Gaza violence to spill over into Chicago…but who would notice?

The Chicago Tribune reports that leaflets were put on the windshields of cars in Chicago threatening retaliation for the violence in Gaza;

According to residents in the area, the leaflets made threats to Jewish people in connection with the conflict in Gaza which began on July 8. The leaflets threaten violence if Israel does not pull out of Gaza, according to residents and police.

The war has left scores of Palestinians as well as more than a dozen Israeli soldiers dead.

I’m interested to know what possible connection there could be between Chicago and Israeli defense measures. Of course, there are riots in the streets of Paris to protest Israel, too, according to the Christian Science Monitor;

A pro-Palestinian protest that had been banned by the French government proceeded anyway, leading to riots in the 18th arrondissement. They were followed the next day by clashes in the heavily Jewish Parisian suburb of Sarcelles known to some as “Little Jerusalem.” And these both come after clashes between pro-Palestinian marchers and riot police outside two Paris synagogues last weekend.

AFP news agency reported that the police used Flash-Ball rubber bullets against the demonstrators, who looted shops and torched vehicles.

A few hundred demonstrators had gathered earlier to condemn Israel‘s bombardment of Gaza, despite the police having banned both that rally and a rival pro-Israel rally that had been set to take place at the same time and place Sunday.

Security was tight, with riot police sealing off streets leading to the local synagogue.

A few dozen Jewish youths armed with iron bars and singing pro-Israel songs also guarded the site, a video posted on the site of the Jewish Defence League showed. One waved an Israeli flag.

According to CNN, 47 Chicagoans were shot this last weekend, five died from their wounds. Of course, that’s down from the two preceding weekends.
