Tahmooressi to remain in jail

Tahmooressi

Yesterday, Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi finally had his day in court in Mexico after being imprisoned for 102 days because, by his own account, he accidentally drove into Mexico with a few weapons and several boxes of ammunition. Yesterday, the judge ordered him back to his cell, according to Fox News;

Despite the judge’s ruling, Tahmooressi’s attorney, Fernando Benitez, told reporters that he was confident that the Marine’s case was on the right track. Benitez said that his client’s statement to the judge was “sound and made perfect sense,” and claimed that irregularities with Tahmooressi’s detention were grounds for dismissal of the case. The attorney said that his client was not provided with consular services for nearly eight hours after he was detained, nor did he have access to an adequate translator.

In addition, Benitez said that the order to search Tahmooressi’s vehicle was dated March 28, three days before the Marine crossed the border.

From the LA Times;

Some 74 members of U.S. Congress have called on the Obama administration to work with Mexican authorities to gain Tahmooressi’s release.

On the eve of Wednesday’s hearing, Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., wrote to the Mexican judge, Victor Octavio Luna Escobedo, reminding him that Tahmooressi is “a Marine Corps veteran who risked his life for his nation and his fellow Marines.”

Meanwhile, Mexico is facilitating the exodus of illegals into the United States from all over South and Central America (including their own citizens).

Yup.

Also more and more incursions by their military over our side of the boarder including shooting at our citizens.

Mexico is in full force Fuck You mode and nobody is holding them accountable. I wonder how far it’s going to go.

OWB

There is nothing about this deal which is not disgusting. But, the willful disregard by the administration is the most glaring. And disgusting. (Among other things.)

Still waiting for ALL of the details on this. Some reports indicate that he had been across the border numerous times before (at this particular one as well), had established a relationship with a chica in Mexico, and had over $100,000 in the bank. Sometimes things aren’t always as they seem. Let’s hope the truth eventually comes out.

At the very least, maybe Obama could trade 57,000 kids for his release….

Out.

The Mexicans have been saying this and trying to bolster their claims he was a gun runner…
According to the family it was a girlfriend in the US whose mother lived in mexico they had gone to visit.
Who am I going to believe? The mexican government and police that produced a search warrant for his vehicle dated 3 days before he even entered Mexico, or the family?
Like a lot of people I have had my doubts about things I have read about this, but honestly I am buying the story he took a wrong turn.

Nice to see some common sense instead of all the “HE’S INNOCENT” hysteria.

You should read the comments to the news stories about Sgt Tahmooressi on sites like Yahoo or Google News.

They are unbelievable. I stopped counting the comments that said he was running guns into Mexico, too bad so sad you do the crime you do the time, let him rot in jail… You get the idea.

The way this country is going depresses me to no end. I feel more and more every day that I was a real chump to devote 25 years to defending this country. A real chump.

James in Gulf Breeze

YOU ARE NOT A CHUMP. You did what George Washington started – defended this country against enemies… foreign for sure. That’s the problem with domestic enemies though – they are insidious… oozing their way in through the cracks until you end up with the piles of shit in our current admin.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

MC the people who matter understand your commit and salute you for it. The internet tards posting crap on a site from the safety of their mom’s basement while sitting in the dark in the underwear are not the people who matter.

Too many useful idiots and complete morons on this nation today to be certain, but we are reaching a tipping point. What happens then will be most interesting.

MustangCryppie: You’re not the chump. If more people had your honor, our country wouldn’t be the shithole it is today.

And it is time for us to go get our Marine back. Right f*cking now.

The Other Whitey

The Mexicans are saying that SGT Tahmooressi is lying, and the Glorious Leader backs them up. But they say a lot of things. Between the two, if they told me the sky was blue, I would go outside and check for myself.

He may be lying, but a Marine with an honorable service record has a lot more credibility than the notoriously corrupt Mexican judicial system. And more than the proven liars in and around the White House. So while I could be wrong, my money is on the wrong-turn story being true.

Club Manager

Until our country has leadership in Washington with the balls to take a stand, the border is going to remain open and crap like this will continue to happen. A boycott of Mexico may get their attention. If the government is not going to step up, it is time for a roar on social media.

Sparks

Mexico screws us over at every turn. Then, in this case, we get to see how they treat our citizens and largesse. If we needed a SEAL team and Rangers to take down the prison and rescue Tahmooressi, I say it’s a go.

Climb to Glory

I agree with you and Other Whitey. Mexico has no respect for our borders or our citizens. I’ve never seen a nation as powerful as ours get walked on by some pissant third world dump of a country. Respect is a two way street and they do not respect our sovereignty.

David

“some pissant third world dump” is wrong. It should read “every pissant third world dump.”

Just an Old Dog

The story is fishy on both sides. I have no doubt the Mexican Govt and local officials are looking to get paid off.
However, being near that exact same border area you know the scoop.
There have been several cases in recent history of people “accidently”crosing the border with weapons and getting locked up.
You know well ahead of time when you are ready to reach the border crossing and there is a last u turn prominently posted. There is also a HUGE sign that says “GUN ARE ILLEGAL IN MEXICO.
Just saying, I have been living here for 30 years, am married to a Mexican who had relative we visited tons of times on the other side. I also own several firearms that I used to go shooting with.
I never once crossed the border with so much as an expended casing in my car.
