my family to you, your lovely wife and yours … Happy Thanksgiving.
Note: The turkey pictured above was successfully thawed. There is a slight red ring around the bath tub now. It is being prepared by my son. His first BIRD OP.
I plan on weighing in today abit and commenting between BIRD OP, clearing the 14 inches of snow and drinking.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and keep our war fighters in your prayers today!
Pool: Who is visiting the troops this year for Thanksgiving?
Prize: 2 years lease on prime commercial real estate in Ferguson!
My best time was being allowed to serve the line at the main Baghram DFAC to my command and my CSM shoving the turkey and I covered down on the mash potatoes and gravy. I’m glad we all made it back, but give extra thanks to my team members who were medevaced and have kept a great attitude even with their sever wounds. Your right the teamwork and brotherhood is unmatched anywhere else. It is what I really miss.( and am thankful for)
Happy Thanksgiving. Great site, keep up the good work.
Happy Thanksgiving TAH family….
I wish you all a very festive and safe day with your family and friends.
To all the Troops still deployed and away from your families. I pray the gods to keep you safe and return you home soon.
Happy Thanksgiving to Jonn and all the rest here at TAH! However you celebrate it, enjoy it! I’m thankful that so many have volunteered to sacrifice so much to keep the hordes at bay, especially those who have to spend the day 10,000 miles from their families. You will all be in our prayers.
My family being the melting pot of marriages that it is, we’ll be setting the table with Irish, Cambodian, Filipino, Mexican, and Vietnamese trimmings at various points during the day. Nothing like turkey, ham, potatoes, pho, lumpia, and tamales for an all-American Thanksgiving dinner!
Cool!
Sounds delicious.
Next year we’re going even more traditional, with a Venison roast, Salmon fillets, carrots, potatoes, turnips, etc.
What about the haggis?
No.
Organ meat of any type is NEVER on the menu at Chez AW1 Tim’s. Evah.
I may be poor, but I’ve never been THAT poor. 🙂
Sounds good to me! Here in Vegas, there used to be a Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon that had Imperial Rolls that were the absolute BOMB! Best Asian style rolls I’ve ever eaten in my 62 orbits of the sun, bar none.
So pig out, Brother!
Gene Simmons and his tongue almost made the female Today show host faint during the Kiss parade act.
I was TV gold.
Saw that too. Funny how when we were kids the phrase “not in my house young man!” was shouted by many a parent.
My, how things have changed. I’ve rocked to KISS what seems like forever and I still managed to become a somewhat productive citizen.
Al Roker at NBC just gave big shoot out to all military …
Happy Thanksgiving to the TAH family.
And to all the posers and embellishers, GFY.
Over.
…..and OUT.
What he said.
What SHE said.
This public service announcement brought to you by BC.

well hell. just delete that one! sorry
Still works if you copy/paste the whole thing as a URL.
Multiply that GFY by say 1000 or more give or take one or two!
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
A hearty Thank You to all our deployed service members.
I’d feel funny if I wasn’t working on a holiday. Heck, I’m in between midwatches right now. Just got up. Ahhhh!
I’m not so sure I’m grateful for my wife, but I am grateful she hasn’t taken me for every penny I have…yet.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Now to go check on how the Pecan pie is doing in the oven.
Happy Day-of-Giving-Thanks to all. Thanks for serving and making a difference, all you vets and AD.
To each member of my TAH family of brothers and sisters, I wish all of you and your families a joyous and blessed Thanksgiving Day. Though only on here do I know each of you, you all have my respect and honor. Among the many, many blessings I am thankful for this year as look back, is TAH and each of you. God bless and keep you all in the coming year.
Jonn, a special thank you for TAH and all the work and long hours you invest in this blog and us. Happy Thanksgiving Jonn, to you and yours.
We had a really good spread over here in the HOA (no, not Home Owner’s Association), the galley really did a great job (No DFAC when the Navy’s running the show). Even got to have some after dinner cocktails.
Hope everyone back home is having a great day, congrats on getting back home Mustang1LT.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all the fine People of TAH!
Dinner was outstanding. Watching “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” on TCM with family now!
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am truly thankful for my family and loved ones at home, and my brothers and sisters here.
I fixed far too much food, so it’s leftovers for the rest of the year. Mikey got turkey morsels w/gravy (FF, not my food) and is now sacked out in the rocker under a blanket. He does snore. I’m stuffed to the gills myself. No room for pie or cookies.
I’m grateful for small things like the furnace needing only a new thermostat, the quiet neighborhood I live in, the nearness of hiking trails, the serious drop in the cost of gas (which may go further), and time to enjoy it all.
My belly hurts!
